Increasing JAR Attendance/Engaging the Fans
Zips1991 replied to clarkwgriswold's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I think people have honestly just gotten tired of beating a dead horse. Should we have better attendance? Yes. Are there things can be done about it? To an extent, yes. Is it going to be solved overnight? No. -
… Austin FC selected Dobrijevic in the second round of the MLS SuperDraft 2026 with the 47th overall pick. The Uniontown, Ohio native appeared in 76 matches for the University of Akron during his collegiate career. He contributed 15 goals across four (4) seasons with Akron, including eight (8) goals and 12 assists in 21 matches as a senior in 2025, helping the Zips reach the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Tournament. He was named the Big East Offensive Player of the Year, to the All-Big East First Team and Big East All-Tournament Team, the United Soccer Coaches All-East Region Team, and a United Soccer Coaches First-Team Scholar All-America honoree. …

I am honestly very surprised this thread has not been brought up this whole basketball season -

If Princeton and James Madison were better, then we'd have probably lost to them like we did Murray State and Yale.
-
I've sat there for Cavs games, that's an awesome deal. Those seats are like La-Z Boys
-
"Poor" Houston basketball. They've only got about $4.3M to buy their basketball players.
-
This game comes down to shooting. Can we shoot well on the road. Sharron seems to be coming on late.hopefully Bowen stays hot! Something I found interesting is they also have a brother duo. Theirs are red head guards who shoot the 3 decent. Looks to be their starting PG and SG
-
Today's landscape doesn't allow for these types of parameters. Princeton and James Madison are the perfect example. Akron's OOC should've been much better than it has turned out to be because of those 2.

Personally I believe the NCAA should step in on non-conference basketball scheduling. Example: Dictate Top 50 NET/Kenpom teams over the previous 3 years (avg.) must play 8 of 10 non-con games vs. teams with avg. NET/Kenpom ranking no worse than 200 over the previous 3 years. It should crack the door open a little bit for those avg. 75-150 NET/Kenpom teams to get at least one or two P5 caliber games. Top 51-100 avg. NET/Kenpom (3 years) teams must play 8 of 10 non-con games vs. teams no worse than 250 (3 years). These P5 teams playing 6-8 SWAC/MEAC/Ivy/NEC games to avoid upsets and pad their records must be addressed - along with helping solid mid-majors get at least one or two quality games, even if they're on the road. While most of the Top 20 Kenpom have strong non-con SOS, of the 30 teams from 21-50, a whopping 15 of them have non-com SOS of 200 or higher. Those are the teams that need to play much tougher non-con schedules. Only 7 teams 21-50 had non-con SOS below 100.

A former low-level NBA player is trying to return to college to play. I doubt he'd have an interest if he wasnt being paid and no surprise that's it's for-profit Grand Canyon "University" that's attempting to do it. If you can't make it in the NBA go back to college to make your money. 🤮

Received an email from Angela and this offer caught my eye so figured I'd share. With tickets, 2-3 beers, and a meal you'd be spending close to $99/person anyway. I've also had club seats for Cavs game in the past and thought they were fantastic. I've already reached out to get tickets.

Modelo vs Corona? I like them both and not sure which I like better. The Corona palm tree Christmas ad is Classic that much I know.

Buffalo, Ohio, Toledo, and Kent in a 4 game stretch..not only going undefeated but winning by an average of 16.75 points is pretty impressive. MAC-C is going to be fun this year if Miami and us keep taking care of business.

No 1 selling beer in the USA?

I see Toledo...but I read Todelo. And I really hate Todelo.
-
Went and looked at the play-by-play for the last 9 minutes of that game and it was brutal for Toledo and TK. When Kent cut the score down to 69-66 around the 2-minute mark, most coaches would call a TO to get a quality shot or at least the ball in a key players hands. Not TK ... then Toledo turned it over, allowing Kent to tie the score. NOW TK calls a TO, with a minute to play ... Rockets have the full shot-clock to get a quality possession/shot. Nope. Turnover, shot-clock violation. (Really!!!!) Kent goes on to win it. No wonder TK was complaining about Kent's celebration. In the old days, when there was true media around, TK would have some real 'splaining to do. Brutal ...

Class of '26 Verbal Commits and Offers/Discussion
ZippyDoo replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
@zipsfb posted on Instagram today. A picture of football players added to the zip's team and said that there are 26 players added to the new spring roster doesn't say if they are scholarship players only or if it includes walk on players, but it does say that there are 26 new players added to the team. -
I hate these probablility charts ever since somebody posted on our board that we had a 96% probabiity of beating UCLA with about 4 minutes left in the game for our first NCAA victory. When I saw that post, I knew it was the kiss of death. And we all know what happened in that game.

The P6 aren't necessarily why I would tweak the schedule in this manner. It's the mid majors that would be the focus and if they were smart, they'd all come together to make this change. If they could open up 4-5 dates in January/February that allows for flex games based on a mutual agreement among several conferences to match up similarly ranked (NET) schools, that would be incredibly beneficial for all parties.

Spring 2026 - Recruits and Schedule
Zips1991 replied to Zip_ME87's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Interesting note from coach Nanchoff earlier, but don't feel it needs a new thread. It appears 70% of soccer season ticket revenue will be used for their ACE Fund. That should help boost recruiting. -
Despite the difference the road trip has been historically difficult for our teams so I hope we can over come
-
I underestimated how much better the MAC is this year compared to the Sun Belt. Seven top 200 teams compared to 4.
-
Updated NETs going into Saturday now that the MAC and Sun Belt have finished their first games of the week. These games could be the difference between a Q4 result becoming a Q3 for a Q3 becoming a Q2 for Akron. Every win helps! For teams like Buffalo and BG it's a chance to try move up one more time and get into the NIT now that has it has basically become a mid-major tournament. Eastern Michigan (208) at App State (178) Bowling Green (128) at Arkansas State (168) UMass (186) at Coastal Carolina (227) Northern Illinois (303) at Georgia State (269) Toledo (163) at James Madison (231) Central Michigan (300) at Louisiana (313) Ball State (319) at ULM (356) Miami (50) at Marshall (137) Ohio (207) at Old Dominion (268) Buffalo (167) at South Alabama (201) Kent State (138) at Southern Miss (238) Western Michigan (281) at Texas State (257) Akron (54) at Troy (132)

I keep mentioning this idea because it makes too much sense to me and it would give you some of what you’re looking for. And that is to require every team to play a game against an opponent from each quad home and away. Some could be scheduled early based on pre-season expectations and then some games late during conference play based on live results. I realize it won’t happen because of money and the fact that the NCAA is just a tool of the big conferences. I still think it would make the NET more fair.
