  1. This will be my 53rd year as a season ticket holder. I consider my two club seats a bargain. At $500 each I get a parking pass and great club amenities for 5 games. By comparison, I attended a Cavs game recently where a lower level seat went for the same price for one game! Zips athletic events are a bargain.

  2. While possible, I don't see that as likely. And while this move has been bad PR in a post's Facebook comments, I think there is a fairly decent understanding from the people that matter, whether they agree with the move or not. One thing has stuck out through this whole thing--a former player and her family vocally being anti-Jackson, which is not something we have seen anywhere. Full disclosure on my end--while I am disappointed coach Jackson hasn't been able to build Akron like I believe she was capable, and I do in fact support the decision to move in a different direction, to suggest anything other than running a good and clean program and environment would go against anything I have ever heard. That's not to see it's impossible that something not so great happened, I just find it extremely unlikely. The player whose family I have seen openly criticize Jackson transferred out after last year and wound up leaving the team she ended up going to. I hesitate to name names, but it's pretty obvious who it is. No player is named in this "investigation," but I would be shocked if it wasn't from this player. Stupid stuff. And shame on the ABJ for finally covering the Jackson tenure and giving it a bad look.

  3. Aziz Bandaogo has been named WAC Defensive Player of the Year, WAC Newcomer of the Year and First Team All-WAC. I really feel like if the Zips are truly missing any pieces this would be the primary one. A 6’11” or 7’ athletic rim protector that alters nearly every inside shot by the opponent.

  4. I like this post from over there- First name that comes to my mind is John Groce. I know he’s at Akron, but have always been impressed by him and his teams. We need someone like him that has that fire in his belly. A proven winner that can recruit and gets the most out of his team.

  5. This board has given Sincere Carry a lot of criticism this year but he clearly outplayed X yesterday and his defense was exemplary. Also, I did not see him dancing a great deal and just a little mugging for the camera. The sportsmanship on the court was very good for both teams and I would be upset over the fathom call at the end of the game so I will give the Kent coach a pass on the T. I am hoping the 2 teams meet in Cleveland for round 3 between 2 very good guards and hope that X gets the better of him the next game.

  6. Good for him - heck of an entrance into the WAC. The key piece we're missing is on our bench recovering from an injury - Mikal Dawson being his name. Aziz would've been a nice piece, but this exact team - minus Mikal - went on a massive run to finish the season last year. During the time of that run, Aziz's playing time dwindled to almost nothing. I wish we had both Aziz and Mikal, but if I had to choose, I'd take Mikal. Cannot understate how big of a loss he is.

  7. I guess it really is a KD situation all over again. Bigger fans of the coach than the program. Oh well.

  8. I’m not sure I completely follow some of the logic here. Through the powers of deduction we can all guess it’s Brewer. She was so good that when she transferred to Toledo she ran into the same issues she found herself in here. She ended up quitting. Coach Jackson coached the entire season and nothing was found in the investigation and it was closed. The only coach with a consistent winning record was non renewed. She was also the lowest paid coach in the MAC. As a fan that wants to be back year after year, I still want to know: WHAT IS THE NEW DIRECTION? Judging by this programs history I don’t see them spending more money to build a better program. My wife and I didn’t buy season tickets because this is a dynasty type league. We aren’t USC or Stanford. We bought tickets for the entertainment value. Put a competitive team on the floor. Win more than you don’t. Build a program that can compete year after year. Again, we had that. I don’t see this being a decision to spend more. I don’t see a good team for several years. There are too many options for the MAC and these young ladies to choose from than to be part of a rebuilding program with no consistency at any level at the University. I’ll go watch them in Cleveland. But until they prove me wrong this will be our last year as season ticket holders.

  9. Wasel has everything needed to become the next great MAC QB.

  10. Not to go all conspiracy theorist on this, but, could something from the Athletic Department been "leaked" to George to deflect from all the bad PR it got by "not renewing" MJ?

  11. Bleachers are free and were open every time I went last year. The MAC isn't doing Saturday doubleheaders this year, just 3 game series, one each on Friday, through Sunday.

  12. The bleachers have either been free (or roped off during COVID 🙄) every time I've been to a game.

  15. Huger has been let go by BG. Not a big surprise, but it’s sad to see him to. He truly is a great guy, and I was fortunate to speak with him a few times. Always cordial. Perhaps to a fault, as he never got a lot out of those teams. He’ll make a great associate HC somewhere when he wants to return to the game.

