I’m probably more responsible of this than anyone. But I also stand by it 100%. Hopefully the QB situation gets resolved and others will see. Unfortunately, we’re a 1 win team until that changes.3 points

in tonight's games, Providence 3 Butler 0 Providence now has 14 points Butler stays at 6 points of course, Akron and Marquette play to 1-1 tie Akron now has 10 points Marquette has 5 points now Current Standings with all teams ...having played 7 games East Division Georgetown 16 points Providence 14 points St. Johns 12 points UConn 12 points Seton Hall 7 points Villanova 5 points MidWest Division Xavier 12 points Akron 10 points Creighton 10 points Butler 6 points DePaul 5 points Marquette 5 points with one game left, Villanova, Butler , DePaul and Marquette ....can not reach 10 points..... so, the Zips will be one of the 8 teams playing in the Big East tournament Georgetown, Providence, St. Johns, UConn, Xavier, Akron and Creighton have locked 7 of the 8 big east tournament slots. Akron can still win the Midwest and get the tournament overall number 2 seed..... if the following happens 1) Akron wins at Butler 2) Xavier must lose at U Conn 3) Creighton muse either lose or tie at St. Johns all games on Saturday start at 2 pm eastern https://www.bigeast.com/calendar.aspx?path=msoc I believe that this article confirms that the winner of the 2nd division (even if they have lower point total....than teams in other division)...will get number 2 overall seed The winner in the midwest...will not be able to top the 16 points that Georgetown currently has. Providence could end up with 17 points...but they will not be the overall number 2 seed...if Georgetown ends up with 19 points https://www.bigeast.com/tournaments/?id=160 Following the conclusion of league play on Saturday, Oct. 28 the tournament field will be set with the squad with the highest overall conference points securing the No. 1 seed, along with the team in the opposite division with the highest conference point total locking up the No. 2 seed. The remaining six seeds, regardless of division, will be determined by conference points. Quarterfinal action will get underway on Saturday, Nov. 4, with the top four seeds hosting matches.3 points

This week’s advanced box score: https://collegefootballdata.com/boxscore/401532429 BG’s average starting field position was…the Akron 48 yard-line. I can’t say with any certainty I’ve seen that in a MAC football game before. Just total incompetence by this QB. The biggest issue with that room is that it isn’t even remaining a steady bad, it is getting worse. The biggest failure by this offensive staff is the disaster at QB and it is not even close. I can’t really wrap my head around it. At this point, I hope and pray that things will get better down the line. But this season has been an enormous gut punch. I can’t blame anyone for giving up on the 2023 Zips or the coaching staff at this point. This is really hard to follow year after year, no doubt about it. I wouldn’t be shocked to see some kind of shakeups within the staff following the season. I’m usually in the camp of let’s ride it out, but something isn’t right in that football facility. Just my opinion and speculation, but it isn’t supposed to look like this. Our next opponent is essentially a worse version of everything we have, somehow. And I’m terrified of them. This absolutely sucks.2 points

If we go with one of our freshmen QB's the Wagon Wheel Game is a tough week for a freshman to get his first start. I still think we're only an average QB away from being .500. But that doesn't take the blame off the staff's shoulders, as it's their responsibility to make sure we've got that average QB on the roster.2 points

I guess Keener was here before I joined? Of course he’s entitled to his own opinion and like the old saying goes “you are what your record says you are” but I’d disagree about there’s nothing positive when the defense is head and shoulders above last year’s in nearly every category. As we’ve discussed on the board adnauseam, QB play along with blend of OL/play-calling has masked what could have been. Like all fanbases, it’s easier to just say “we suck” due to all the frustration of loses. To each their own on that. Better results, no matter how it’s sliced, are needed. I didn’t listen to JoeMo. Not sure what else he can say at this point. None of the QBs that have played are going to get it done this year. Either need to make as many schematic adjustments as possible in the bye week (which I don’t see happening) or give one of the two freshman an opportunity to run the offense.2 points

No doubt Joe Dunn will begin with a question like, 'Well, coach, for the eighth straight week you came into the first quarter with a chance to win the game but just couldn't quite close it out."2 points

this is all I could find....on big east conference tiebreakers it is dated 2016..... https://www.bigeast.com/news/2016/11/3/MSOC_1103161823.aspx If Creighton and Akron finish atop the Midwest with 13 points, Creighton would win the Midwest division and get overall number 2 seed (if this 2016 document is still the be all and end all for tie-breakers) If Xavier ties UConn and both Akron and Creighton win, there would be a 3 way tie with 13 points. If I am reading, the last sentence correctly, Xavier beat Creighton 1-0 , Xavier and Akron tied, Creighton defeated Akron Xavier is 1-0-1 ; Creighton is 1-1, Akron is 0-1-1 Xavier wins tiebreaker and wins midwest division if anyone can find a more current tiebreaker rules, please post .....and analyze for the other soccer fans.......on ZNO Head-to-head results is the first tie breaker, then the record versus the team occupying the highest position in the standings. The third tie breaker is each team’s total conference wins. The conference has seven total tie-breaker procedures for head-to-head ties. When more than two teams tie, they form a mini-conference, where the team/teams with the best combined record versus the other teams gains the advantage.2 points

