As "pedestrian" as OU has been under Boals post-Jason Preston (comparatively), this is one helluva coaching job by him this year with all the injuries they've had.

When we played them the first time at the JAR, despite our relatively comfortable win, the Bobcats played extremely hard, and with the swagger that you've come to expect from OU's teams over the years. Boals clearly had not "lost the team"...they were just in the midst of figuring things out after some injuries.

They play tough, and confident. If we bring a milquetoast effort, they'll beat us in Cleveland despite their marginal talent.

No Zips guard is playing heavy minutes. There's no excuse for not giving maximum effort. If anyone is pouting over lack of playing time, they only need to look in the mirror. The 30 min/game starting guard positions have been open since November, and no one has taken advantage.

Bought my Thursday ticket using the ARIZZOMAC2024 code. $19 after taxes for the cheapest one, which is fine because I can sit anywhere I'd like. Not a bad deal to watch 4 D1 tournament basketball games.

Parking voucher is available for $16 (after taxes). I got one of them too (garage on Huron). No bad for downtown parking .

The UMass folks will love our affordable tournament. 🙂

It really is a great event, so thankful that it is in Cleveland. Rocket Mortgage is one of my favorite sports venues, especially since the recent renovation. I love taking a half day at work then heading up the road to watch some great competition. Although this year I took the whole day off on Thursday assuming we were going to play at 11am, who would've thought!

I used the promo code, too. Got 4 lower Club level $42 ($55 with fees) tickets for $35 each. I called the parking deck last week and they said cost would be $10 on Thursday, so I am taking their word for it. If it's $20, I'm only out an extra 3 or 4 bucks versus Seat Geek with fees.

It's kind of funny looking back on some of the comments on this board from earlier in the season. In January people were trying to claim we would be a 10 or 11 seed in the tournament. Others were saying there was a good chance Groce would be leaving for a better job at the end of the year. Now it's more us praying this teams figures themselves out. What a roller-coaster of a season.

Amen.  I was just thinking of that in the last couple of days.  There was even talk of an undefeated MAC season.  Oh how the worm has turned!  I can only go Friday and Saturday and now I am wondering how much of my weekend will now be open.

I already have my tickets for Thursday, but was playing around with the link from the ticket office. As far as I've taken it, it only says Akron Alottment. Do they tell you the section/location before they send you the ticket? I guess it can vary from round to round, but they know where they are on Thursday. I guess they still have to sort out the priority points, though.

I think there's been some pretty clear roster construction flaws for awhile now. I know he hasn't played up to expectations, but imagine if Ali was never cleared? Yikes.

I have no expectations that this team can win an NCAA Tournament game. I do think, in a wide open year for the league, that they can win the MAC Tournament. It's going to require a re-dedication to defense, some better play from role players, and Freeman finding a way to stay on the court, but they can do it.  I think Miami is a perfect "get right" opportunity with how bad they are offensively.

He leaves his feet too willingly to block shots. I think some teams are on to it.

Groce also needs to spell him at the right times. Last game he had one personal foul with about 30 seconds remaining in the first half, and Groce didn't sub him out. He immediately got his second foul. And, if I recall correctly, almost got a 3rd foul (offensive) before the buzzer.

How come teams are on to a lot of things we do but we don't seem to be on to things other teams do?

At this point of the season there should be few if any surprises.  As a result, often, late in the season you see teams try to run their offensive sets for 20 seconds, give up, then have a big man come out top to set a screen for a guard who goes and tries to make a play.

Agree completely. Foul #5 at Western Michigan happened because he jumped into a shooter taking what was already going to be a difficult shot. He's big enough to alter shots without doing that.

I don't think Western Michigan was doing anything in particular to stop us. We scored 84 points but we didn't play typical Akron-caliber defense, or anything close to it in the 2nd half. EMU loss was lack of execution + nobody could hit an outside shot aside from Sammy. And then we lost close games at Toledo and Ohio, two teams we've historically struggled against at times on the road.

Don't get me wrong, it hasn't been pretty the last two games and this is a flawed team, but with a week to reset, their chances of winning 3 games are as good as anyone else.

I agree, but they almost took Enrique’s head off on one play. For that game it was a weak call.

Just saw an announcement that 40 more student tickets are going to be made available. Just be one of the first 40 students to claim them at The Corner Alley before the game.

So what happens if you're #41? If I was a student I'd rather know that I have a ticket before I drive up there.
