NCAA Tournament- Game 1- UCLA

Recommended Posts

I am hoping for a competitive game going into the last 5 minutes.  In my mind, the pressure is on UCLA since we are not the team that went to the final 4 last year and has everyone back next year.

The keys to the Zips being competitive

Freeman staying out of foul trouble.  The one thing that nobody noticed on Saturday is that Freeman did not pick up a single foul.  I cannot tell you how many times MAC refs have taken him out of the game by calling ticky tack fouls on him.  Will the refs let the boys play?

Not running out the time clock and forcing a bad shot.  Yes, we play slow.  However, we cannot play so slow that we run out of time to take a shot or forced into a desperate shot.

We have to play as well as we did during the tournament with no bad passes, no unforced errors, aggressive defense, points in the paint and good 3 point shooting.  In other words, we must shoot around 50% from the field and at least around 40% from 3.

Finally, we have to rebound.  We cannot get beat off  the boards.  Unfortunately, when you play a highly talented team, there is little room for error.

Go Zips!!!!!

Let us not forget our one Ace in the hole, a John Groce coached team has never lost in the first round of the NCAA tournament. 😉

And the MAC representative has won a game in each of the last 3(?) tournaments.

Two jinxes cancel each other out, right?

Who selected the Town Tavern for Zips watch party? Arrived at 7pm place was packed for St Patty's Day. Table wait 1 1/2 hours. No section was set aside for Zips fans.  Another failure by UA of where to have a watch party.   I left and went to Score.  Go Zips

The people looking to burnish their resume and take credit are all in Portland.

Beware of the "Official Watch Party." Sounds like not much has changed since the women made the tournament and the official watch party was in the valley at Johnny J's. No one from the U was there and I had to get the unaware manager to tune in the game and we missed the first 5 minutes.
