  1. I'm sure if you came up with $2mil to help renovate the JAR Charles could get your name on something. Zipmeister Arena has a nice ring to it!

  2. Here is a little trivia. Excuse me if it has already has been said. Coach Groce knows number #24 for Wright State very, very well. Tim Finke with the hair bun is the younger brother to one of Groce's players at Illinois, Michael Finke. Michael Finke was the true stretch 4, effective inside and beyond the arch. And the family was a class act and very involved with the program. Groce was also scouting Tim Finke before he was let go at Illinois.

  4. For all you Terry Pluto fans (Believe it or not, this is actually a really nice article.)

  5. Well, who do you think you are? Me? Seriously, I was surprised to get the call. My only financial interactions with Akron have been: 1) buying tickets to the Iowa State game, 2) paying in advance for an entire tailgate lot, and 3) winning the 50/50 raffle. Somehow this must make me score high in the algorithm.

  6. They also came in 2-6. They aren't as good as people thought they would be coming into the season.

  7. I'd have no interest in Akron have a 10k+ arena. Crowds look small enough in the the 5500 arena we have now.

  8. Calling the JAR a barn is both sacreligious and gracious. 😂

  10. The play-by-play guy on ESPN+ sounds like Ohio State's announcer, Paul Keels (the only good thing about the Suckeyes). Great voice. He and Jackie would be a nice pair instead of Reghi.

  12. The math would say it does not. There are a finite number of scholarships in D1. Some players exit college sports through retirement, going to a lower division or graduation. This has been the case forever. These open spots can be filled by high school kids or transfer portal kids. The transfer portal kids already were part of a scholarship group somewhere so their movement has no impact on the overall number. High school kids are still necessary to fill the remaining voids. Once the Covid super seniors move on, things will balance out again.

  13. Yeah, it's not the portal. It's the extra year of eligibility from COVID that is causing the blip in HS recruiting this year. It will return to normal in 2023.

  14. Walton needs removed, no?

  15. Urban Meyer is available 🤣🤣🤣

  16. The transfer portal shouldn't hurt HS numbers. Think about it. Player X from School A goes to school B. So school B fills a spot in lieu of recruiting, but now School A has an open spot they wouldn't have had. I think that's all to do with the super seniors coming back for their covid year.

  17. @Illini Zip Thank you for keeping this chart updated. As an aside, Groce isn’t utilizing Kalle enough to justify burning his redshirt, IMHO.

  19. Great win for the Zips tonight, I know a lot of us had plenty of doubts about this team’s ability to play away from the JAR. The defense traveled as it usually does, and the shooting made the trip as well. They could have shot better, but X and Trimble hitting those early ones had to take off quite a bit of pressure. Aziz has a long, long way to go, but he was fairly effective on offense tonight passing out of the double team, outside of maybe a turnover or two. He made some nice plays, and again played nice D. I’d like to see him keep on his feet on D though, he could get into foul trouble. Dawson has been fouling a lot too. I love his game, but he takes a poop-load of 3s for how good a shooter he is and he has recently been committing bad fouls. We need the bodies now and can’t afford too many of those. I’m glad we could play without Tribble too, hopefully whatever illness he’s battling isn’t too bad and doesn’t affect his game too much, he’s been in a groove. Overall, I was not impressed by Wright State. But the Zips will see their fair-share of teams like that come conference play, especially on the road where Groce teams have been known to struggle. He said on the post game that the goal is to be at least .500 playing away from home. The championship team was stellar away from the JAR and that’s what wins you championships. The team the year before couldn’t lose at the JAR but couldn’t win away from the JAR, and they wound up being pretty average. Still a ton of ball left to be played and a lot left to learn, but tonight was another good step. On to Radford.

  20. Thanks for that comment. I noticed that when they were shaking hands that Groce gave him a brief hug and I thought it was a weird because usually you see that when a player has an outstanding game and Finke did not play that exceptional.

  21. All of his staff so far are P5 guys... Maybe he wants to get P5 fans/atmosphere?

  22. Groce just said Tribble was out w/ “illness.” And he just said “impactful.” 💪💪😂

  23. Kalle got in there at the end. I thought he was a redshirt.

  24. Good win. I find it kind of hard to believe we were 3.5 underdogs. Probably would say this was our best overall team effort all season outside of the OSU game (d2 games don't count). Looks like we are starting to come together at the right time as we head into conference play.

  25. Well, a kid who left the Zips because he wasn't going to play is the best player in the Horizon.

  26. The Horizon is not good. Annoys me when I see Cleveland State get more coverage than us on the news.

  29. We need a nice, 8,000 seat arena across from Canal Park. All chair-back seats, no bleachers.

  30. Bad pass by Wynn leads to a transition 3, but Wynn’s had so little game PT he’s gotta be rusty.

  32. How can one not love Mike Dawson? He just does a little of everything for the team.

  33. I love seeing Evan Wilson being actively into the game on the bench. Really good "teamism" as Groce would say
