Tonight will be the 12th time in the last 18 seasons (minus 2020) that Akron will play in the MAC Championship game. We've been fortunate to have great coaches and players to make it all possible.8 points

Alabama State won their semifinal game. That means all 4 participants in the ABC made it to their semifinal at the very least, with Omaha, Alabama State and potentially Akron reaching their conference finals. Lamar lost to McNeese St in their semifinal game, Omaha won their conference, and we will see what happens with ASU & Akron. People scoffed at the ABC, but it was a mini version of the MAC tournament - 3 games in 3 days vs above average competition. UPDATE: 3/4 teams have at least made their conference final. Akron Basketball Classic produces champions.4 points

Zips fans, you can’t properly pound on the table in rage after a stupid decision or call unless you are wearing the official Coach Groce sideline vest. Get yours today!!3 points

Did we see the once upon a time church mouse, TJ, become the official leader of this team last night? Time will tell, but I think that would be a wonderful development.3 points

If Akron is smart they will take the space where the inner belt was and turn it into a park with some amenities. Kind of like a mini central park.Right now there is a faction who thinks it should be some kind of reparations project to right a precieved wrong from 60 years ago. If you want to attract young people to live downtown there needs to be someplace for recreation. Charlotte has a big advantage with the nice year round weather. But Akron has nice enough weather to make it useful for 9 months of the year.2 points

And IMO, that level is much lower than a few years ago. Watching Ball State and Toledo in the championship game right now reinforces that.2 points
-
Oh wow you're correct. Thought that was a semifinal game for some reason. So all 4 participants made their conference final at the very least.2 points

Their length is quickly neutralized by our athleticism and their lack thereof. Miami is a one trick pony and that's only good enough to be competitive. Kent shot 35.9% from the field and 29.2% from 3, yet that game came down to the wire. Miami shot 36.7% from 3 and was barely able to win that game. The only team that can beat us is ourselves. If we execute, we're going dancing.2 points

As an extra FU, the NIT selection show the next day on ESPNU went to their first commercial saying, "Coming up, find out who ABC U, XYZ State, and AKRON will be playing in the NIT (little Akron highlight montage plays)!" And then we weren't selected at all. Anyone else remember that? 26-7 and no post-season. For any newer fans or young'uns....besides Middleton, that team was lead by Romeo Travis and Dru Joyce III, two local Akron kids (high school teammates of LeBron) that were charismatic, likeable and so, so, so good. This was before the CBI and other smaller post-season tourneys existed. I haven't loved a Zip team as much as I loved that one.2 points

Still hands-down the toughest loss of my life of sports fandom, especially since Cedrick Middleton is perhaps my alltime favorite Zip.2 points

Of course there is. The reason is it is a historical failure as a hotel and it's time to put the property to better use.2 points

Perfect. Snagged 2 in the floor 2 section. Will be right behind the hoops by the Zips bench2 points

We stayed for the second game - my wife asked me who we should root for. I said I wanted them both to lose. She said fine, one today and one tomorrow. 🤣2 points

We beat Toledo twice this year in basketball and now once in rugby. I love our fight and strong finish. Go Zips!!2 points

I also look forward to the Zips strength coach working with him. With any luck he can do for him what he did for Amani.1 point

Could someone tell the lady with the ZIPS cereal boxes how much Zips Nation appreciates her! I think she was there the time I witnessed the event in 2003, and every time I see her I know it's time for an @Akron Zips Men's Basketball title run! She's a true CLE tradition!! Our version of John Adams. 😄1 point

I caught that. We need to get Hibbert into the Wentz Financial Factory with Okonkwo and even Lyles and the freshman.1 point

I don’t follow pro ball anymore so I don’t know CBS Sports panelist, Roy Hibbert. After the game vs Toledo he said he really wants to work with Okonkwo in the offseason. He likes how hard he plays and his ability to draw fouls.1 point

I agree, good question. Especially considering Miami had won the last 3 matchups going in.1 point

I felt like they torched us when we went zone. Gave up to many easy baskets and rebounds.1 point

Think that’s the way to go. Zips were so efficient last night getting to the rim against a much quicker team. Spread that floor and put Miami on skates tonight. My only concern is losing people on D. Discipline on that end going to be critical. Have to stress those shooters just enough. Long rebounds are what they are. Gonna give up some of those but stay connected to those shooters1 point

I can't sanction Tavari getting that technical, but I have to admit that I enjoyed the fire he showed in wanting to go at the Toledo guys1 point

So what’s the deal with next season? I know we have a couple redshirts that will be in the mix but who are we looking to add? Shelbee needs to be the focal point of the offense and I feel we need to add a solid PG at the very least. Watching the girls in Cleveland the past couple days we are not even close to that level currently.1 point
-
No big mystery here. Miami shoots almost 40% as a team from 3. Gotta make them put it on the floor. Zips need to play smart and use their athletic advantage. Bring it home!1 point

And they also showed that shot and Akron in the leadup to the NIT selection show. I remember watching that show and being disappointed that they did not get an invite. The team later had a picture signing for that team. A person in my office gave me a picture of the team. As a result of Akron not getting selected, the NIT made a new rule that conference champions would get an automatic invite to the NIT. And last year they tossed that rule.1 point

There are a ton of new apartments coming downtown in the next few years. There is no reason to bulldoze the awesome and unique Quaker. Just renovate and turn it back into hotel.1 point

Since 2007, Akron has appeared in 11 of 17 MAC Championship games. We've never won back-to-back tournaments (time to change this!). Incredibly, we have only faced 4 teams in the championship game: 3-2 vs Kent State 1-2 vs Ohio 1-1 vs Buffalo 0-1 vs Miami1 point

Why don't we just start "John's Next Endeavor" or "Keeping up with John and Dustin" and get it over with.1 point

On the survey please complain about the loud constant "music" during the football games that overpowers the speakers. Hate it!!!!!1 point
