I feel so bad for @Captain Kangaroo and @Dr Z and the other moderators who pay for ZN.o to exist. Thanks for continually putting up with this stuff. God bless you guys ?5 points

The 2019 recruiting class was so hard to follow and rightfully so. And this 2020 class does have one lingering wild card in Mikal Dawson. Let me just say, Deuce Deuce, if you're out there - bust your ass and qualify!! I am really bullish on this guy and want to see him play for the Zips. All we know is that he didn't qualify for this season. But at the same time he has welcomed new players to Akron on his twitter account and his twitter avatar still declares himself a proud Zip recruit. So I have to believe it's his scholarship to lose. https://twitter.com/_23Dawson?lang=e If Dawson qualifies, that would leave one scholarship left for the 2020 class since we just added point guard, Garvin Clarke. When you study Verbal Commits you will notice a concentration of offers at the Power Forward position. That would be nice. And as mentioned by Dirtyolcrowe, a blitz of offers has been unleashed over the last few days including a shooting guard, a few wings and our latest walk-on Forward, Enrique Freeman might be in the running for a scholarship according to VC. So maybe Dawson is not a lock? Or maybe at this point Groce will take the best player he can get regardless of position? Those of you who spend time around campus please report any recruit sightings. The early signing period is coming up (November 13 - 20). We should know more about this class soon enough. http://www.verbalcommits.com/schools/akron4 points

Appreciate the support for Dusty, I have avoided posting while he was on the team. We appreciate everything Akron has done for him. We are going to miss watching him play. He has been trying to play through Ocular Migraines triggered by hard hits. He has lost his vision a couple times during games & has tried medication & emergency medicine when there is vision loss. Outside of football he has no symptoms & he carries a 3.8 and is part of The University of Akron’s #11th ranked Financial program & will miss football but will be ok Thanks Zipnation3 points

Can we move this entire Bowden v. Arth conversation into the ‘beating a dead horse’ thread? Bowden isn’t coming back and Arth isn’t going anywhere at least for the rest of this season and we are still flogging away at the topic. In the meantime a major contributor to the team announced that he can no longer play for medical reasons and the thread got a whopping 5 responses. The thread for tomorrow’s game has barely been used. There are more important things happening. Please join the rest of us in real time!3 points

This may be a possibility. I had heard he was taking a class or classes at Stark Tech, so maybe that's his avenue to qualifying.3 points

Last I checked, UMASS got their first ever FBS win against a Terry Bowden led Akron.3 points

Brandon Biscoff St.V-M is still playing. I know for certain he plays on all kickoffs.2 points

I guess it is time to start this topic... probably the most important MAC league game of the year Western Michigan is quite good and they are at home last night, they traveled to Ann Arbor and got a win over the Big Ten Wolverines WMU is 1-0 in the league (a 3-1 win at West Vriginia) and they are 9-4 overall they are on 5 match winning streak their season 2-1 opening season loss at Butler 4-0 home win over Niagara 1-0 home overtime loss to DePaul 4-0 win at Green Bay 5-1 home win over Cincinnati 1-0 win at Michigan State 1-0 overtime loss at Virginia Virginia is 11-0-1 and ranked #1 in the country 4-3 home over time loss to Jesus "Chino" Perez and his Illinois Chicago teammates 1-0 win at Xavier 1-0 home win over Loyola Marymount (LMU was ranked 22 in the country at time of the match) 3-2 win at Oakland 3-1 win at W. Virginia 2-1 win at Michigan looks like video of Akron at WMU will be available on ESPN Plus1 point

Sad, we never got to see his complete potential, he owns several of the off season records at WR on the boards & if he participated in an NFL combine he would be a top 5 guy with 40, vertical & shuttle run1 point

Correct. I went with red for "red shirt". Also, each gold shade represents a different class.1 point

You make a solid point but only if we can throw dropping to D2 into this moan fest. Go zips!1 point

For the Zips look for Bubba Arslanian (Aurora) at LB & Eric Bentley (STVM) at DT. Jonah Morris (Hoban) & Dustin Burkhart (Coventry) are both injured. I think that's it. The rest of the local guys fizzled out ?1 point

Great if we aren't paying Bowden, we should be free to fire Arth, immediately!1 point

That's fair. I know I come across as die-hard-Bowden...I'm really not. I thought Bowden brought us a little fun out of a miserable siutation...but if we hadn't seen another winning season by the END of his contract, then I would have been okay seeing him leave. I just feel that there was/is way too much good will for this staff by virtue of them being new. I really, really, really don't want to see this team dismantled the way it was under Ianello again. I highly doubt there is another Terry Bowden sitting out there to come rescue us back to middling mediocrity instead of utter dumpster fire.1 point

No we are not....why can’t you get it through your head that just because we wanted to see a coaching regime that had given up on the season, the team, the school, and the few hundred left that attend games...that we are defenders or fans of the current staff. Mutually exclusive....look it up.1 point

