I hope this means we have more money to pay for and keep good assistant coaches.3 points

Can't imagine going home and telling my wife we'd be moving from Oregon to Akron to make $500,000 less every year. Pretty sure I'd be moving by myself. 😂3 points

I have talked about how I've seen other schools around the MAC have to look for a new coach after theirs have moved on to a bigger school. We fire our coaches. I would love to replace a coach because he is moving on to a bigger opportunity. That would mean we are winning and having fun. That said... I hope Coach Moorhead is here for the long haul while we are winning and having fun.3 points

• Favorite part, the play call and formation from the TD pass that won Akron the MAC Championship • Second, knowing how important it is to beat your rival (coach Bowden did the same) • Third, saying "Go Zips!" You can tell he is a genuine Zips fan • Fourth, mentioning coaching the bowl game and saying "I'm doing it because it's the right thing to do" • Mentioning Monetary as the third reason for coming here behind Personal, and Professional reasons Well done. Homerun imo.3 points

Best press conference I've ever seen for an Akron football coach, and it isn't even close! Guthrie mentioned the alignment of the higher ups, and Moorhead mentioned that as a good reason to come home as well. I'm so excited, this is what it feels like to have real potential!!! Coach described the entire game winner of the 2005 championship and made it clear the value of the Wagon Wheel. He had a ton of family on hand. He was visibly emotional and excited. This is our time!!!!3 points

Wagon Wheel, Bowl Games, MAC Titles, Recruiting Class Rank within the MAC, etc. Those are my guesses, on top of any other non-obvious incentives. $500k for Moorhead is incredibly University-and-program-friendly. I'd imagine the plan is to allocate any additional funds to his assistants (he's clearly building one heck of a coaching staff) and the recruiting budget. Zips fans owe Moorhead their attendance and attention for wanting to come to Akron, and not raking Akron over the coals to get a HC with his experience.2 points

Could we see Paul Rhoads join the staff as Defensive Coordinator….. Coach Moorhead mentioned him in the press conference. Currently Coach Rhoads is a defensive analyst at Ohio State.2 points

We shall see.. but it does sound like as long as his son is in college an hour away he isn’t going anywhere and who knows maybe his son then becomes a Zip for another four years.2 points

That was awesome. I've rewatched that play 1,000 times but never heard it broken down like that! 💪💪2 points

I can honestly say I've never heard him speak before, but I completely agree. Seems like an awesome leader.2 points

Happy to see United Soccer Coaches give Danny the recognition he deserves even though the MAC did not.2 points

Moorhead taking less money and lining up incentives is also an indicator of his confidence they will be successful.1 point

The crown jewel would be a New Year's bowl invite for being the best G5 team. Last MAC team to get it was WMU in 2016.1 point
-
$50,000 for winning the Mid-American Conference East Division; $100,000 for winning the MAC championship; $50,000 for a bowl appearance; $25,000 for earning MAC coach of the year; and $375,000 for making the College Football Playoff or a New Year's Six bowl game (Rose Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Orange Bowl, Cotton Bowl, Peach Bowl and Fiesta Bowl). If Moorhead leaves for another college job, he will owe the university a buyout of $600,000 (four years remaining on the contract), $500,000 (three years remaining), $400,000 (two years remaining) or $100,000 (one year remaining). If Moorhead leaves for the NFL, he owes Akron $100,00 during the first four years of the contract.1 point

They’re all pretty much the same. The champ used to go to GoDaddy/Dollar General, but there’s not really a specific tie-in anymore. NIU is playing in the Cure Bowl in Orlando against Coastal, which is a pretty cool draw.1 point

You must be a blast at parties. By the way, it takes two to tango. Instead of taking shots at the Athletic Department (for faults of previous administrations, not this current one) for making the hire of the decade(s), maybe thank Joe Moorhead for believing in Akron and wanting to be at Akron enough to take nearly a 50% pay cut.1 point