Ashton and Stefan played hard the whole time they were out there, but it’s so hard to replace the players of Malik and Dyson on the wings. If either of those guys were out there it could’ve been a different result2 points

Interesting article here on Trilly Donovan. In any event, I am not concerned as it is a scrimmage and who knows who played or what was being worked on etc. https://theathletic.com/4765841/2023/08/15/trilly-donovan-college-basketball-twitter/2 points

I did employ the strategy of not watching and only listening today. I really didn’t miss it, either. I spent time doing other things, watching other games. That was actually more enjoyable than I expected. Maybe quitting Akron football isn’t so hard after all. This is just as bad a feeling I had in 2018. QB situation was maybe a bit better then, but the same principles applied. Talent that’s good enough to win games, but just never put it together. I knew expectations were dangerous for this program. It’s the hope that kills you. I am still very much in the Moorhead camp, but if we lose to Kent, that will teeter the other direction. And what bothers me the most is, how on earth is Akron ever going to be able to hire a competent coach? People can call Moorhead overrated or a fake genius or whatever. Believe me, I am totally disappointed in him and his staff’s efforts this season. But schools like Akron don’t hire accomplished coaches like this very often. Especially considering how the MAC has fallen into the basement—I mean the sump pump—of FBS football. IF Moorhead doesn’t pan out, then Akron needs to take a long look in the mirror, and totally change how things are done. I can’t even really begin to tell you what that would mean. In the last 20 years, we have hired: P5 Coordinator P5 position coach D2 HC, former P5 HC 25 years prior D3/FCS Head coach P5 Head coach/P5 Coordinator None of them have been able to sustain success. Not one. Meanwhile, Kent hires a P5 receivers coach and Syracuse OC and has a couple crazy seasons. Maybe it is an Akron problem after all. Then that leads us to, what the hell is Akron doing wrong? How can Akron sustain success across multiple decades in basketball but hardly ever have a winning season in football? Anyway, that got away a bit. A couple weeks til basketball! Then we can hear how overrated that coach is after dropping the opening game in South Dakota. Go Zips!2 points

There seemed to be more of an emphasis on running the ball, although still not enough in my opinion. Once the game was out of hand, we had no choice but to go pass heavy. Akron actually out gained BG 157-81 in the first half. Final yardage was 279 to 297. JU was responsible for 4 turnovers. 2 interceptions and 2 fumbles. Not going to win many games with a 4-0 turnover deficit. The bye week is finally here, which will give the staff an opportunity to take a hard look at younger players who may see more snaps at the backend of the season. It will also be a time to attempt some offensive adjustments. Freshman receiver Adrian Norton stood out. Looked like he was open a few times and did catch two passes in the second half. He’s going to be really good and should already be receiving more snaps. Junior receiver Caleb Anderson made a difficult snag of a pass thrown behind him. Something the other receivers have failed to consistently do. That being said, Gathings did win a 50/50 ball in the first quarter. Left guard Ben Frank probably had his worst game, but has been the most consistent lineman this season. For the most part, the left side of the OL has been solid and the right side has struggled. Yesterday, that scenario was flipped. Defense was solid in the first half. The long TD drive followed up by JU’s fumble inside the 10 was a back breaker. BG scored on Nunnally in coverage and also drew a PI on him in the end zone. Why we are dropping our best pass rusher into coverage in those situations is beyond me. Kabbash Richards saw his first significant action on defense and did some good things. I think JoeMo said Kabbash was injured during the first half of season. He’ll likely see his snaps increase. Sophomore LB Jaharon Griffin was laying some hits. He may force himself into more playing time. For all the issues this team has had, the linebacker position has not been one of them and looks to be legitimately 4 deep. The starting OL played every snap on offense with the exception of Keylen Davis leaving the game due to injury. 2 of the sacks should be placed on them. The other 3 go to JU. QB - Undercuffler (Bullock) RB - Lingard (D. Anderson) WR - Gathings (Norton) WR - George (Anderson) WR - Adams (Walker) (Golden) TE - Banks (Newell) LT - Chambers LG - Frank C - T. Williams RG - K. Davis (Lyons) RT - N. Williams DE - Nunnally (Jackson) DT - Jones (Robinson) (Proffitt) DT - Lavea (Moore) (Murphy) DE - Adler (A. Smith) (Richards) LB - Fish (McCoy) (Griffin) LB - Cooper (McCoy) (Harris) NB - Lewis CB - Durant (Golden-Nelson) CB - Tallandier (Hunter) S - C. Thomas (Johnson) S - KJ Martin (Thompson)1 point

