I asked Guthrie about our logo change and he said he wanted a new logo in place before opening kickoff for football. Any new logo would be on our new field and in all Zip uni's for next year ('22-'23). If that is the case decisions will be made soon. Wait and see.

Groce on the post-game. Best they've played since Kent; Good start to the game helped set up how the game would go; Defense was strong; Players took ownership; Happy for Wynn, took advantage of his opportunity, his minutes were impactful; Ali coming off of the bench may not last long; misses being able to work on things in real practices; players are used to mixing up lineups/combinations; nothing on Trimble.

Great win by the Zips to sweep the regular season against their arch rivals. The win also solidified their hold on third place as the 3 teams immediately behind them Kent, WMU and Ball State all lost. Zips are now 1.5 game ahead.

My worry was that Trimble's psyche would be crushed with a demotion. Maybe that's happened. There's a role for him if he wants it.

I mentioned this before. If we want the new logo incorporated into the design of the new Info turf, they're going to have to make a decision very soon. I hope it's classy & not too busy (like I think the A-Roo head is.) Hope it looks good on a helmet as well as on a hoodie or polo. Crossing my fingers I'll like it. Can't wait to see it!

We have lost 3 in a row and have only one day rest and a trip to Michigan. In the best of circumstances this would be a tough game. What are the predictions for this game. I am an optimist and I predict a close game but the Zips win and X comes out of his slump and scores in double digits. Zips win by 4. However, I could also see this team playing another lethargic road game and losing in a blowout. Give me your predictions with who wins and by how much. Perfect tip-off time. Middle of the day where I can be busy and forget to watch what could be a repeat of the previous two performances. (Just kidding. I have to watch. I have two girls that need to know the ups and downs of being an Akron fan.)

This game just guaranteed the MAC to be a 1 team entry into the NCAA tournament. Ohio had a small chance at an at large bid with 4 losses if they lost in the MAC tourney (to Akron), but that is blown out of the water. Ohio was ranked 54 in the RPI, and will fall with this loss. However, Toledo was a surprise at 52. No chance at an at large bid for the MAC now.

If we didn't let NIU shoot 60% from the field in the second half we wouldn't have needed for everything to go perfectly for us to win.

The team's ceiling is capped by a lack of talent, and even lower when there's a lack of effort/focus/killer instinct. "Attitude reflects leadership, captain." Groce can only lead so much as a HC on the sideline. This is my frustration with guys like X, Ali, Trimble. They are experienced players with poor leadership on the court. Poor leadership leads to poor attitude, and poor attitude leads to 3 losses in a row, 2 of which are to teams you should be beat by double digits. Trimble doesn't make shots consistently, and is really worthless on the court otherwise; nobody trusts him. His bricks not only deflate the ball, but deflate the morale on the team. X isn't there mentally every play. He consistently drops passes, mishandles the ball, makes bone-headed mistakes, etc. That's not what you want from the "floor general." Ali tries to put the team on his back, but goes about it the wrong way. He can shot create with his dribble-drive ability, but 99.9% of the time only looks to finish the play himself; his head is never up, looking to see who got open during his dribble-drive. I'm not bailing on the season. We can win the MAC. But my enthusiasm is tempered based on the lack of effort from the team these last two games. I'm VERY excited about next season.

I personally think Rocky Lombardi (QB) was the biggest factor in the turnaround. The game at or towards the end of the season when they sat him and got blown out was telling. With that said, Irons has potential. How anyone says he doesn’t is beyond me, he was 13-13 and a TD against a mix of starters and back ups for Auburn. That’s impressive no matter who you are. He obviously needs to take better care of the ball though. Bring in a veteran QB in to compete with him (and as insurance since he is a bit injury prone) and may the best man win.

Thanks for supporting most of my suggestions and adding more details and embellishing the team needs. I am looking at the 2022 Zips as the 2021 Northern Illionois team. The added transfers and went from winless to a top MAC team. Go Zips!!!
