  1. Wilkins nickname should be squeezy not squeaky, from squeezing into his uni.

  2. 3rd quarter or 2nd half? I prefer 4 quarters to 2 halves; gives the teams an extra timeout & 2 more chances per game for fun & momentum-swinging buzzer-beaters. P.s. I’m not trying be a smart ass, I know the NCAA was tossing around the possibility of going w/ 4 quarters & maybe this strange COVID year is giving conferences some flexibility?

  3. We better enjoy watching him this season then. I can't see him coming back when he's got a family to feed.

  4. I like Dawsons energy on defense and he made a nice layup. I would like to see him out there more with that type of energy on defense. Glad to see the Zips pushing the ball inside.

  5. I like the 8 team thing but I also like byes for the best regular season teams, which is taken away with an 8 team tourney. So it makes the regular season more meaningful, and then it kinda doesn't.

  6. Just spit balling here, but the SEC likes to cram in some cupcake opponents in November. If we forfeit the MAC games, can we make $10M+ traveling the Southeastern Conference for weekly ass whoopings?

  7. I'd say that UA's chances of hiring a high school coach are increased by the fact that they're likely to have a high school budget for any hire.

  8. KD would've take him out after the steal/layup. Gotta stick to the rotations.

  10. In the double bonus the rest of the way. Attack the basket and keep going to the free throw line.

  13. WMU is also down 5 guys (including their 1st and 2nd string PG) and they suck. We are also a deep team. I expect us to pull this one out.

  14. I don't normally rationalize, but they played Sat, Tues, Thurs and a bus ride to Kalamazoo. and WMU has fresh legs. Zips can beat any team in the MAC. Stay in the top 8 and get to Cleveland. Just don't want to be stuck in a tiebreaker with any of these teams

  15. We need better options outside of the 3 ball

  16. We'd better wake the hell up in the 2nd half. Tolliver getting the rebound on that free throw in the middle of 4 Zips was embarrassing.

  17. Second half. Brain fart by Clarkie!

  18. The only thing this team is missing on offense is a slasher type besides LCJ like Cheese that can get to the rim, imo. Hopefully Dailey or Tribble can develop into something similar. Think the offense is a little too perimeter based at the moment.

  19. I wouldn't mind getting an early lead and letting Clarke run the offense a bit with Dailey on the floor. Let some non-LCJ chemistry build and force Dailey to take on more of a leadership role. I REALLY wouldn't mind seeing Currie, Aziz, Dawson, Wynn, and Clarke on the floor late (assuming we're up double digits).

  21. I try not to get to into this cause we are not there everyday, we don’t see everything that goes into being a D1 football player. It’s about 16 hours a day and I’m sure coaches have there reasoning but both Wolfley & Meeks came to us as linebackers and was converted to TE because we didn’t have any, especially with Booker not wanting to play college football. Morris was made a safety at Indiana, I believe because he isn’t a WR, and Boogie I think this staff figured him out. He isn’t a WR, they tried, they loved his work ethic & he was the focus in the slot but ultimately he is a RB, great HS career at running back & is good with ball once he has it but struggles to create separation at WR. I hope Dre is dedicated, I think with Dre & Mathison in the slots, Dollard at RB if they find some consistency at outside WR & a QB with our Oline hopefully continuing to grow our offense could be pretty dam good but it won’t matter if our defense doesn’t get some talent. Especially dline, I’ve been saying it since I got on here in 2017. You have to have good dline to have good defense, they keep the lineman off LB’s & get pressure on QB’s to help the DB’s & we have been awful at dline