If Zips are going to scrimmage YSU ... why don't we play them. Easy game for both. Ditto Cleveland State.1 point

Just saw on Twitter/X someone said we had 3 starters out, I don't know who or if it is true but it could make some sense on the outcome.1 point

In particular, Ashton Kamdem played very well along mostly our left flank. He recorded lots of mileage, getting involved in the offense without neglecting his defensive responsibilities.1 point

What do they call doing the same thing over again and expecting different results?1 point

With all due respect, not really THAT tough of a game for a freshman to start. Attendance will be embarrassing for a rivalry game no one outside of Kent or Akron fans care about. If this was OSU-Mich, sure. But Akron-Kent? I dont think a freshman will be too rattled with 20 people in the stands. Now is the time to see what one of these kids has in them.1 point

Lol at not being able to get another "accomplished coach" How about we get a coach who can f&^&%in coach. Morehead hasn't accomplished a goddamn thing as a "Head Coach". I wish folks would stop giving him credit he has YET to achieve. Fordham = Not D1 Mississippi State = Had a brief run with players he didn't recruit which turned into an absolute train wreck that got him fired after 26 games going 14-12. Morehead has never built any program on this level. Not every assistant coach can be a Great Head Coach. Lets not act like we need Morehead more than he need's us.1 point

Another crappy tie in a game in which we totally dominated a respectable opponent. Blah! Wish the NCAA still did OT. In several of these games, it's doubtful the opponent would have been able to hold out for another thirty minutes.1 point

They've won one game this year and it was a gift from an FCS team. I don't think they have the talent some of you believe them to have. They are losing to average and bad teams in what some believe to be the worst conference in the FBS. Talent could occasionally overcome some of this misery. To be this bad, it can't just be coaching, talent or bad luck, it has to be a fatal combination of talent and coaching issues.1 point

In the 2:00 and 3:30 games... DePaul 3 Seton Hall 1 DePaul now has 5 points Seton Hall stays at 7 points credit to DePaul. They started the league campaign with an 0-4-0 mark. DePaul is 1-0-2 in their last 3 games and they have a winnable last game against Villanova UConn 2 Creighton 0 game was at Creighton ...really good road win for U Conn UConn now has 12 points Creighton stays put with 10 points 2 games left to be played today Current point totals for the teams that have played 7 games East Division Georgetown 16 points St. Johns 12 points UConn 12 points Seton Hall 7 points Villanova 5 points Providence has only played 6 games. Providence currently has 11 points and plays at Butler tonight MidWest Division Xavier 12 points Creighton 10 points DePaul 5 points as mentioned, Bulter hosts Providence....Butler currently has 6 points Our beloved Zips host Marquetter. Marquette currently has 4 points. Akron currently has 9 points. Zips can move into a first place tie in the Midwest division with a win tonight. And no, I have no idea......what the tiebreaker(s) is if the Zips and Xavier finish in a tie for the Midwest Division. The winner of the Midwest division will be the #2 seed in the Big East Conference tournament. Let's get a win tonight, Zips !!!1 point

So you're the one who jinxed the defense. I checked in once at halftime and once after the game when I couldn't resist checking out the box score. It is crystal clear after today's performance that Undercufffler should be the Zips QB for every second that is left in this season. He has got to be on the verge of a team single-season record for most turnovers per minute played. Do not let even one of the young QBs play AT ALL. To do so might cost the Underman a record that will probably stand forever.1 point

Being an old timer, I recall a Lee Owens team starting off a season something like 0-7, with horrific QB play, and Lee pulled Greg Gromek’s redshirt. And the Zips won their last 4 games. I’m hanging myself in my basement using a crudely assembled noose right now, so I can’t verify that exactly. But that was my late-90’s recollection. stupid electrical cord keeps breaking…guess I’ll have no choice but to go to the Kent game. 🦅 🦨1 point

If Zips lose this game we need to start Jennings or Wasel next week. Just see what they have. All QBs who have played so far all suck.1 point

Given the closer alignment with RPI in the past, I'm happy to see the committee give our team this respect and include us in the Top 16. Hopefully, we get a win tonight, and the week off between this match and the next allows for some additional recovery. Would be great to see the 2023 Zips get hot near the end of the season like the 2018 Zips and make a great run.1 point

In the first 7 weeks of 2023 Ohio State has 7 wins. Since 2019, the Zips have 6 total wins.0 points
