This was a disappointing year. We started off so well at the beginning - the Pitt game, the crowd and atmosphere at the Indiana game but then the Ohio State game happened and I don’t think Akron was ever the same. The only game I thought that they played well after that was vs Penn State but that was only in the first 30 minutes. Bowling Green was a blowout but we finished every chance we had in that game. Starting with the Michigan game it just seemed like the fire and excitement from the beginning of the year had evaporated. Losing vs NIU was excused because they were good but losing vs Western Michigan when the MAC tourney was on the line should have given pause. Tonight’s game was a microcosm of the entire season - start well (we started the season so well) but then poor execution and a mental mistake leads to a goal for SC (Ohio State / WMU) We fight back but can’t finish and they mercifully end the game. Thanks to our seniors for their efforts but to be honest - this might be one of the most disappointing senior classes ever. Championship Game as freshman and not even a win in the NCAA tourney after that. If you told me that when Akron was destroying MSU 5-1 in the national semifinal that they wouldn’t win another tourney game in those freshman at the time careers I would have told you that you were crazy. But here we are.5 points

I made my way all of the way through it. I did not feel shorted for the $3.75 the game actually cost me. One thing on display in this one that I actually like is this team's flexibility and ability of everyone to switch on defense. The post-game Groce radio interview was interesting. He talked about how the culture is now finally established especially on the defensive side. He spoke of how this is the deepest team they've had and how it will allow them to keep the pressure on all game. He also talked about KJ Walton and how when he first arrived and started out in June he was not the player they expected and how he sat him down and essentially told him that of he didn't buy in he wasn't going to play and how KJ took the conversation to heart, committed to the culture and has become an integral and valuable part of the rotation.4 points

Great football acumen. Would be a great recruiter in Western Pa. Might stay a while, with his family being so close. Great leadership skills. Would pique the interest of a lot of scorned football alumni. MACC QB. He's a home run if we could get him.3 points

I thought the same thing. One of the most enlightening Groce interviews since he's been here. Not surprised about KJ, considering he had Whitford in his ear for 3 years!!3 points

If you have half a brain cell, you would have tuned out Kato's dad once you discovered he was very, very serious about "Kato for Heisman" deep into Kato's career.2 points

Credit to them for traveling to here, playing in the cold on our field and notching the win to advance.2 points

I think it's very feasible to have a more difficult schedule, with one or two more pay day games at P5 schools and a couple other mid-majors in our shoes. However, I don't think this is the year for that.2 points

Sabhbh Edwards Murphy is on the team. She had ACL surgery during last year's season. She is waiting for her surgeon in Akron to give her the ok for contact drills. She participates already in non-contact portions of daily practices.2 points

We do. We pussyfoot around on the offensive end way too much.2 points

I think its pretty obvious why the schedule is the way it is this year. A lot of new faces and roles. The team may exceed expectations/gel quicker than expected and thats great. I don't enjoy the schedule, but understand the logic. BTW - KD was the one who said nobody wanted to play Akron.2 points

I've got so much emotion going into this game. For over two years now, all of the commentary about the MAC is "Kent State's the greatest! They score so many points! Sean Lewis is the best coach in the MAC!" Meanwhile, Akron has been an utter disgrace. Well, there's a new Sheriff in town. He goes by O-Rod. The energy he has pumped into this team and locker room is staggering, and I am fully expecting him to have the Zips fired up and ready for this game. To look at the football, there will likely be many points scored. At least there should be. I'm always concerned about Akron's abilities as we never really know what we're going to get, but offensively the potential is there. Defensively, I still have big time worries, and this is where Akron lost this game last year, and would likely lose it this year. It could be a shoot out. I really don't have a ton more to say. I want this one more than usual. With a loss, Kent is still in the title race, but I want to break them. Lewis loves rivalries and will have them ready to fight like no other, but I have all my hopes in the Zips to come out and play just as hard, looking to prove themselves in the college football world on Saturday. I want the wheel. The Zips want the wheel. I can't wait!!! GO ZIPS!!!!1 point

like a wishbone formation. I like it. The Zips need to do that.1 point

Zips gave up a combined total of 8 goals in their last 3 matches. 2 vs N.Ill , 4 vs W. Mich, 2 vs Santa Clara. IMHO, too many.1 point