  23. Boogie in Arth's first year was used in the slot, like Bowden, and had approx 4x the yards he had under Bowden.I thought he was an okay 3rd down/spell back for Dollard this year. He may have ended up with more yards rushing than he had receiving last year if we played a full season. Fine in both roles, but not a star in either. Boogie took a move for the team and I commend him for that...yes it may or may not have been his best/natural position (though he was a RB in high school). Morris never played once under Arth. He was out all of 2019 with an injury and entered the portal prior to the start of 2020 season. I don't know how Stewart was utilized incorrect. He was on the outside, same as he was with Bowden and I don't think anyone would disagree with him being there. I can concede QB play affected his stats, but can't really think of a time he made a play after catching the ball. He was a prototypical "possession receiver". Wolfley was also used in the same manner as Bowden as an H-Back type with the random route thrown in(and hurt seemingly every other play). I remember him being talked up under Bowden but it never materialized into anything. Dylan was a straight special teams player under Bowden. Had 5 tackles in his first 2 seasons. Had 47 in one season under Arth at DL. He was around an average MAC player, maybe LB would have been a better position, but it seems like splitting hairs. Chances are he won't be anything more than a special teams player at Florida so we'll never know. Most of this isn't opinion..its fact. How do you think these players named should have been used? One of Arth's former assistants is now a NFL head coach. Many of his assistants in his short 2 year period here have already moved on to better opportunities. He is reportedly being targeted for a NFL job. The proof seems to be there that he is a pretty good coach and other CFB/NFL programs see value in his assistants.Trust the process, or at least let it play out before determining if this is a success or failure. We want long term success (I hope) and that will likely take patience.

  24. Actually, if you take the kids out who have decided to stay since Bowden was hired at ULM, Akron has more than ULM, despite a coaching change.

  25. I think Tyrrell is ready to be a MAC OC. His play calling is exceptional. You never know what he is going to do (In other words the complete opposite of Milwee, had to get that dig in, he has left so many scars on my brain). I've seen a dozen games of coach Tyrrell and he has yet to be second best in anything.

  26. You're on to something here. There is a saying in sailing that goes like this...."The faster you go, the faster you go." When a sail is lifted and fills with air, the boat begins to move. It's a whole physics thing, but the movement of the boat causes other accelerating pressures on the sail that causes the boat to go faster. You go faster because you are going faster. This is not infinite. The teams you mention win because they win. The more they win, the more they win. The more they win at this point, the more they solidify their positions at the tops of their conferences and the college football world because they get the best players. What does this have to do with recruiting? Imagine being a 5 star defensive line recruit and the coach from Indiana comes to your home and tells you, you will immediately be the best defensive lineman on the team the coming fall. Sounds pretty good doesn't it? How could this story get better for the kid? The OSU/Clemson/Alabama coach comes to your home and tells you that you will have significant playing time in the fall. In addition, there will be another 5 star defensive lineman next to you on the defensive line and a 5 star linebacker right behind you. Unlike Indiana, where you will get double teamed every play, you will never get double teamed at OSU/C/Al and you will make a ton of tackles, win conference championships, compete for national championships and produce a ton of plays that will be on video and shipped off to NFL teams before the draft making you a high round draft pick after your JR year. That's how they win. Not the sailing, but the rest of the ideas above I heard listening to Rick Neuheisel on ESPNU Radio. He is worth listening to during college football season because he is just so freaking smart. He is a kind of "lens of clarity" about all things college football that makes you more informed but less enamored by the sport because he lays things out as they really are and not, as fans, the way we want them to be.

  27. In college athletics recruiting is just as important, if not more so, than being an X's and O's coach. There is a reason that programs like Alabama, Clemson, and OSU are always there competing for national championships every year. They consistently are the teams that recruit the best year in and year out therefore they outmatch their opponent at nearly every single position. It's also why so many great college coaches go to pro sports and don't succeed (Saban, Calipara, Pitino, Spurrier, Butch Davis, etc.). At the pro level talent is spread more evenly and you can't hand pick your players so being a good X's and O's coach becomes more important in gaining an edge. Not to say Akron needs to become an OSU or Bama, but we need to start recruiting and developing talent if we want to compete and win the MAC. There are no GMs in college football so failure to attract the talent you need to succeed falls squarely on the head of the head coach.
