I still have faith in Joe. He's been dealt a really difficult hand with taking over such a moribund program that was at the absolute lowest point. And now the budget cuts. I still like this team. The P5 September meat grinder will end soon enough and I expect a .500 season in the MAC. Finley will get some time to throw, and the RB's will get some holes to hit. That'll give the D a few breathers. Pushing up against opposing linemen who will be selling pipe and wire in a couple years instead of playing in the NFL will also help the Zips finish games stronger.4 points

Thank the lord. We could go for a good stomping of an opponent, regardless of who they are.3 points

I was able to find the Villanova/Colgate matchup on ESPN+. Almost all of Colgate’s offense is RPOs and reads. The QB runs more than anyone on offense and many of those runs are designed runs. The QB isn’t necessarily quick, but does scoot well when he gets up to his full speed. WR #9 has some burst to him. I’m sure Colgate will have some explosive plays, but they have had a difficult time finishing drives. The defense doesn’t have anyone I would consider explosive, but they are well coached. LB #43 is an excellent tackler. The punter is pretty good and may give us a challenge with field position. The kicker is 1 of 2 on the year with both FG attempts between 30-39 yards. He hasn't flashed a big leg on kickoffs, so we should have some return opportunities.3 points

Something about NE Ohio football fans and losing their minds after a few games. Between the Zips and Browns, I have watched nothing but losing ball for almost my entire life. I'm not going to give up after 0-2. Especially when the Zips first 4 games are against two BigTen teams and one SEC team. Just have to stay as healthy as possible and hope for the best during conference play. Having said that, if we don't win Saturday by double digits I may join the doomers lol.2 points

give us all the hate and disrespect... we have the best coach and the most talented roster... Cream will rise to the top2 points

Anything can happen, but the likelihood of losing to this Colgate squad is extremely low. 2022 St. Francis turned out to be a better FCS team than anyone expected (9-3). And as it turns out, the 2023 Morgan State team had a strong defense and had opportunities to win all their games except for one. This is not meant to take a shot at Colgate, but they are likely the worst FCS team we’ve played in the Moorhead era. Outside of a mobile QB and a well coached defense, they just don’t have a lot this year.2 points

How do you leave off an absolute workhorse, who has been a staple in our roster for 4 years now?? Evan Wilson deserves better1 point

I think if this ends up being another 2-10 season (God forbid) I could see him walking away and doubling his salary with a P5 OC gig.1 point

Just when I think there are a few wins to be had in the MAC schedule for Zippy and Crew, NIU knocks off ND, BGSU plays really well against #8 Penn State, and EMU somehow did not seem all that bad in a loss to Washington. Or is Penn State really overrated?1 point

Thought of this, too. We're stuck with Moorhead I think. Akron fans have already seen the worst in the last five years, we're pretty desensitized to it by now. I imagine we'll win this game by 7, and then beat Kent State. Would be nice to get another win against Buffalo or something. 3-9, 2-6 MAC.1 point

I have a scar on my knee when I fell down drunk in the RB parking lot in 1994. We could induct that.1 point

We should control this game. I haven’t seen Colgate play, but going off of stats and PFF grades, they’ve struggled to run the ball and their OL has been below average. They do seem to be solid defensively. Our defensive front should dominate this game and I’m anxious to see if Lavea and Moore can build off their performances from last week. We’ve struggled to create any kind of consistent pass rush thus far (it has been there in spurts). If we can’t put pressure on a struggling Colgate offense, I’ll be worried. Although, I suspect we’ll finish with multiple sacks and double digit hurries. I want to see our pass blocking take a major step forward as well. Pass protection from the OL and RBs has not been close to acceptable. I realize the competition level we’ve played has been strong, but there’s far more talent and athleticism at these two positions than when JoeMo arrived. It’s time for that to start showing.1 point

17 members of Colgate's football squad this year are from Ohio. So there is the possibility that there will be more Raider fans in the stands to watch the big contest than Zip fans! Heard a rumor that the urinals from the Rubber Bowl will be inducted into the Zips hall of fame at halftime. If that doesn't draw in a pot load of Zip fans, I don't know what it will take.1 point

Looks like we opened as 10.5 favorites. We haven't beaten a FCS team by double digits yet under Joe Mo. Would sure feel nice.1 point

Or, field a competitive team, play at a time and day of the week where they can attract students alumni fans and the general community to games. The University doesn't maximize the opportunities for the primary purpose of the stadium. There is no evidence they could do concerts well. In fact, many stadium concerts were cancelled this year because of lack of interest and prices.1 point

The real issue may of been the 2 horrible coaching hires during the stadiums life. The first one not only being a bad coach but the guy came off as a jerk all time. This stunted the excitement from Joe Akron in only the 3rd season of the stadium.1 point

This got me interested so I Googled it. Thanks for mentioning it. What Toledo did to start the year promoting athletics is more than impressive. It's almost as if they are using their athletic department to benefit the athletes students alumni fans and general community. With some effort....... https://utrockets.com/news/2024/8/21/athletics-rocket-week-begins-aug-22-to-kick-off-2024-25-season.aspx1 point

Raise the rent for the lacrosse team. Seriously…I don’t have much admiration for a guy that comes in and says “I wouldn’t have built that stadium” and gets off the hook for life. If we were in the Rubber Bowl the responsible parties would be bemoaning “If only we had a modern stadium, then I could really take the program to the next level…”. You can't have it both ways. It’s Guthrie’s job to fill Infocision seats and increase revenue. I don’t see the creativity or effort. Is it easy? No. But holding your hand out for the ESPN and Ohio State welfare checks…who needs an AD if that’s the best you’ve got? $45 mill over 20 year is a chump change ante to be a division 1 football program. Build that stadium today and it’d cost at least $250 million. If Guthrie is any good, he should be on the short list for a P5 job by now. Wonder who’s sizing him up?1 point

When your options were Scarborough or a Football Coach, your selection committee has failed you. And lets be real here: Scarborough was hired to be a hatchet guy. Period. Fullstop. He wasn't hired for any other purpose. To be a hatchet person for an incompetent BoT made of political appointees.1 point

You can wear out 34 keyboards here, if you'd like. Discuss the Athletics Budget until the cows come home. I pay for this forum so you can do so. The Football Forum is for coaching, game, opponent and recruiting discussions. *Checking my notes* - Not for discussing the athletics budget.0 points