  16. Antonio Smith Hudl Film. As things stand, I’d say we have a good chance at landing Smith.

  18. My biggest hopes for the tournament lie in the fact that coaching makes a big difference this time of year and the Zips have the best head coach in the MAC.

  19. I've seen enough Kent driving baseline and bailing to the cutter down the lane to the basket.

  21. I agree it's asking a lot to expect Sammy to repeat Tuesday night's performance night-in-night-out. But he seemed to play with an entirely different sense of urgency on both sides of the floor. It almost seemed like a little light went on in the previous game where he threw down that nasty two-handed dunk.

  22. Offer out to DE Richie Hagarty. Former Miami (OH) commit. He then transferred to SIU and will have two years of eligibility remaining. Offer out to CB Courtney Eubanks of North Dakota State. He also has two years of eligibility remaining.

  23. Mostly thinking in terms of next year - I think Sammy is a solid piece to our team in that he can obviously be hot from the 3 on any given night. He can also get some buckets down low and hit some jumpers. I don't think he's the type of player who should be expected to take over games regularly as he's not really a creator. He's taken a lot of criticism this season, but I think it was mostly deserved in OOC play and less so in MAC play. He's been more selective and efficient in MAC play based on my observation and stats seem to back that up as he's 20th in conference in FG% and 14th in 3pt%, which is the best on our team (just ahead of X). If you can get 10-12 out of him on average, that's meeting expectations in my mind. He's currently at 8.3ppg in MAC play.

  24. Zeke got a BS tech on that too

  25. I remember a game from years ago where Zeke Marshall stole the ball, dribbled the length of the court and threw down an awesome two-handed dunk. Dambrot said in the post game presser - "That was the dumbest thing Zeke could have ever done...he showed me that he's got that in him." Sammy showed Groce that he's got "that" in him. Expectations are now a couple notches higher. To-date I'd only heard rumors of that Sammy from people watching practices. 😁

  27. I got 2 GA tickets last year, may up it to 4. I go to every game but rarely have my party filled. It's better for the department's metrics to buy the season tickets as opposed to just donating, which I do some of as well. GA tickets for Akron football and men's basketball may be the best deals in college athletics. You get to see a great team play in a barn for $4 a night and get to hang out for an evening or afternoon at one of the nicest football venues in the country for a few hours every fall. Sign me up! If you ever get the chance, Club Level is also incredible. The suites, even more beautiful. That stadium is coming up on 15 years old and I still don't think I will ever be able to fully appreciate how nice it is. Especially considering how little the MAC cares for its own fans. I was imagining a much improved Zip squad building momentum up to playing Kent at home in early-mid October on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at 3:30 in front of a real college football crowd and experience. What a silly thing for me to do.

  28. The question I have is whether Sammy Hunter will play tonight with the same intensity he played with on Tuesday. Sammy went to the foul line 7 times on Tuesday. He has only attempted 25 all year!! That is because he was hustling on offense, hitting the boards, and taking the ball inside. He was also hitting his 3 ball and playing great D. I have not been a big fan of Hunter because he tends to stand on the wing, shoot three balls and primarily misses until we are up or down by 20. Not a recipe for success. However, on Tuesday I saw a completely different player. The third scorer we have been looking for all season. What was the difference Tuesday night, his parents were visiting from the Bahamas and he obviously wanted to impress them. He certainly impressed me and all other Zips fans. Unfortunately, on the post game he indicated his parents were leaving the following day. I hope Groce must have a heart to heart with Sammy to explain that if you have the talent to be successful, you should not waste that talent. Or in the alternative, the Zips forum needs to take up a collection and fly Sammy's parents up to Cleveland for the tourney. He needs to bring the intensity every game and should be at the foul line at least 4 times a game. This team needs Sammy Tuesday to show up on Friday.

  30. I can't imagine the buyout is millions? Probably $700k would do it. We could "buy" YSU for 250k as a replacement, and have a fun "local" home game with a good chance of a "W." I don't mind Kentucky fans coming up to Akron. They know how to tailgate, and it would make for a fun game day environment. Better than the typical morgue that InfoCision has been since its inception.

  31. Ali ended the season the way he started it, on the bench with an injury. He has missed the last 2 games with a concussion type injury. He had his best outing of the season before the injury scoring 15 points. Not sure if he will play in their tourney.
