Mike Bevan is doing a great job. https://www.beaconjournal.com/story/sports/college/zips/2023/12/22/university-of-akron-zips-basketball-enrique-freeman-reagan-bass-john-groce-ryan-gensler-ncaa-mac/71998956007/4 points

I was told at the basketball game last night that an Oregon QB is visiting this week. I also heard a Cal QB referenced.4 points

Have some extra time today? Check out Roggow’s HS FILM. He has a bit of a funky throwing motion, but has a nice release at the end. Manages to get it out cleanly and throws a catchable ball. He has some mobility to him too. Roggow is more polished as a passer than Wasel coming out of HS, but probably not as much upside if we’re comparing the two. I guess you could say higher floor and lower ceiling. Still need a proven QB to compete this year, but I think Roggow is a better option than the 2 QBs we had transfer out.4 points

Gardner Webb is NOT a bad team. Detroit Mercy or Buffalo are bad teams this season. GW was physical and tough.4 points

We lose this game without Ali. Although we have seen him in limited action, he is shooting and making a lot of short jump shots and not backing in like he did before he left Akron. Had a great game today.4 points

If you are going to win a lot of game, you have to win a lot of different types of games. Tonight, the Zips played a bad team that played great. Tip your hat to GWU. They played great. The Zips handled different runs by GWU, kept their composure and won. A good night.4 points

Amazing longevity in MLS for some all time great zips... I believe that the 2024 season will be Wil Trapp's 12th year in MLS. Wil's Minnesota United team mate, Zarek Valentin.....will begin his 14th year in professional soccer in 2024. I believe that Zarek played 3 years in a Norway professional league. I believe that this will be Zarek's 11th year in MLS. I think that Nashville's Teal Bunbury started his MLS career in 2010....so 2024 should be his 15th year in the league. The spectacular Darlington Nagbe will be starting his 14th year in MLS in the 2024 season. I believe that Evan Bush had to play a few years in either USL league one or the NASL before he debuted in MLS. I believe that he first signed with an MLS team in late 2011. Scott Caldwell joined MLS at the same time as Wil Trapp......so Goal scorer Scotty also had more than 10 years in MLS. The speedy Jonathan Lewis is only 26 years old but the 2024 season will be JLew's 8th year in MLS. The great Richmond Laryea (better known as Richie)......will start his 9th year in professional soccer in 2024. I believe that Perry Kitchen....played 11 years of pro soccer....8 in MLS....and 3 in Scottish or Danish Leagues. and of course, when you talk about the all time greats.....that have played in multiple leagues.....including.....the English Premier League, MLS and the highest level Turkish league....we must talk about DeAndre Yedlin DeAndre started his career in 2013...so 2024...will be his 12th year in the highest levels of professional soccer. Of course, DeAndre has also played in multiple world cups for USA. I believe that DeA has more than 80 caps with USMNT. Soccer is a tough, physical game.....great credit to so many former zips......for having careers.....lasting well past a decade in pro soccer. I don't hear much about Joao Moutinho since he moved to the Italian Leagues....but Joao has been playing in MLS or Italy since 2018. fknbuflobo.....will give me grief...if I don't mention Aodhan Quinn. Aodhan Quinn (in my humble opinion) has been good enough to play in MLS. 2024 will be Aodhan's 11th year of being a truly great, dominating player in USL.3 points

The Zips wrap up their OOC schedule on the 30th with the A10’s St. Bonaventure at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse. The Bonnies (that’s worse than Runnin’ Bulldogs) were predicted to finish third in the A10 and currently stand at 7-3 going into Saturday’s game against Florida Atlantic. 6’3” graduate guard, Cinci transfer, Mika Adams-Woods leads the Bonnies at 15.3 ppg. 6’4” graduate guard Charles Pride leads rebounding at 6.3 rpg. 6’3” guard Darryl Banks (9.1 ppg) was named to the A10 preseason first team while 6’10” forward Chad Venning (13.6 ppg/4.3 rpg) was named to the third team. Their 3 losses have come to Cansius, Florida International and Auburn. Their best win appears to be over Oklahoma State. They appear to be an older, experienced team like the Zips. This game should be a good barometer of where our Zips stand going into league play.1 point

... in your golden, fleece diapers... please let it be Ty Thompson, and please help Ty Thompson decide to commit to Akron. Here are the two potential Cal QBs possibly referenced... Sam Jackson V Ben Finley1 point

Ali has really matured. Instead of staring down the opposing bench when he scores he is smiling and having fun. Glad to see him being successful and having fun.1 point

It is. Saw and talked to her last week at a local HS game they dominated at. Watched her several times last year as well. She's excited to go to SC. Class act too. They've also got a sophomore that is showing well for them, bookends with Naomi. Her name is Carlee Bedford, combo G and F.1 point

Shutting down the north exits was a mistake that lasted only a minute or two. Paul Hammond saw it and corrected the ushers immediately.1 point

He had a rough year at Butler but I think he's actually a better player than he was when he left Akron.1 point

You have to win the ugly ones and that's what the Zips did tonight. The good- the offense was very efficient. They had only 11 turnovers in 45 minutes. They really took advantage of GW smaller lineup after their big man went out. The bad- the defense was really off tonight. The rotations were slow and they were beat up the floor on many occasions. Until they went to switching in Scott for Sammy on defense late, they had problems with the 4 guard lineup. The worst- they have now shut down the north exits to the JAR at the end of the game, purportedly to keep people from the steps to the locker rooms. Add that to them closing the northeast entrance and charging for parking and I'm getting increasingly frustrated. They seem to feel compelled to turn away fans as much as possible. Oh, and I got to watch the entire first half through a a 10U basketball team because the 6 ushers they have for the entire place don't keep people off of the rails. Good thing they're not at home for a couple of weeks!1 point

Nice to see Tavari hit that 3. As a team, sort of sleep walking through that half. unclear how the GW player hurt his shoulder. Looked like he was in a good deal of pain, but on replay there didn’t appear to be any contact or movement that would make you think an injury would come from it.1 point

By the way, Diogo will be playing for former Zip Blair Gavin who is currently FC Tulsa’s head coach. from the link in the X post above… Head Coach Blair Gavin is equally thrilled “Diogo is an exciting addition to the team with his drive and passion for the game,” Gavin said, “He has a unique ability to beat players off the dribble and unlock teams in the final third.” Pacheco’s journey to professional soccer started at the University of Akron, where he played four seasons before joining Minnesota United FC 2 in 2022.1 point

New Mexico and Utah State are 31 & 32 respectively in today's NET rankings. Mountain West has 5 teams in the top 50, and 6 in the top 75. F the NCAA for stripping us of the Utah State upset because of the Ali Ali crap. Drake is 62. St. Bonnie is 79. PCCC is 105 and Akron is 106. Bradley is 129. UNLV is 151.1 point

I am really perplexed that we didn't see Wasel at all this year. He could have retained his red shirt after apearing in 4 games. QB room: Bullack--He can run, but can we move the ball against 8 men on the line of scrimage? Wasel--Who knows? In coming freshman--good luck. Potential JUCO or portal addition--Maybe our best hope.1 point
