I would love to see him get the job. I don't think he'd fail...he's just too football-smart, and driven. Joe Moorhead wanted the Zips job seven years ago, but UA hired Bowden instead. That Moorhead chose Getsy as his OC at Mississippi State tells you all you need to know. I got to know his parents a little during his stint at Akron. Fantastic people. A great football family. The thing that stood out to me about Luke was - he always conducted himself as an absolute "pro." He never said a bad word about any of his teammates after a game. He's very analytical. I remember at one scrimmage Chev Pace hit him late on a blitz, even though, as the QB, he was wearing a red shirt. Getsy barked at him, "Chev! That was LATE!" Pace sort of put his tail between his legs and shuffled back to the D side. I probably can't explain in text how an action so simple spoke so much to me about his leadership , but I still remember it 14 years later. Everyone on the team respected him. To me, Luke Getsy is classy, he's a pro, he's driven, he's got an incredible football acumen, he's paid his dues and increased his responsibilities at every step through his coaching career, he's got great morals, he's a great leader, he's young and motivated, he knows the area, he's a University of Akron graduate...I don't see how UA could go wrong hiring him. Does he have previous HC experience? No. But if you're at Akron, you need to think outside the box. Hire Luke Getsy.5 points

The weekly free paper here in Santa Barbara, the Independent, has the 2010 Zips on the cover, and a nice article on the upcoming College Cup: https://www.independent.com/news/2018/nov/29/ucsb-prepares-host-its-second-college-cup/ Here's the cover: sbi_cover.pdf3 points

Your 400 (exaggeration) posts about this elite program is 399 posts more than what the MAC Twitter account has made about the Zips soccer accomplishments. In fact, that might even be wrong because I believe the one mention on their Twitter was a retweet. Never apologize for the amount of posts, especially from a position of enthusiasm about a program that is one of the best in the country for the past decade+.2 points

It's a nice rule for the players, no doubt. If the NCAA really wanted to move the needle in parity they could reduce the max number of scholarships from 85 to something like 80. That would instantly take 320 scholarships off of P5 squads and instantly add them to G5 teams. Even a reduction of 2-3 scholarships would help. It would never happen though.2 points

I'm going to watch the updates on ESPN and if we are winning turn on French and Dunn. Listening to French when the Zips are losing is unbearable.1 point

If you're headed to SB County, my friend in Santa Ynez Valley posted on FB that there was snow in Buellton (famous from the film Sideways) on Tuesday. But temps should be up to the mid 60s over the weekend and sunny. Lows in the low 40s. Perfect weather!!!1 point

I'm thinking next years roster has the potential to really close that gap on Buffalo. Eventually, our bigs will get their act together and this will feel like a completely different team.1 point

I like to get on the MAC, too when they deserve it. However, they have actually been very supportive, on twitter, of this Zips Men's Soccer run to the College Cup. The MAC twitter also retweeted a number of @ZipsMSoc tweets as the Zips advanced in this NCAA Tournament.1 point

Hey they work hard for that subscription and I accidentally paid. For a full year I would of been happy to summarize it. Hope zipsnation is well.1 point

Yes. Looking back I remember when Buffalo fired Witherspoon and everyone thought why? He's doing an ok job for a Mac coach. But their AD laid it down that Buffalo wanted more and were ready to take the bold move. And now they are shining in football and men's and women's BB. Akron has hung on to a few coaches a year or two too long. Warning signs were there but then an occasional big win or a Mac division championship would come along and all was forgiven. Now women's BB is in a hole and Men's BB is going to take a few years to even dream of being at BUs level. Football might make the fastest turnaround. Anyway...late night pondering.1 point

Posting too much?!! How can one post too much positive stuff about the team he loves?!! Keep up the great work @TennZip Remember, FAN is short for FANATIC! I've been too busy with work the last few days, especially on travel. So, I greatly appreciate everything you've posted here to keep all of us informed. Heading to LA from Albuquerque tomorrow. Planning to be in Goleta/Santa Barbara on Thursday. Hope to see our team, let them know I'm there, others are coming and that many more are supporting and cheering for them back home. (I'm sure they know, but it doesn't hurt to reiterate to them how much support they have.) GO ZIPS!!!1 point

I guess I should have clarified better. Before him, the previous coach won at least 9 games in their last 2 seasons, where Arth won 3 games and then 6 games. Going from 3 to 6 is obviously a good sign, but I wonder where there was such a drop off in his first year taking over. Many members of the board will like this - when first hired at UT-C, he had only 2 months to put together a recruiting class. It ended up being one of the top in the FCS and the highest rated in the Southern conference.1 point

Opening line has the Zips giving the mighty Mastodons 3.5 point tomorrow. A road win is hardly a gimme, so I hope the guys are focused. Would also love to see Riak back.1 point

I apologize for posting too much....I am just excited about what this team has accomplished I know that it is popular on this board to bash the hometown newspaper.... But, I think that the Beacon has done a great job of covering the team this year....and I think that Marla Ridenour is a very good writer https://www.ohio.com/sports/20181204/college-cup-zips-find-belief-in-system-each-other-to-recover-from-6-6-2-start1 point

Excellent article from the Massilon Independent https://www.indeonline.com/sports/20181203/akrons-latest-college-cup-soccer-run-has-been-its-toughest “Sometimes things just take time,” Embick said. “I remember saying at the beginning of the year this may be a bumpy ride, we may be inconsistent, but if people give us time and stick with us, I think we can be pretty good at the end of the year.”1 point

I think we're waaaaaay behind in making the obligatory reference to Wayne State's Paul Winters as a candidate. He's been mentioned in every other Zips football coaching search for the last 20 years. I'd hate to see him left out now. LOL.1 point

One thing that I think the MAC owes this Zips Men's Soccer team is a Coach of the Year award or some special recognition award for Head Coach Jared Embick. 3 College Cup appearances in 4 years, and not one MAC Coach of the Year award?! What???!!!0 points
