CSU 2-4 AKR FT Some regulars disappointed, but I choose to focus on the players who excelled. Jonas Buechte continues where he left off at Holding MF. He is quietly among the best players on the team, winning balls, cutting out passes, disrupting opposition offence, starting Zips offence. CB is probably his best position, but he is our best option at HMF. Those who do not recognize his contribution are not paying attention. Newcomer Joel Sangwa is the real deal at Centre Back. He organizes the Defense well. He anticipates the attack well. He is a judicious and effective tackler. Good speed. Good in the air. Good size. His passing could improve. Dyson Clapier continues to improve right before our eyes. Though not yet our best player, he is arguably the most talented. In this victory he took another developmental step toward becoming a dominant offensive force. Dice just does things most players cannot do, things most do not even try. Consistency throughout the match is his struggle. Oh yeah, he scored 3 goals. ACFC 0-7 AKR FT Full disclosure: I left midway through 2nd half. Props to Akron City for providing cannon fodder for Zips' bench - after existing for 2 whole weeks. Levi Stephens is speedy, light on his feet and decisive. He has been coached very well. His passing shows real purpose and precision. Levi scored on a corner kick header and nearly scored on another just like it. But his well-timed overlapping runs and accurate crosses are what impressed most. I am not sure who will lose playing time, but Levi will see significant first team PT soon. Stefan Dobrijevic is a definite Forward through and through. He plays well with back to the goal, receiving all manner of balls efficiently. He also displayed a variety of shooting skills. Not at all afraid to shoot. Oh yeah, I understand that he scored 3 goals, though I did not see them all. Stefan will also get minutes with first team very soon. I would be remiss in not mentioning Josh Hallenberger. He showed flashes of brilliance in both matches. I need to see more of him.5 points

I was not going to post anything but since I saw this topic active again, I watched KD's presser after losing 16 in a row and you have to admire him for not ducking any questions and not making any excuses. He indicated that he has never gone through this type of season before and he talked to other coaches who have and they gave him advice on trying to look for small victories even during a losing season. He indicated that currently his team has so little height that they resemble a high school team and they cannot do anything down low and that they are playing frosh who make frosh mistakes. I also heard the radio program where Freeman and Ali spoke very admirably about Groce's passion for basketball. Akron has been fortunate to have 2 coaches in the past 20 years that have been passionate about the game and great coaches.4 points

The MAC office needs to step in and talk to the members about scheduling out of conference. Maybe the MAC needs to pair up with a similar conference or few similar conferences for a scheduling arrangement or “conference challenge” type thing. The Zips seem to do well with the neutral floor tournaments they get into but also seem to play a lot of teams in the bottom of Division 1 (this year I do like that they got games at Ohio State and Wright State)... I am not saying I want them to schedule an impossible gauntlet, just instead of teams ranked 335 out of 358, why not teams ranked 260 and more home and home contracts that go for 2-4 years? This is also exactly why they need to bring back a Bracketbusters type of event.4 points

You're right. We should cancel everyone and everything with a 'Z' in their name. It's a good thing Zion Williamson has basically already taken himself out of the NBA. Oh, I'm sorry, Ion Williamson. Let's Go Ips! #CancelTheZ4 points

Won't affect his playing time at all. It's how they do things at PCCC.3 points

So we get rid of the "Z." If Putin starts placing script Akron on his tanks, howitzers and goon squad T shirts, then what do we do?2 points

I'm sure the folks at Oregon Live will be disappointed; there job is to convey ringing endorsements for terminated football staff. My takeaway was that we got a guy with tons of D1 experience.2 points

If anyone finds cheap tourney ticket deals, post them here. I know...Verizon in Macedonia...🙃 (I actually did get free tickets there a few years back).2 points

We had a good spring start against Cleveland State. Jared is high on this team. Another reason to be excited is that more defensive help may coming from Europe over the summer.2 points

