From a late 90's Zips basketball game against Buffalo - Joe Dunn - "Dan, you were down over 20 points for the entire second half, and in the last minute cut it to 2 points. What happened?" Dan Hipsher - "Joe...it's easy to shoot threes when your down 20."5 points

The key word is “replay”. To watch that video and still get it wrong is inexcusable.4 points

Multiple missed layups this game. No matter the result, I'm very happy with what I'm seeing tonight. We will be a force to be reckoned with come March. The missed shots, turnovers, sloppiness, etc., can all be ironed out. The key is do we have the horses in the barn? We do.4 points

Can't complain after this team's first game together. Lots of positives, especially Sharron Young. He probably had the best debut of any Zips true freshman I've ever seen. I hope he is the star we've been waiting for.3 points

That goaltending call was the turning point of the game. Don't know how that wasn't overturned. Didn't hit the rim, wasn't over the cylinder, wasn't on its way down and obviously didn't hit the backboard until it was blocked. Terrible, terrible call.3 points

The announcers are pretty good for homers. Like that they had the stats on nba players drafted out of Akron.3 points

In my college career I’ve had 4 of the craziest season openers Ohio State, both SDSU games and now this one😮💨3 points

Okonkwo is not the offensive threat that Freeman was, at least at the moment, and that has been a major difference in this game. The new guys look quite a bit better than the old guard, in my opinion. Need Nate, Scott, Tavari, and Lyles to pick it up - especially Nate.3 points

Need to get the educational ranking up in order to increase applications/enrollment. It's hard to get the ranking up with budget crises caused by declining enrollment. We're in a bad Catch-22 and yes, we lack corporate support let alone state support. Hopefully Nemer can recognize the issues and formulate a plan of action.3 points

https://fundraise.givesmart.com/vf/Roovember2024 I know that many of my fellow UA alumni are angry and frustrated about the actions and lack of action by UA's Board of Trustees over the years. I am too. However, I still love our university, and I believe that our new President will be a positive force for the future of UA. As well, I have a dog in the fight - my son is a current UA student in mechanical engineering. The Roovember campaign allows us to make specific donations to UA’s schools, departments and projects that directly support current and future UA students, including UA Athletics. This year I chose to support UA's Buchtel College of Arts & Sciences and the College of Engineering & Polymer Science. Thank you2 points

The Ohio taxpayers vote for the clowns in Columbus that appoint the university trustees. They haven't a leg to stand on.2 points

No, it's an institution of Higher Learning, not a Business. And treating educational institutions as if they are businesses is what has led to their decline. I mean, we can equate athletics to this. The amount of debt accepted by the U to expand athletics when you couldn't ever actually be competitive in it (football) is one of the biggest blunders in the history of the University. But it's fine, we'll just continually cut the people who do the real work of the University (educating students) and balancing the budgets on their backs, so administrators can make absurd salaries padding their resumes so they can move onto something more lucrative somewhere else and fund their yachts. It's sick, and the fact that you can even attempt to defend it is sick.2 points

The Battling Bishops (yes, the Battling Bishops) come to the JAR Friday to face the 0-1 Zips. It is the Bishops' first game of the season and listed as an exhibition on their schedule. Ohio Wesleyan is in Delaware, Ohio, the home of the Little Brown Jug harness race. The Bishops were 11-15 last season and 8-8 in the NCAC.1 point

If you really want to feel old, tell me you were at the 2 DII playoff games at the Bowl back in the '70s. Tell me you saw teams that Gordon Larson coached. Those teams won at the level they were playing at. Always at least competitive. They had the talent and coaching to compete at that level. Shoot, Lee Owens was at least competitive when he was here. Had a losing record overall but had some good seasons. JD was able to gather enough talented players to win a MAC championship and beat some legit DI programs. I just don't get not being able to at least be more competitive.1 point

I respectfully disagree. The extra minutes are a lot of wear and tear on our players in a compressed season. We'd likely see more injuries.1 point

When it took them 12 minutes to call-off the bank shot three that clearly occurred after the shot clock buzzer, you knew they weren't going to let another opportunity to help the home team slip through their fingers.1 point

I also think it's pretty easy for a team to let up when they are up 38-7 in the 4th quarter. I like the 23 points from the Zips in the quarter but I don't think it's truly representative of anything.1 point

I'd stick with the current rotation rather than risk damaging Tavari's ego this early in the season. Dustin Ford may have to dust off his old LCJ defensive notes to help him figure out how to minimize Sharron getting taken advantage of when he's on defense. He was getting pushed around quite a bit last night. Don't get me wrong, I think he's a great talent. I just hope we can tie him down for 4 years.1 point

Not an idealistic finish but Akron showed promise & fight. I think they'll be a force going forward.1 point

If the replay officiating at other SBC venues was anything like I saw last night in Arkansas I can understand why MAC teams were sub-.500.1 point

Zips showed some heart. I knew they were in trouble as it was a game of runs and the Zips had their run to finish the game. Ohio Wesleyan has to be worried.1 point

Given how Shammah had actually performed at the hoop tonight, unlike last season, I have no problem with the play.1 point

We are losing the rebounding war and not shooting the ball well but we have a lot of talent on this team. Really see improvement with Lyles, looks quicker and leaner. Tavari looks good and Young has played well. If we shoot better in the 2nd half we should make this a close game.1 point

I like Lyles taking shots 2 feet from the basket a lot more than 23 feet.1 point

Some defensive lapses by the Zips. They're going to need some serious minutes out of Lyles this year.1 point

Tavari has already made 4 great passes pushing the ball up the floor along with one turnover. I really hope he is our point guard this year who can lead this team.1 point

Bump for update. McCoy ranks 3rd in the MAC and 6th nationally in total tackles. Kapongo is 2nd in the MAC and 10th nationally for tackles amongst DTs. Moore is 3rd in the MAC and 26th nationally for tackles amongst DTs. Finley is 2nd in the MAC and 41st nationally in passing yards. Norton is 4th in the MAC and 31st nationally in receiving yards.1 point
