  1. Same here, and for me, at least as important, he just seems to be a good guy. I haven't had a lot of interaction with him, but in what little I have, coupled with the way he carries himself, I have come away with the impression that he's just a solid salt of the earth guy you could have a beer with.

  2. Latest I heard was UA will hold it on the soccer field, like they did in 2004. Just kidding. 😉

  3. So the spring game is 100% in the field house? If this is the case, I probably won't drive in for it. With growing hype and a temp in the 60s the decision to host the game indoors with minimal-bad seating makes negative sense to me.

  4. Some of their fans were unhappy that they made the switch, but apparently the Vols were looking to add a sure W to their schedule. Given what has been happening to the Zips roster, I wonder how they are feeling about that now?

  5. Coach JoeMo is succeeding above and beyond my expectations for what type of players he'd be able to bring in to Akron in his first year. I thought we'd have to sputter through a couple of years to get some traction before even dreaming of attracting talent like this. I mean, we've been the worst team in college football for three years now. What he's doing is truly amazing to me. Imagine what JoeMo could do here if we actually develop a winning culture/reputation. I'd still like to see us bring in a QB who is able to give Irons some competition.

  6. This. Total miss to not utilize the Info. The Fieldhouse, while a nice facility, is garbage for viewership.

  7. So our WRs are LSU, Pitt, and Penn State. Our TEs are Bama & WVU. RBs are Kansas State & Minnesota. OL has Penn State and Houston (not sure if I'm missing anyone). So on offense, the QB is the only non P5 position group, and the guy held his own against a P5 opponent with FCS talent around him. Sheesh.

  8. Think it’ll be a nice one too. Not too often he sends out these types of tweets for commits (based on our small sample size).

  10. Creating a scholarship chart thread at the request of a few. Attaching what we have to date. As always, there are some assumptions that are going to be made. This currently includes: Each starting K, PK, and LS, regardless of who they are, have a scholarship. Assumes the following players who haven't been announced, either in the formal university announcement process or on social media as a walk-on earning one, but have played substantially or even started are on scholarship: Tyson Durant, Andrew Behm, and Alex Robarge. The current list includes includes the following new members: 2022 announced signees (linked here), and the additional portal commitments we've had since then. I didn't include Keylen Davis for now as he is the only freshman signee not listed on the roster. I also don't think we have any early enrollees from the freshman considering we didn't sign anyone until the Feb signing day and the semester would have started in January. So him potentially not being listed for that reason shouldn't be the case. Took some liberty in assigning the class of last year's freshman as either red-shirt or not based on PT I recall them getting. I think there will be a lot of updates to the classes on the online roster between now and the season. Right now, the list shows exactly 85 scholarships with 24 new players added. This means we can add up to 8 more as we should or will be at the 32 limit threshold. The typical annual threshold is 25, but beginning with 2022, the NCAA has allowed that number to increase by 1 for each player who voluntarily enters the portal, up to 32 total. The overall scholarship limit is back down to 85 as far as I know, so to add any new players, we would need some to leave...which will undoubtedly happen at the conclusion of spring ball. Maintaining this is a group effort. I have basically no inside info, so if there is somebody on or not on scholly that you're aware of and the list doesn't reflect it, please let me know. 11. Yeesh....yeah, lot of good things happening in Athletics since Mr. Guthrie came aboard, but this is a pretty big disappointment and miss. Looking forward to the analysis from those on the board that are attending.

  12. I will be tailgating prior to the game. Not sure if, since the game is indoors, that Lot 8 or 10 won't be a better choice.

  13. This was my first thought and what I'm going to continue to tell myself, no matter if true or not.

  14. I'd imagine the coaching staff was the first "Oh 💩" moment for the Vols. The roster now just adds to that. Army is undoubtedtly less talented than our current roster, as they are most rosters they face, but what they typically have over most schools is their coaching staff and discipline. That gap is largely narrowed vs our current staff, if not completely reversed. So now Tennessee is taking on a more talented, and potentially more disciplined team. That's a recipe for an upset or sphincter-tightening W.

  15. Especially Groce's assistants. Dustin & Rob coach their butts off during games. It's fun to watch.

  16. Maybe he really doesn't like the condition of that turf lol.

  17. Yeah, I agree with everyone. Good reason sure, but the fact its in the Fieldhouse is unfortunate. With the excitement building around this team and the first look being the Spring Game, it's kind of a damper honestly. Ah well.

  18. There's a lacrosse game in the Info. Which, maybe they could have scheduled the game for last Saturday. But maybe that timing didn't work out with Joe's plans.

  19. Don't disagree with any of you and honestly I'm reconsidering going as well, but I would have to imagine there is a reason for it not being in the stadium other than "just because".

  20. What I like the most is the increased funding assistants. Program success is way more than the head coach. Also, I like a coach dedicated to physical fitness and good to see money for that position. Looking at the Zips, I think their physical fitness could be better.

  21. It’s incredible what JoeMo is doing. Jim Mora is doing something similar at UCONN. Don Brown at UMASS has probably brought in the least amount of talent as far as new head coaches go for 2022. I suspect another QB will be brought in before it’s all said and done. Players are piling into the portal this month as spring ball wraps up across college football.

  23. Athletics is the #1 marketing tool for any DI university outside of Ivy League schools. The rest of the school benefits from strong athletic programs.

  24. Couldn't agree more. Let's add T & F's coach Dennis Mitchell to that group. He has raised the program to the top 25 level in both men and women despite not having the middle distance runners men's cross country usually brings along with it. I normally would also add swim's coach Brian Peresie to the list, but he has been shopping his resume around. He wants to leave for bigger rather than build to bigger.

  25. I'd hope that guys like Groce and Moorhead already had their "taste" of big-time programs and are happy trying to build up a program like Akron instead. Not that they don't deserve another shot, but it seems like it would be way less stressful. But that's just me talking and obviously I'm biased.

  26. Excellent news; JG is one of my favorite coaches, at any level, of any sport. I appreciate the man's coaching philosophy.

  27. Thats awesome news. Groce giving up money would make it seem like he isn't going to jump up the first chance he can, which is obviously good news for us.

  28. Based on those tweets, it sounds like Groce is content here and plans to keep building our program for many years to come!

  29. On a quick run through of the films, I would love to get Kilbane, Moore Jr., Cook and Marshall. The tape on Moore is off the charts. As long as grades aren't an issue, he could anchor our line for 4 years starting with his freshman year.
