  1. Past hour
  2. I wouldn't be surprised if more fall when the playoffs expand.
  3. We need someone who can successfully coach at a D1 college level and can also successfully recruit at that level with handicaps. The handicaps likely require excellent evaluation of sleepers who wont receive major dollars elsewhere as Joe says happened with Gant this year- difficult job. We have a basketball coach who can evaltuate, recruit, develop players, and coach. I know nothing about softball but it appears to this layman that we have a softball coach who can do those things. We have a women's lacrosse coach who can definitely successfully develop players. We are about to see how good she is with evaluation and recruiting- but the signs are postive. So we know there are people who have the total package and some are at Akron now. Admittedly this is most difficult in the very visuable and money-laden world of college football but that is the task ahead for anyone who takes on the position of Akron football coach be that Moorhead or anyone else. Go Zips!
  4. First of all.... I think Tressel and the Bowdens are WAY more well known than Eddie George to today's student athletes (and parents) and WAY more credible as coaches. You can make your individual comparisons all you want. My point was we had THEM ALL here at one time and f'd it up. Collectively it is not even close.
  5. Tyrell does things at a high school that actively recruits. Same thing was true at Cincinnati Moeller with Faust. Means they can successfully recruit at the high school level- often opposing teams that don't recruit (remember they are not "allowed to recruit"). In Mt Union's case- literally 25% of all male freshmen are football players- most will never see the field- its a numbers game that benefits their overall enrollment- different animal. Recruiting is different at D1 college level where everyone recruits and now including money. Also- can they coach as well as they recruit? The situations are literally apples and oranges. The one doesnt translate to the other in most cases.
  6. I look forward to the day the number of people destitute from gambling addictions is so high the government forgives their debts and makes the responsible citizens pay for the bailout.
  7. Sounds like some "Akron" moves. We've previously hired HC's that did great things at John Carroll and Cincinnati Moeller.
  8. Today
  9. Vince Kehres isn’t coming to Akron. He has the third ranked D in the country. He will either replace Candle or move with him. Or worst case, stay put as D coordinator, if Candle doesn’t move, while entertaining better G6 positions. We could’ve possibly had him after Arth.
  10. i'd like to see Goodrich look at someone local like Kehres or Tyrell. They are doing great things at Mt Union (Toledo) and Hoban. Right?
  11. And I'm not saying George can't do well. Let's just wait until he has success before we praise him for it. We can check back in 2-3 years. Edit: As for Deion Indiana is just as hard, if not harder, to win at than Colorado. Especially since the Big 10 is vastly more competitive compared to the Big 12. The coach that deserves praise for turning a program around is Cignetti. Deion had a heisman winner and is still only 16-19 during his tenure.
  12. You don't earn your 10% cut by sitting on your thumb. 😁
  13. All of these posts from national guys happening the day after the season ended and Franklin gets hired
  14. Going off what?
  15. Joe's agent is hard at work it looks like
  16. I mentioned this a while back, but Louisville contacted an Akron coach regarding a Zips WR that was in the portal last year. They were looking to build "the best scout team possible" and if the kid was deemed a decent MAC-level player they were going to offer him a little cash and a position on it. The Zips can't pay as much for a starting QB as Louisville...not Alabama, but Louisville... can pay for a scout team guy.
  17. I'm stoked to see JoeMo's read-option finally run with a dual threat QB. That's kinda the whole point of the scheme. Finley wasn't keeping too many defenses off balance with his playmaking ability. 😂 But our Dual Threats are only going to be a redshirt freshman & a true freshman, so... yeah.
  18. If he leaves, I think it’ll be to take an OC position in the B1G. I understand the ACC is still considered a Power Four conference, but just barely—they’re more of a hoops conference, and I’m not sure going from HC here to OC at VT would be much of a vertical move considering he's been an OC at bigger programs. Plus, VT just spent $8 million on Sam Levitt. And with the emergence of a very competent AD, I think he stays put.
  19. I would assume neither of those bloggers know the budget issues Joe's dealt with either...
  20. I’m sure there will be many twists and turns until something is announced but there certainly is no shortage of accolades for Joe and speculation about his future on X.
  21. I completely forgot he went to my middle school. He was the class below me!
  22. QB will be by far the biggest factor this offseason
  23. Updated SOS chart
  24. The only problem is that I believe the TV contract does dictate for some of the rivalry games to be played on the weeknight games. But yeah...let's open the schedule with Kent...I'm sure Miami/Ohio and Bowling Green/Toledo (that one sold out Doyt Perry this year) would also like to always keep those games on Saturdays.
  25. And now Deion has set up the departure on his own terms for medical reasons before they totally fall off the cliff back to mediocrity or worse. AD is already out there so another reason he has leave on his own terms vs get fired. Deion came in and he and his sons cashed in from both the University and all the endorsements that went along with it. Brilliant.
  26. one of the MAC bowls bites the dust
