It sucks that we have such high-level teams...last year's team may have been our best ever...and we can't watch them in-person in consecutive MAC tourneys, nor the NCAA's. Caught Trimble's halftime interview last night. He said he was immediately contacted by Groce and staff when he entered the transfer portal and liked them. He then talked to players, and they all said they loved playing for the guy. This year's Zips team is definitely pulling for one-another. Great kids, talented and fun to watch. Unfortunately only on TV. ?2 points

Energy and ball movement. The zone can't keep up with the ball when it is passed around.2 points

I don't think you need to be some great talent evaluator to see that the players on the teams the Zips were playing the past two years were bigger, faster and more athletic. There were also instances where there was obvious bad technique by Zips players and play calls that were head scratchers and that bad technique and playcalling lies at the feet of the coaching staff. Here's hoping the players gaining experience helps things from a talent perspective and that experience in the coaching staff helps that side of things. 1 win in two years is a combination of factors that can't be traced to the single source many of you wish to foist blame upon. You don't get this bad from one from one thing. The tone of some of the posts on here seems to be that there's a hope that Arth continues to fail so that an "I told you so" can be exclaimed. Am I happy with Arth? Hell no, but there's no other opportunity available right now, he's not getting canned and the school's finances won't allow anything else, so I have to hope he succeeds.2 points

He made the decision to go with Freshman instead of transfers. When you have first and second year players all over the field...on the o-line...QB...secondary...D-line...and you're competing against programs with 22 and 23 year olds all over the field, you're going to be highly uncompetitive. Cards were stacked against him to start, with Bowden leaving the cupboard relatively bare...starting his first recruiting class after 85% of D-1 programs were completely done. University nimrods publicly stating they want to drop a division or two. Becoming a HC in an era where players can suddenly transfer whenever they please. #hisway will take 4 years to bear any real fruit. I hope we're at least competitive in MAC games next season. We need to get so much bigger, stronger, faster...2 points

I'm having a hard time figuring out who to root against ? - okay not really1 point

If this works out and becomes the new norm, the playoffs could be played in nice weather, and the College Cup could be played anywhere there was a reasonable bid.1 point

He's great. They should do all they can to keep him but eventually won't be able to. If there's a coach on campus that deserves big money it is him (maybe soccer).1 point

I feel Toledo is a pretty good. From what I've seen I'd say Toledo, Akron, and BG are the three best teams in the MAC this year. The MAC as a whole though is much weaker than it has been the past few years. Last years Akron team would have stream rolled this conference.1 point

Or Toledo benefitted from playing more games early on than the majority of other MAC schools, and that gap is closing as the rest of the MAC warms up with a more consistent schedule.1 point

In general I'm not in favor of expanding the NCAA tournament but I saw an interesting proposal on ESPN for an 80 team one. Both regular season and conference tournament champs would be guaranteed a slot and anyone who won both would get a bye. I'm all for allowing more participation by the overlooked teams.1 point

Well unfortunately we drew all of Toledo/WMU/Ball State. Bryant and BG are our two most surefire wins. Temple has had a ton of turnover and had a very bad year last season., they could be a game we pull off. We could also (and I expect) 1 or 2 upsets in MAC play. 2 wins worst case scenario, 5 wins best case scenario is was we are looking at I think.1 point

LCJ ended up being the only starter not to score in double digits. Who would have thought he'd only have nine and the team would have 86?1 point

Looks like Arth decided to bet on himself to turn things around instead of abandoning ship for the NFL. I sincerely hope he doesn't roll snake eyes!1 point

I don't think opponents have been announced for next year, but if our MAC West schedule is favorable, I could maybe see 5 wins. @Clemson (L) vs Temple (L) vs Bryant (W) @ OSU (L) vs OU (W) maybe? vs Kent (L) @ Miami (L) @ BG (W) maybe? vs Buffalo (L) 3 games vs MAC West NIU and EMU will be beatable again. Central is improving and I don't see us being competitive with Toledo/WMU/Ball State.1 point

No MAC Tourney. Regular season champ gets conference auto bid to NCAA Tourney per previous announcements, 2020 Men's College Cup Info (May 2021, Cary, NC)1 point

Good analysis. I share your concerns. Of course the fact that coach Kest's assistant got this job despite the program's severe decline from its MAC champion team is evidence enough that the resources simply aren't there for any upgrade that the university could provide. I have a level of confidence that they can become a little more competitive as the group matures and talent improves slightly -- Jackson has been a pretty good recruiter and recruiting has improved somewhat since the late Kest years. I'm a big fan of the women's game and will continue following and cheering on this team. Thanks for your support of the WBB team.1 point

Is that the Ypsilanti skyline on the back of EMU's jerseys? Top 10 most notable skylines of cities that begin with "Y". Prove me wrong.1 point

Watts, made 3rd team, Cochran, Riley had plenty of opportunity, coaches want to win, if the veteran guys don’t get it done they move to next man up, Bowden did a great job getting us respectable but got stagnant & was going backwards & the University moved on, please try and do the same1 point

Agreed. I think the way Groce has built the basketball program is a good example. The first year, with a very late start, he scrambled to get guys in the floor to keep things going in a positive directions. He went out and sought jucos and transfers that could get the program up and running. With each year, the focus seems to move more towards freshmen that can then grow up within the program. He's not abandoning jucos and transfers but now that the program is up and rolling there's not as much of a need to get guys to play now to keep things going. I'm certainly not for jumping into the transfer portal to take on other team's problem children but if you can get a talented kid who overshot for a P5 or a kid that wants to come home. In reality, he needs to improve the team's record, and fast, as the natives are getting restless.1 point

I watched this game at a bar in Daytona Beach with some friends. My then-fiancee (and now wife) decided to elope and get married. We ended up with a couple dozen Floridians rooting for the Zips at the end with us. Great memories.1 point

I like Arth. I think he is doing this the right way and am happy and relieved that he is staying with the Zips.1 point

Also why not let those who can produce a COVID vaccination card attend any athletic event, especially one outside and wearing masks to set a good example?1 point
-
That is disappointing.....Summit County probably won’t change anything until 2022. Why can’t you be outside with a mask? Family can’t even watch? That is ridiculous.1 point
