  2. February soccer in Ohio? 🫣 Is this going to hurt our recruiting? I know I wouldn't want to play outdoor soccer in February or most of March.
  3. Today
  4. https://www.beaconjournal.com/story/news/education/2026/05/14/university-of-akron-president-rj-nemer-future-plans/89729820007/ D3 here we come! Athletic facilities Nemer’s campus tour included a drive by the university’s athletic facilities that serve more than 500 student-athletes and spirit teams. Athletics – and the cost to operate them – will be a major focus as Nemer moves into his third year. The recent state performance audit found the university’s already struggling main operating fund covered a $24 million deficit for the athletic department two years ago, which was more than twice the average subsidy of $11.7 million at other Ohio Mid-American Conference schools. Roughly 15% of the $22 million in reductions the university’s board of trustees approved for this academic year were to come from the athletic department, according to the audit. The university has hired Huron Consulting Group to help develop a specific strategic plan for the athletics department. Nemer has pledged to raise athletic revenues and donor support as well as reduce the department's costs. But he said the reductions will not destroy what he calls a powerful brand engine that raises the university’s visibility and brings students, alumni and fans together. Bisconti said the faculty still has had “some ups and downs” with Nemer. She hopes he will continue to engage with campus leaders through the shared governance framework and continue to improve communication with faculty, which has been an issue with nearly every president. Faculty is also waiting to see how Nemer will address the university’s athletic spending, a primary source of frustration as more than 100 faculty positions have been reduced since 2020. “We’ve been hearing about cuts to athletics or increases in their revenue sharing for 20 years and have yet to see it,” she said.
  5. ...Teams will be allowed to play 18 matches from late August until the Saturday before Thanksgiving and up to 10 matches from mid-February until the start of the NCAA Tournament. Specific dates for the postseason will be determined later. ... I guess I hadn't really thought too much about the actual schedule possibilities with 2 semester soccer. looking at the 2027-28 calendar, 14-15 regular season games seem possible without midweek games in Fall 2027; 7-8 seem possible in the Spring with the NCAAT starting no later than the 2nd weekend in April to complete in early May August: 2-3 Saturdays (3 if mid; 2 if late August) September: 4 Saturdays October: 5 Saturdays November: 3 Saturdays (prior to Thanksgiving) February: 3 Saturdays March: 4 Saturdays April: 1 Saturday The article doesn't mention when the NCAAT would begin, but to complete by early May, it seems it would have to start in early April

  7. Yeah, i do the same and it's how I get almost all of my Zips gear. Usually either new or gently used. And usually about half the price of what it would retail for.
  8. I have a saved eBay search for "Akron Zips Nike" that I check out every week or so. It's my go-to for all my Zips gear now. Tons of team issued stuff shows up on there. I'm assuming it's all surplus that the players and coaches didn't need. But I have gotten an awesome Zips Football hoodie, a game worn football jersey, Akron/LBJ basketball quarter zip and two other Akron Nike pullovers. All came brand new with tags and everything.
  9. Yeah, it seems like if you're gonna do two semesters, you should stop like around Halloween. Split it up a little more evenly. I don't know, I guess we'll get used to it after a couple years.
  10. It’s not like our later season home games are that well attended anyway
  11. Here is an ESPN article about the change they make the change for men's soccer. But women's soccer stays the same??? https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_/id/48761056/ncaa-mens-college-soccer-d1-schedule-change-fall-spring
  12. up to 18 games in the Fall and up to 10 in the Spring is moronic. I thought the reason for the Fall/Spring season was so teams didn’t have to play midweek games. 18-20 game regular season could be better accommodated over 2 semesters.
  13. NCAA is run by morons
  14. Starting in 2027 the season will be a fall/spring season. Fall 2027, teams will be able to play up to 18 games. Spring 2028, up to 10, with the tournament on the back end of that.
  15. So in 2027 soccer will be two semester sport. I'm sure there will be big crowds in February.
  16. Looks like it's that time of the year where I have to start keeping a tentative schedule until the official schedule is announced.
  17. Wake Forest will play at Akron on August 28th. https://godeacs.com/sports/mens-soccer/schedule
  18. The Creighton Blue Jays will be playing at Akron on October 11. https://gocreighton.com/news/2026/5/11/mens-soccer-unveils-2026-schedule
  19. Some team-issued gear being sold on ebay from a seller in Akron. Guessing he had some sort of contact with the program. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?sid=330cfbplug&_pgn=1&isRefine=true&_trksid=p4429486.m2548.l49496
  20. Those highlights certainly exist. Roughly half of his FGA in his collegiate career have been 3s.
  21. Strong left hand dribble! Odd to see a small guy film with no 3-point highlights.
  22. I think he’s too good of an athlete to not be a scholarship addition. Reminds me of Jacob Harris from Bowling Green that scored on us last year and is now at Wisconsin. We were sitting with three tight ends, which is hard to see us going into the season with that few when the offense uses 11 personnel so much. We had four last year until Witherspoon officially slid over to receiver. If I’m not mistaken, there’s one scholarship left to give. Assuming that’s correct, it’ll probably go to DL or LB.
  23. Trapp knew where his pass was going before the ball was even played to him.
  24. Last week
  25. I'm assuming he is a preferred walk-on as we don't necessarily need help at his position. I'm hoping we are having our last three scholarships for the DL or OL. Any thoughts?
