If it were easy being a die hard Zip fan, everyone would be one. We always have a game on the road where we play like crap and tonight was it. I think the guys were still upset about losing the Kent game. The bad free throw shooting, no movement off the ball, the terrible passing. This was a team effort. Freeman was the only one to play well and he missed 2 crucial free throws down the stretch. Absolutely no rhythm to the offensive flow. Hopefully, they can recover on Thursday and not go into a free fall at the end of the season. Really expected more from everyone on this team.3 points

This is where I'm at as well. This team has exactly one win against the top 1/2 of NCAA NET rankings (home vs 108 Buffalo). We have an inflated record against a very bad MAC. This team has the least talent of any Akron team in the last 15 years, outside of the transition team from Dambrot to Groce. We are in serious trouble if some of the young talent doesn't contribute next season and/or the MAC improves. Edit: that win didn't even count as top half, because UB was below 150 at time of game. 12 of our 14 wins are against the bottom 1/4 of the NCAA.2 points

This has been an ongoing, year-long issue. At this point in the schedule there is no reason (besides wishful thinking) to think that a light bulb will suddenly switch on and that this is going to be resolved this season. I just hope our 4 incoming freshman guards are ready for immediate PT next year.2 points

One thing I like about the small MAC crowds is that you can hear specific things the fans yell.2 points

Great post!! We cannot win without X playing well. If he dishes the ball to Ali on the last possession and Ali makes the 3 I do not believe they would lose to Western. They played their worst game of the season yesterday. I still think this team can advance in Cleveland. Kent beat Toledo at Toledo and the Zips had the opportunity to beat Kent. This team has some offensive weapons. They just took the night off yesterday. Lets see how we do tomorrow.1 point

The year's Zips team is a flawed one. Other than Freeman, who can you bank on? Freeman - double-double every night, brings it on both ends of the floor. Plays within himself. A joy to watch, always. Ali - Too indecisive. He's at his worst when he dribbles too much. If he tries to back someone down in the paint, it's an almost guaranteed turnover. Might score 32...might score 5. Casteneda - shooting 29% over his last 4 games. Formerly a 90% FT shooter, shooting at a 60% clip over his last 7 games. Dawson - Hustles, defends, but he's a role player. Clarke - Slowly improving, but can't be counted for anything other than spot duty night-in-night-out. Aziz - Improving. But still a role-player. Tribble - He's like Dawson, but less of an offensive threat. Wynn - 8 minute per game role player, at best. Trimble - sprinkles a few stellar nights of insane 3-point shooting amongst a sea of highly forgettable 2022 efforts. Not a great defender. Can't create his own shot...just looks to hoist it from 24 feet most of the time. These are the dog days of the MAC schedule. Driving 5 hours in the snow to play a horrible Bronco team, on a Tuesday night, after a bitter home loss to your rival, can't be a party. But that's part of the deal. The championship teams fight through it. Kent, OU and Toledo are better than the Zips this year. But we can beat them on a given night. We could also lose to Duquesne if we played like we did last night. Man, that was one horrible effort in Kalamazoo.1 point

Morehead's stock is rising. Groce is falling. Not sure who Sean Blevins is, but he's addressing some of the issues many of you write about.1 point

Nothing like having to read about....well....let's call it "The Marshall Double Cross" every few years. We (by "We" I mean someone other than me) should start a poll guessing the over/under on the years until their next conference move. We could coin ODU and Southern Mississippi "The Desperate Duo". Someone has to explain to me the importance of the Hattiesburg television market because I must have missed something. Heck, Jackson State has become a more important team in central MS than South Miss. Schools like these three are just filler for desperate conference leaders who are looking to pad their resume and move on to the next opportunity. I know how interesting these conference moves may seem, but when you look at them closely, almost every team moving is acting out of desperation. That's never a good place to be. I'll stick with the MAC.1 point

This is a wild story. The Big 12 schools joining the SEC aren't leaving for a couple of years. Why are Marshall/ODU/Southern Miss bolting so quickly?1 point

What an epic loss. I have allowed time to take myself away from the edge for now. The Zips were fortunate to be in the game with how awful they played. With that said, there’s no reason to lose that game. And every single person in the program deserves blame. I’m not going to get into everyone. But you can’t miss shots at that rate, you can’t pick up a dumb technical, you can’t throw so many horrid CYO passes, you can’t miss free throws down the stretch of the game. What a cluster. At the worst time of the year too. With all of that said, there are still two winnable games that could be huge confidence boosters going into the last part of the season. At this point, every practice and every game needs to be played with Cleveland in mind. One game at a time. As frustrating as this team has been, they have shown great ability and I believe in them. I’m incredibly disappointed in them, but I still believe they are a good MAC team that won’t go down without a fight. Last year, missing one Maishe Dailey kept the team from being truly great. This year, the disappearance of KJ Walton has shown it’s impact a number of times. Still a lot of season left, but looking forward, Groce can’t afford another whiff. This program has way too much talent to be what it is at this point in the season. To make matters worse, Kent swept us and is as hot as any MAC team has been all year. I don’t like how this is shaping out one bit. Come on, John. Give the fans what we deserve. Can’t wait for Thursday, I’m dying to see some hunger from this team. We know it. They know it. Everyone knows how good they can be. Go Zips!1 point

It's the first ugly loss to an awful team but it's another substandard performance against a weak team in a down conference year.1 point

I would say Aziz has something to say about that, but I think he's going to use it for the NBA draft instead 😁1 point

Aziz is having his best game as a Zip. Watching him and Freeman grow together is fun.1 point

Nice first half by Aziz. I like us being in the lead, but a bit cautious as Norman hasn't really gotten going yet.1 point

I'll say this. If you setup a tailgate, I'll be there. Let me know what beer/meat you want, and I'll bring some. I think tailgating for a Spring Game would go a long way to show the excitement and enthusiasm for the program under Moorhead.1 point

Is it a dumb question to ask if people tailgate for the Spring Game? I got some new tailgating stuff I'm really wanting to use LOL.1 point

Just remember that this program had around 70 Freshmen or Redshirt Freshmen last season. I am confident we will see a big jump next year. This staff can develop players too.1 point

Not to mention, given the experience on the coaching staff, it's hard to imagine our staff hasn't had previous contact with some if not all of the above at some point. It's not unfathomable to think we could land one of these guys if we wanted to. I definitely think we'll be adding a transfer QB soon enough, just a matter of who & when, not if.1 point

Because MWC's media deal is worth more than double the MAC's, and the AAC's media deal is worth almost 5x the MAC's. FY 2019 Media Revenue: AAC $43,988,700 Up from 2018 22M and 2017 21M MWC $19,853,461 Up from 2018 14M and 2017 13M CUSA $6,440,156 Down from 2018 4M and up from 2017 3M SBC $3,920,523 Up from 2018 1M* MAC $9,186,590 Up from 2018 8M, but down from 2017 8M Not to mention competition level is a step up in those two conferences.0 points