Paul Rhoads New coordinator coming in, could signal other staff changes?1 point

Very well said, a great analogy and a great lesson about commitment to success. Miami's president basically told the last AD to "go ahead and take care of all of the athletics" and he stopped there. The fan base and donor base seems to have finally broken through that Miami can no longer not try and still be successful, like they did 30 years ago. It's a different day now, and it takes commitment and attention to actually make a difference, and this hire at Akron seems to be birthed from that kind of thinking. This is no Tom Arth, Larry Williams, interim president disaster. Thinking back to how absurd that presser was makes me further realize how doomed that was from the beginning.1 point

Nice presser. The only thing that I think would worry me about JoeMo leaving would be the Pitt or even potentially WVU job opening up - assuming he has the success we all think he can have. Only 3 questions from the media, 1 from GT (which was pointless) was just downright embarrassing, however.1 point
-
It's nice to know he doesn't care much about the money or prestige of a school. He just wants to be a coach and be near his family. Hopefully this means he's here to stay for a long time.1 point

It seemed as though so did Guthrie & JoeMo! Both men's voices were quivering just a bit & seemed very emotional 💪💪💪💪1 point

My favorite part was repeating the play call, and description to the TD pass from Getsy to Hixon. 62 Z poster smash! 🥳1 point

What an awesome press conference by all 3. The President, AD and Coach. Can't confirm or deny that I had a tear in my eye.1 point

On the surface this looks weird with early signing day fast approaching but I think this is a tell. This tells me he his more confident in hitting the transfer portal than trying to keep all the kids that the previous coach recruited. He believes he can get better talent than what was coming. This also allows him to go back to Eugene and tell the kids, look I didn't bail on you like the other coach. I'm here for you guys and for those that want to continue to battle with me, come with me to Akron.1 point

Interesting. Seems like a unique situation where new coach is hired, has a press conference and still goes back to coach in one last game with his former team. Not sure I've ever seen this happen before. But honestly maybe it happens more often with coordinators than I realize? I definitely like this better than having to wait until after the Alamo Bowl to find out he's been hired. Nothing bothers me more than coaches that make teams wait forever for an answer just to change their mind. Pretty sh***y move too for these guys (Kelly, Riley, etc) to bail on their guys before the biggest games of the season. While he's got a lot of work to do in Akron, I commend him for sticking with his guys until the end. Especially since they just lost their HC.1 point

I'd say both are earning time through production. Especially Tribble. He's always played tough defense. But recently he seems to have traded his 3-point shots for aggressive drives to the hole. He's finishing at a higher percentage, drawing fouls, and hitting his FT's. He played great against Southern. What's not to like? There were probably 28-32 game-minutes freed up by KJ's departure, and it seems like Dawson and Tribble have seized them. It's a small post-Florida sample size, but I like the trend.1 point

If Joe can address Irons’ ball security issues, and the Zips OL issues, we would be in good shape with Irons at QB next year. Definitely trust that Joe will bring in a quality veteran qb to compete for the job too.1 point

Certain players in Zips MSOC history are the gold standard at their position by which all who follow are judged. There have been many excellent central defenders in Zips lore, All Americans and NCAA Champions; a few became professional players. None have been as good as Simon Spelling. If you do not understand how dominant he was in the early eighties, you really need to ask some old timers. Remember that Simon was Steve Parker's assistant coach for several excellent squads in the mid to late eighties as well (1986 runner-up). His career coaching at Medina speaks for itself. See above. ZipsNation salutes you, Simon Spelling! We do not forget.1 point

Guess I am rooting for Washington since they have never won it. In fact, Huskies have never before advanced to College Cup. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NCAA_Division_I_Men's_Soccer_Tournament https://gohuskies.com/sports/mens-soccer1 point

There will never be a compete separation. The P5 need the G5 schools to pad their win totals. Against non-P5 schools Maryland was 3-6, but because they were able to pad their win total against "inferior" competition they can sell their fan base on a bowl appearance. With a closed division Maryland would be at the bottom of the food chain and their fanbase will die off as I'm sure many Akron fans can attest winning 0-4 games a year year over year is no fun.1 point