Unless we are willing to make the same level of financial commitment as the school from Spokane, it doesn't matter who we schedule in the non-conference part of the season.1 point

terrible soccer for the most part, with a few exceptions, in their last 3 contests. Well dominating possession time , o,k , but finishing no. The BG game at home was beautiful finishing. Maybe the clue on how this could happen was the W. Mich match. They score, we tie, they score, we tie, until they bitter O.T. loss up there. Did the fact that the Zips got in despite not making their own tournament cause them to just assume that if they put in a 'good' effort it would result in a win???. THIS THE NCAA TOURNAMENT - ASSUME NOTHING. ASK THE LOUISVILLE CARDINALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 point

Sorry, but the kit is gold...not yellow. Definitely not brighter yellow than either the Force or the Crew...not even close to either of those.1 point

Soccer is a cruel game. A team can dominate but fail to capitalize. One bad touch can be the difference between winning and losing. This team simply did NOT have it this year. Time to regroup and squeeze every last dime out of that recruiting budget.1 point

You just cannot lose a first round home match against these guys1 point

Got deep into their end and just could not have a touch pass for a score. 9-0 in corners, but just could not get it done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So frustrating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. You never know , especially in soccer, but Kentucky will roll these guys.1 point

Nonsense. Akron outshot SC 17-3, 4-3 OG, 9-0 corner kicks, all while fouling less, 6-14.1 point

Tremendous credit to BG for going on the road to beat highly ranked Louisville Impressive win by Georgia State at Charlotte Akron showed tonight that it is not a top team in the MAC.1 point

Ouch. 4 MAC teams in the final 32, and Akron not one of them.1 point

Not the best effort to start that 2nd OT and it costs the Zips. We need an offensive threat next season.1 point

All of this is great ... but it is a bit of false advertising against the Wheelings and the Fordhams of the world ... Groce w/his B10 contacts should have this team playing more established teams. I just don't buy this 'nobody wants to play us crap' ... if that's the case, just line up 2-3 tournaments and play solid comp there. From what I've seen this Akron team is no worse than third best in the MAC over the course of the season, and built like a tournament team when the perimeter players are clicking. And that is as it should be every year going forward. Time for Groce to put the big boy pants on and schedule for success, instead of picking pansies every year. Good players/team want to be challenged. After the way they played against OSU, and to not have another game like that for a month is not a good formula in my book.1 point

Zips have dominated this match they deserve better than 1-11 point

Because Louisville had already beaten us to it. They both coached there at the same time. One of the reasons I lost a tremendous amount of respect for Louisville. Not that I ever had all that much to begin with.1 point

No point in watching, or playing, that game anyway. Mismatches like this are one of the reasons I stopped buying season tickets. There's usually one good pre MAC season home game worth going to IMO.1 point

Could you imagine trying to run the triple option behind this offensive line?1 point

Ok, I will try to lighten up, Francis. I just think that if you love OSU and were able to go to college, you should have gone to that school. I have worked with many people over the years who went to different schools, but when their alma mater played the Suckeyes, they would dress up in OSU gear. I had a very good friend who I graduated from the University of Akron with, asked if he could join me for a game. He met me in Lot 9 wearing Buckeye apparel. He got many negative comments and near threats over his outfit at the tailgate. I bought him an Akron Jersey to cover up his shirt. I just think your number 1 college love has to be your alma mater. It is for me and I am proud to be a graduate of the University of Akron. Speaking of triggers, there are many people on this forum who speak negatively toward Buffalo and Kent State. They are called many different names on this forum, which I think is worse than my Suckeye comments. Just look at the game threads, of which some are confusing. I hold no ill will toward these schools. I do not know any Akron graduates who root for Kent or Buffalo, unless maybe their spouse went there. I know several people who went to Kent, and I respect them. Thanks for allowing me to explain myself. However, after writing this post, I decided that I will not lighten up regarding the Suckeyes. Go Zips!!! Proud to be an University of Akron alumnus.1 point
