I once took a whiz on a picture of Rick Pitino at the bottom of a urinal in a college bar in Lexington KY.5 points

Oggie aka the Big Stank started playing more and more hero ball when he got his runs. There were more than a couple bad 1-on-3 takes or no look passes out of bounds that had Groce just staring at him in disbelief. Bad defense and not running the offense means take a seat kid. I would have liked him to stay b/c he does have a lot of upside but the portal will tell us a lot about his true value.4 points

I think Oggie's shortcomings on defense cost him time. Groce also always emphasizes how the guys practice and I suspect this did not bode well for a kid in a new country and new system. The Zips system is much more up tempo and physical when what he was likely seeing in Europe. Also, Groce's rotations tend to shrink as the season wears on and he ended up as the 10th or 11th guy in a 9 man rotation.3 points

Idea: teams/players should have to sign two-year contracts. If this included the redshirt year this would still give the athlete an opportunity to transfer two times in his/her career if they would so choose. Sound fair?3 points

Re: Big Stank. I have been holding off my thoughts on our former coach. Trying to let a little time heal the wounds. Coach didn't play him and he was clearly better than a few that got more minutes. Probably why he is transferring. 6'9" ball handler with offensive skills. Yes he was raw but he could of helped us.2 points

Here is a nice article about Malcom if you are interested. Says he has interviewed with seven teams and is projected to go anywhere from fourth round to seventh... https://www.kitsapsun.com/story/sports/2026/04/03/malcolm-dewalt-nfl-draft/89389791007/ Hope the kid makes it...2 points

most recent article I found discussing this came out last year, included : OSU, Nebraska, TT, NCST, USC, FSU, Oklahoma Add Pitt and Rutgers this year. I'm sure plenty of smaller schools are part of this trend too but Sports Illustrated doesn't write about them..2 points

Forgot about that. Feel like a bit of an idiot replying to Mr. Perkins asking if Micah is someone who could follow Todd May to Akron lol.2 points

I don't see how any players could get poached, there is no transfer portal until after the season. So unless I am mistaken the rational of closing it to the public for fear of some other school poaching players is nonexistent.1 point

Briscoe and Barre saw the court a lot more than a regular season game as well. It was an exhibition and Groce got everyone out there.1 point

I think a full off-season of work on his defense and strength would have gone a long way for Oggie. Unfortunately, he didn't get here until late August or early September as I recall.1 point

I disagree. We are talking about a 6’8” guard from Serbia who at one point would have been brought along and developed and, who knows, could eventually be all-MAC. I vaguely remember extreme excitement when he was successfully recruited.1 point

I used to look forward to the Blue & Gold Spring Game every year. More of a benchmark of getting through another tough NE Ohio winter & it's always fun to see which players stand out as by this time every year I'm already looking forward to Zips football. But it's been a dud since JoeMo's taken over. If they're worried some of our player will get poached before next season then okay. I trust JoeMo & Co. But I'm still disappointed. Anyhow, go Zips.1 point

I actually went to the final Spring game last year and it was disappointing. They were so pleased with the previous scrimmage it became a "thud" practice and they just wrapped up. Kept the players safe which was good for the program but wasn't what I expected and there really was not excitement about it anyways. I'm not hating on this team yet, I don't want to be mr negative in april.1 point

Right. Speaking of, a few MAC schools are having Spring "Scrimmages" on a weeknight - didn't bother enough to see if these are typical spring games open to the public, but either way my sense is traditional spring games are going away gradually1 point

I believe OSU Is having one this year. Our recent Spring games have been glorified practices. They used to be a fun Spring event with the surplus equipment sale but they've become nothing special. Last year's event in the fieldhouse was a snoozer.1 point

Player development is a Zip strength. The calculus of that is tougher in the new era. But also, couldn’t Oggy have gotten more minutes in blowouts? Has KenPom distorted playing time decisions?1 point

You really think people are there scouting players? My guess is that there are only family and friends at the spring game anyway.1 point

Enrique was active with the Timberwolves last game but didn't play. He's active again tonight, against his former team, and Minnesota is currently up by about 30 so he may see some time in the 4th quarter.1 point

I just gift money to the collective instead in those circumstances. There is no COGS attached to my donation and I don't have extra clothing that I won't wear taking up space. Seems like a win/win. Either way your support is appreciated.1 point

I mean Prather is in the portal again. Not like we can't offer him. It would have been challenging for Prather to get the minutes here to develop had he stayed. We've had a lot of tremendous guard play. Leaving was probably the correct decision for him.1 point
