I know nothing ... (wish I did) ... I am questioning if he is eligible. I haven't seen or heard any official or unofficial word either from this board or from the athletic department. That's why I hedged a bit on Zips being consensus MAC favorites. Like I said ... Zips are certainly MAC favorites w/Ali, but just one of several contenders w/o him.

Hoping for the best ... but just my opinion.

The MAC coaches voted him to the pre-season all-MAC team, so I would assume they'd all believe he's eligible. I don't see why not.

YSU wanted that scrimmage more.  Bad omen.  Fortunately, Groce's teams peak in March...or at least they did in 2022.

Would really like to know what the 'secret scrimmage' format was: Was it a 'game scrimmage' w/20-minute halfs and a break in between. Was it officiated? Was the scrimmage  2 20-minute halfs, 1-on-1s, 2-on-2s. Officiated? Was it more structured? 20-min man-to-man, 20-min zone and so forth? Was it fully officiated.

As you can see, these 'secret scrimmages' can have a variety of formats. So the final 'score' may not be really indicative of a true 'game' score. And again, officiating (or none) could make a difference as well.

In the end, not too bummed about the score.

BTW .... who remembers the year Akron blew the doors off Michigan in a 'secret scrimmage.' How did that turn out for Akron and for Michigan???

I agree with your line of thinking, but I believe Bubba was named to some preseason all-MAC teams and we know how that turned out :(

I personally don't care about scrimmage scores one bit. Who knows plays and who doesn't, and who knows if the staff is trying to win or trying out new things/different rotations.

my comment was parody.  it was an effing scrimmage.  YSU was "wanted it more" "was hungrier."   Please.

Are you like me? In the seasons where Akron won the regular season but didn't win the tournament, did you look forward to them playing in the NIT?

Did you relish their wins over Temple, Florida State, and Houston in that regard?

Do you like it when teams like Cal-State Bakersfield make it to the NIT Final Four as an #8 (the lowest in the NIT field), as they did in 2017?

Did you notice that last year, the NIT champions, both finalists, and 3 of the 4 semifinalists came from outside the six high-major conferences? (Atlantic Coast, Big East, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12 and SEC)?

Well, too bad! Because that's all over now! No more NIT auto-bids for regular season champs! Instead, LITERAL DOUBLE AUTO-BIDS for EACH (!!!) of the six high majors mentioned above!

I am absolutely livid. They can't say teams below these conferences haven't succeeded in the tournament, so this is about money and money only.

F*** it. NCAA, follow their lead!  Restrict the Big Dance to those conferences only!  Yes, mid-majors have excelled there too, and the whole nation loves Cinderella stories so much that it's the literal foundation of the tournament's everlasting popularity, but the MAC tournament champs will not generate as much money for the tournament as Virginia Tech boosters or whoever.

I've often thought a separate mid major tournament would be a lot more fun.  As for the NIT, it's a garbage tournament with the soul purpose of making $$.  I've always viewed the MAC Tournament as the end of the line.  We are fortunate to have it in Cleveland, and we can all enjoy it without spending tons of $$ on travel.  Has anyone ever broken down how much it costs a dedicated fan to follow a team from first round to the Final Four?  It has to be close to $15,000?

NIT is hurting. Zero incentive for NBA talent to participate and it doesn't have the magic/feel of the Big Dance. This is strictly a desperation move for squeeze money out of the P6s. Not sure how long the contract is with Madison Square Garden, but between needing to fill that arena and the TV deal needing viewers, this doesn't surprise me. The Great Separation continues.

Ugh. That's not very impressive either. I really hope coach has been doing some experimenting during these scrimmages (as to the reason for our poor showings).

The reception was a nice event.  Groce starts speaking and half of the room wants to run through a wall for him.  He did allude to something negative that he hoped they could treat as a learning experience and I got the sense it was the YSU scrimmage.  Tavari, Baker and Prather were not present so I assume they had class.  Ali Ali is still awaiting approval from the NCAA.

The new women's coach really made a good impression on the crowd  Enrique was a real pro in front of the crowd.  Same for Reagan Bass.

Ali’s hearing is apparently this week, and then it’s another couple weeks until the NCAA is expected to give its verdict. Not looking like he’s gonna be available for those initial marquee ooc games. Hope for the best, I guess…

I would hope this is the NCAA dragging their feet and not Akron. Whoever it is, completely unacceptable for this to run into the season.