Not at all the case. Match was very competitive, often contentious, throughout. There was even a bench-clearing shoving fiesta at the end. This victory matters in the seeding of this tournament in April. There are stakes. The lack of SID coverage is THEIR fault, not the team’s, not the fans’. You would have been correct in any previous season, but not now. College Soccer is evolving, with or without the NCAA. Too bad our SID is not clued in.2 points

6'4" 215 lbs dual threat QB out of Choctaw, OK. Nice offer list including VaTech & Tulsa.2 points

And while Tricia Cullop certainly deserved coach of the year, I hope the Jackson got a few votes because predicted to finish last to getting the third seed is a pretty impressive job.1 point

I hate the script Akron logo so much I'd probably join the Ukrainian resistance just to fire RPGs at it.1 point

Pam Arnold. And it’s the worst player photo ever. It’s like they scanned a 1985 pic from the Beacon and blew it up. Check it out the next time you’re in the JAR.1 point

What a load of crap that quote is. Dambrot is not adverse to questionable grades/ethics. His best team at Akron included Tree, Harney, and Abreu. I can appreciate wanting to run a cleaner program that represents the name on the front of the jersey well, but this is a cop out quote. He even said this is the best team he's had yet, so I'm not sure where the "a lot of coaches will BS you" call out is justified. Duquesne's fan forum is seeing what we saw for years. Dog house coaching style, not a very creative offense, one-dimensional defense, lack of adjustments, etc. They're averaging 64.8 ppg - I don't remember averaging much more than that when he was at Akron. The game has passed Dambrot by and he's struggling to gain any traction to keep up. I can't imagine his system is very fun to play in, and with the Transfer Portal open, guys are no longer "trapped". All of his best players have left. That's not a grades/ethics issue; that's a coaching/system issue. He cashed in on his success at Akron and is making $1M a year to be exposed as a slightly-above-average basketball coach that rode the coattails of LeBron for as long as he could. I'm very thankful for the level at which he raised Akron's program to, but he's not a very good basketball coach; just a slightly above average one.1 point

In lieu of the Russian atrocities in Ukraine I think you have a good idea, but only for a limited time. For 30 days we should cancel the letter 'Z'. Beyond that I give it _ero chance of succeeding.1 point

Has anyone talked to Coach JoMo about his views on Akron’s scheduling in the future. Does he like a FCS opponent every year? How many “pay day” games would be ideal? Will there be an emphasis on getting home and home series’ with other Group of Five programs? Does he think long cross country road trips build team chemistry or would he prefer a more regional approach? How possible does he think it would be to get Power Five schools to regularly visit InfoCision?1 point

My understanding is that originally the quarterfinals were scheduled to be played on Wednesday, but several Horizon League schools complained that they needed an extra day to book rooms for the weekend at the Indy Motel 8.1 point

Here's a good quote from an article I read about KD a couple of weeks ago- “I still think I did the right things by morals and ethics standards, but I still hurt myself, I hurt our school and I hurt our team,” he said. “We had too much bullshit going on and I had enough. We got a bunch of good guys for the most part and we’re not good, so maybe there is an inverse relationship between that GPA and your win-loss record. A lot of coaches will BS you, but I think I overcorrected, probably overreacted.” To summarize KD's transfer pain: Sincere Carry- PCCC- 18.7 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 4.8 apg Tavian Dunn-Martin- FGCU- 21.1 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 6.1 apg Lamar Norman Jr.- WMU- 19.8 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 2 apg Marcus Weathers- SMU- 12.5 ppg, 7.4 rpg,, 1.8 apg1 point

I'm not sure Oregon State's opinion should hold much weight in the college football world. Can't remember the last time they were relevant. The article even says Tibesar came into one of the worst defensive rosters in the FBS, and it did improve during his first couple of years. I'd imagine COVID complicated and killed momentum for 2020 & 2021. Moorhead hung 38 on Tibesar's replacement, FWIW.1 point

This is why not scheduling those cupcakes OOC is such a big deal. How much of this is the West being exposed by having to play the East teams more with no divisions?1 point

The original Zipper overshoe was a product of BF Goodrich. I think the university is reluctant to support the Zipper name because of the opportunity to it be misused which was the reason the name was shortened to Zips.1 point