Does anyone here really think that if we kept Bowden that this team would be good? We went 4-8 last year on a team that anyone with two eye balls could see had way more talent than this years one. One of those 4 wins came against an FCS opponent, which we didn't even play an FCS team this year. No, I'm not here to defend or make excuses for Arth. I wasn't thrilled with the hire myself. What I'm willing to say though is this team would suck regardless of who was coaching it as there is a clear lack of talent and depth on the roster. Considering Bowden offered ~75% of these guys scholarships a lot of the blame for the talent deficiency falls on him. Unless an unexpected win occurs this team is going to go 0-12. If you want to argue Bowden would have us at 3-9 that's fine, I'm not going to bother arguing with you. Either way both would be terrible seasons that I'd have no interest in watching. The Bowden blowhards around here talk so much about how the name was an asset for recruits, but every year we had a sub par MAC recruiting class. He had some early success in hitting on some transfers that helped mask some of his recruiting deficiencies, but then he quit hitting.1 point

They issued a statement and said both cars will be on track. This was for their 2nd car that they have run part time this year. The actually just announced they are fielding 2 full time cars next year with Ross Chastian. Ross is one of the hottest up and coming drivers. This is a pretty big get for Kaulig Racing. Ross has all the talent in the world and is supper aggressive. He is the kind of guy you love when he is on your team or hate him if he is not.1 point

I contend, and have for nearly a year, that anyone that watched the football game that took place at Infocision Stadium on November 17, 2018 would be ashamed to wear the University of Akron's colors due to the coaches literally not trying to extend the game as the Zips failed to find the end zone against a bottom 5 defense. Bad football is bad football is bad football, but when you QUIT on the team, and in turn the players don't play hard, or you know fall asleep on the bench, or let the team run onto the wrong side of the field, please see yourself out the door. Year 7. Shame on you. Shame on all of you. That's a big time loser mentality. I simply don’t understand the myopic nature of the other side of the argument. Folks, it really isn't difficult. In year 7, you should NEVER gain less than 100 yards of offense in a game against Eastern bleeping Michigan. And then follow that up with a big fat turd on senior day when the coaches, again, QUIT on the team. Specifically, quit on one of the most successful senior classes in the program's history. N O B O D Y I S S A Y I N G A R T H I S G O I N G T O B E T H E S A V I O R O F A K R O N F O O T B A L L I wish that team last year was mediocre, we might've seen them make a bowl game! Instead, in year 7 of a regime, the 2018 Akron Zips would have had a hard time covering a 7-point spread against a significantly less experienced and talented 2019 Akron Zips team. And, again, they quit against Bowling Green. I was cracking beers and doing a dance the day the quitter was let go by UA athletics, and I was tremendously skeptical of the impending coaching search and even perplexed by the hire. Specifically, I was worried at how perfect administration deemed the coach they hired. I simply didn't (and don't) really see where that excitement comes from. The off-the-field stuff looks improved and they're playing hard, but that's it so far. GO ZIPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wish I could be there Saturday!!!!!1 point

That's why we moved to Iowa. So much more to do here! ? Seriously, we may not have much, but we have plenty!1 point

Agreed. The problem is that your post lump equate being anti-Bowden with being pro-Arth. I was ready to see Bowden and his issues move along, but that doesn't mean I wholeheartedly support Arth. For me, that jury's still out.1 point

I don't think anyone on here got a vote on who would be the coach if Bowden got jettisoned. People's dissatisfaction with Bowden and the identity of his replacement are two entirely separate issues.1 point

Oh, good point. Tough to afford paying off Bowden and Arth. #firelarrywilliams1 point

That is such a blow to a great kid. He had a real shot at a solid track career in D1 but football was his passion....I wish him all the best....and I know we all do.1 point

Was talking to a an old friend the other day about her son. He was a HS football player at a suburban school here in Summit County. He was playing in an all-star game after his senior season and received a severe concussion. He was on "brain rest" for 3 weeks and had to change career paths. I wonder how long this game will last. It's such a meat grinder.1 point

Wow. How unfortunate. At least he can know that he went out on top as he had become a dominant wideout. God bless, Dusty! Forever a Zip!1 point

From the above Instagram post from Dustin “I’m so thankful for the game of football. The places it has taken me, the experiences I have been fortunate enough to be apart of and the people I have been able to meet. It has meant the most to me since I was eight years old. Unfortunately, I have been fighting an uphill battle with ocular migraine through trauma in the past few years of playing the game. It has reached the point where I will be medically disqualified from continuing my football career. The support I have received throughout my life has been truly amazing. I am so thankful for all of it. I will be transitioning into the next stage of my life with all of the tools and knowledge football has equipped me with. To all of my teammates and coaches from the past and the present, THANK YOU. It’s been one hell of a ride.“1 point

Then the people running The University of Akron are dumber than they already appear to be. You don't fire the most successful coach in Akron D-I history, with two years remaining on his contract when your university is in as dire a financial situation as it is. No wonder UA is a disaster the mindless are running the asylum.1 point

I believe what they call you is a fair weather fan. I think I can get you a discount on a nice Malone football hoodie if you will turn in your Zip gear.0 points

Awww man... I was thoroughly enjoying revisiting a schedule with VMI on it as our only win that year... You're no fun. And to think we're only halfway through the football season having this discussion, and we still have an entire basketball season to debate Groce vs. Dambrot. ?0 points

Looks like they did an offer blitz or VC. This was roster is anything but set....this is the most fluid i have ever seen at Akron0 points
