clarkwgriswold Posted Wednesday at 02:51 AM Report Posted Wednesday at 02:51 AM The Zips head to Portage County Friday night to face the 21-7 Flushes. The Flushes are coming off of a last second 83-81 win over CMU.  Delrecco Gillespie continues to lead PCCC. He is third in the MAC in scoring at 18.8 ppg and leads the league in rebounding at 8.6 rpg. The Zips handled PCCC earlier in the season in the JAR, handing them a 69-52 loss on a night PCCC went 1 for 23 on three pointers. 1 Quote
Blue & Gold Posted Wednesday at 02:07 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 02:07 PM This could be a much different game. KSUcks won't be ice-cold from behind the arc & they'll have Whaley back, who hit the game winner last night vs. CMU. We've beaten KSUcks 6 times straight 🤞 At the JAR it looked like we were in their heads 🤞🤞 4 Quote

clarkwgriswold Posted Wednesday at 11:03 PM Author Report Posted Wednesday at 11:03 PM Need to limit the turnovers. After Tuesday night the Zips are likely to see a lot of defensive pressure. Limit the turnovers and stay close on the rebounds and the Zips should win. Quote
Westie Posted Wednesday at 11:24 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 11:24 PM Kent has played an incredible number of close games. To their credit, they have pulled through in most of them. Gonna likely see them twice coming up.  I fully expect Kent to try and get under the Zips skin by being super aggressive.  Show composure, rebound and make every possession count. Zips get it done but it’s gonna be a battle.   1 Quote
ZipsFan31 Posted Wednesday at 11:27 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 11:27 PM I think this has loss written all over it. But we live in their heads rent free. We will break their hearts again. Quote

But then you gotta remember that we're 37-2 (i think) in our last 39 MAC games if you include MAC tournament games.  (This dates back to the consecutive losses to EMU and WMU going into the 2024 MAC Tournament.)  So we'll probably win easily. 😅 Quote
csims0917 Posted yesterday at 01:24 PM Report Posted yesterday at 01:24 PM Big key to the game is the Mahaffeys. I say it every time we face Kent or Miami. They are the big disrupters, and their athleticism and physicality will continue to mess Kent up like they did before. Chabi did very well the few minutes he played last time against Kent so that will help too. Lyles will need all the help he can get on the interior with Gillespie and now Whaley back as well. Plus, Griffith who had 17 rebounds last game! Just a bonkers number for a bench player even with the terrible shooting. Hope we can set the tone early like we did last game and let the shooters do their thing late to pull away. Quote
zippy5 Posted yesterday at 01:59 PM Report Posted yesterday at 01:59 PM Kent missed a looot of wide open 3s against us. Hopefully they just suck at shooting, but I'm betting they don't shoot anywhere near 1-23 from 3 again 2 1 Quote

Reslife4Life Posted yesterday at 03:25 PM Report Posted yesterday at 03:25 PM Even though they went 1-23 from deep. Four of those came from Magnus Entenmann, give him as many 3 point looks as possible 😂 1 1 Quote

ZipsFan31 Posted 2 hours ago Report Posted 2 hours ago Game day! This game is always a dog fight. Because Pccc  mucks it up. I imagine both teams shoot better. Last game Gillespie and Lyles were no factors due to constant foul trouble. I think that goes in our favor as if the refs swallow the whistle that hurts us. With Whaley back we have to push the ball and create turnovers. Between Scott, young, Hardman and Johnson we need someone to go 4-5 from three. 2 Quote
kreed5120 Posted 2 hours ago Report Posted 2 hours ago I'll be interested to see if Kent tries to use the press early seeing how badly we struggled with it against UB. Quote

We got complacent and lazy due to comfortability. I don't foresee an unathletic Kent press giving Akron many troubles should they choose to do so. In fact, I think if Kent presses for any lengthy period this game, Akron wins by double digits fairly easily due to all the easy points that will come from the 3 on 2s and 2 on 1s. Edited 1 hour ago by Let'sGoZips94 2 1 Quote

1981 grad Posted 1 hour ago Report Posted 1 hour ago I just bought my ticket for the Kent game on stubhub. I just printed the ticket and I will be sitting with the Kent fans since it is a season holder ticket. I did the same thing about 5 years ago wearing my Akron hat and a Kent season ticket holder told me I was sitting in the wrong section. I told him I was in the right seat. He yelled for the usher to check my ticket. A young college student usher came over and meekly stated he did not want to do this but asked to see my ticket. I showed him my ticket and the usher thanked me. I then suggested that he check the ticket of the guy who complained and we both laughed. Looking forward to tonights game. 2 4 Quote

You're a braver man than me. 2 Quote
