  3. Fewer minutes again tonight, down to 13. Dawson and Wynn are taking those minutes. They're dwindling- minutes in his last 6 games- 25, 22, 24, 19, 18, 13.

  4. I think I typed that when we were up 13. Then Kent goes on to cut it to, what, 6? Yeah, I'm kinda pissed. Oh, well. We won. I suppose Groce is spoiling me.

  5. There is no way we should have let them get that close. I loved the tweet (not sure who tweeted that) that indicated Dakich talked more about Bowling Green than Kent and Akron Surprised he would read that on the air. I hope I never hear that guy again. Worst annoucer ever!!

  7. Well, the OU game this Tuesday has gone down to Covid so we'll have to wait until Friday for the Miami game in Oxford. The Redhawks are coming off of a two game losing streak, falling to PCCC at Brimfield and Buffalo in Ontario. They are 8-7 overall and 5-5 in the MAC. They had actually started to come around before those losses having won 4 of 5 going into Streetsboro. 6'2" sophomore guard Dae Dae Grant leads the Fredmen at 13.7 ppg. 6'7" senior forward Dalonte Brown scores 12.2 ppg while leading the team in rebounds at 6.7 rpg. Their leading scorer from the last couple of seasons transferred to Pitt in the off-season.

  10. On a Saturday when coincidentally all bottom three MAC women's teams threatened upsets, only the Zips hold on pull out an 89-84 win in OT at Muncie. Key was a 29-12 3Q to take the lead. ?

  11. I personally don’t think it’s necessarily about the stars, if they get the stars they probably athletically deserve them, but doesn’t mean they can handle 16 hour days of classes, practices, lifts, films, study tables, doesn’t mean they can take coaching or work well with others. Just my opinion

  13. It sounded like the two announcers don't much care for each other. A couple times last night I found it a little awkward. It was an embarrassing effort at a broadcast.

  16. What a game. So much to comment on. My new hero is Willie Coleman of our Alumni office for taking Dan Dakich to task for seemingly only talking about his time at BG while analyzing the Akron-Kent game. Well done Willie! I thought it was crude of Dakich to call out Pippen repeatedly for poor play. He made it personal and college kids don't deserve that. Be objective and let his play speak for itself. I did not join the chorus of concerns over LCJ's play against Toledo. Not because I didn't agree, but because there was too much angst. In the second half he reverted to his poor Toledo performance. He started looking only for himself and repeatedly drove the lane, with no openings, and turnovers resulted. When the team stops moving and looks to LCJ to do something we can be beat. When everyone is moving we are damn near unstoppable. Wynn has earned the right to start. Groce is a pleasure to watch. He is always prepared and rarely, if ever, outreached. If we have issues he will solve them.

  17. One last thing on this one. I was thinking about the few times Akron has won there over the last few years and noticed now 3 out of the last 4 wins at Kent came after losses. 2012 lost to Buffalo at home, 2017 lost to Miami at home, 2021 lost at Toledo. Mildly interesting.

  19. Obviously got a little too close for comfort towards the end, but we really out-willed Kent tonight. Love to see it. Still feel confident in our MAC-C chances. My prediction about Freeman when we got to conference play was clearly wrong..he is a factor in every game. Go Zips!

  20. Good win ... on a night Zips should have won. Still think there's something missing in the overall scheme of things, but the 3-pointers cover up a lot of warts. Depending on how the rest of their season goes, not sure Zips want to see Kent again until the end. Even with their two guys out (Nuga-Hamilton combined 28 pts, 12 rebs) they still got some pieces if they can regroup. On a personal note, considering the state of our union these days, would think using derogatory terms to describe opposing players should be discontinued. Rivalries are great, but it seems sometimes those terms are used against the opposition more freely than they should be. (Off soapbox). Back to Akron, like many, thought Dailey would find his level in the MAC but that just has not been the case. Freeman has been a blessing in a league shy of quality bigs. Perhaps Groce should try to get a tad more offense out of him. On to the next one.

  21. We need to plant Maishe on the bench. Idk how he's starting over Dawson or getting minutes over Marshall.

  31. I really don't think Akron is playing that well but Kent looks terrible. Their bad shooting cannot last all night. Akron has missed a lot of easy shots close to the basket. LCJ has had some great penetration and dish to open players. The wild card in this game is Trimble is on a hot shooting night. He has probably made 4 or 5 threes and some from real distance. I love Freemans defense. He is really a rim protector tonight. Lets hope Kent stays cold the 2nd half and Trimble keeps his hot hand.

  32. Freeman has 4-5 blocks and numerous rebounds and I have yet to hear his name once. If your going to announce the game, spend 10 minutes reading something about the players!!!!!

  36. 2017 was David Egbo's freshman campaign, in which he he registered 1g and 4a. I am betting the OVER on Jason Shokalook's 2021 freshman season production. Mind you, I am not claiming that Shokalook is superior player to Egbo. I already miss David. I am just saying that TDS is quite aware of Shokalook and his impact. You should take note (and take heart) as well.

  37. "https://www.ncsasports.org/coronavirus-sports/ncaa-eligibility-coronavirus" I'm not familiar with this website - but assume they're not pulling stuff out of thin air - so it sounds like there will indeed be a H.S. recruiting logjam with players slipping down the food chain of where they otherwise might go. Which would imply that any Zips not performing up to expectations might be shown the transfer vortex and replaced with talented H.S. seniors we might not otherwise be able to get.

  39. Another reminder of why it is so hard to follow. Two things. First, given how much money OSU and Auburn make, we are being grossly underpaid. This is a symbol of athletic director incompetence. Second, when the conversation becomes money vs putting on an event where students, alumni, fans and the general Akron community can enjoy a game, and money wins, I'm not interested.

  41. A lot of schools are hurting financially because of covid. Schools like OSU could certainly offer additional scholarships a crossed all sports and that would give them an even bigger competitive advantage compared to schools like us that are struggling to keep the lights on.
