  1. Through two conference games and ~half the season, here are the team stats for the conference. I also used TeamRankings to put the numbers into a national perspective. Some of the data is a bit different, presumably due to ESPN counting different non-DI games vs. TeamRankings (looking at you, CMU, and your dumb 4 non DI games). Some interesting observations... - Akron & Miami OH are the two best offenses in the conference. Akron's is based on volume, while Miami is a bit more efficient. Akron, Miami OH, and Ohio are the only 3 schools in the top 100 for PPG, so OU could be included in this discussion based on that metric. - Conversely, Kent is the worst offense in the MAC. They are last in PPG, FG%, and 3P%. They are the only team not averaging 70+ ppg, under 40% FG%, and one of two teams under 30% for 3P%. - There are 4 teams in the top 100 for 3PA per game. Kent, Ohio, Miami OH, and Akron, with Akron being 4th in the country. - Unless I missed a school, there are 5 MAC teams in the top 100 for FGA per game. Toledo, Miami, Kent, WMU, and Akron, with Akron being 4th in the country. - Akron is the only team in the top 100 in the country for 3P%. - Akron leads the MAC in RPG and the only MAC school with 40+ RPG. This is largely volume-based considering our pace of play, but still good to know we're crashing the boards. We are 45th in the country in Off. RPG.

  2. The surprise stat of the night has to be that the 18 made threes was five short of the number of times Reghi said “respite”.

  3. What a great night at the jar! One might say we were “on fire” The limited student section was great. Time to take care of business at EMU

  5. Congrats to NIU for their current Kenpom ranking of 354 this morning! They are even ranked below perennial bottom 10 powerhouse IU Indy (IUPUI) Umass is currently sitting at 223, 6 spots below CMU

  6. Fans and alumni I've seen various places on the internet seem thrilled. This isn't a situation like UMass where the basketball fans are pissed because they got demoted that way football could be given a lifeline. Football is the only sport that matters to NIU. They will likely take their other sports to the Horizon, which will be even less travel for them compared to what they were doing in the MAC before. All of this is probably why NIU jumped at the invitation while Toledo has appeared to ignore it. Toledo cares about sports like basketball. Also, Toledo is centrally located in the MAC and has natural rivalries they don't want to lose. Edit: As someone who is more invested in MAC hoops, I'm thrilled by this move. Addition by subtraction.

  7. Athletic directors don't care. It's not their money.

  9. I hope they do everything they can to make Enrique Freeman Night at The JAR a memorable night for him. GA tickets should be $5 - get a big crowd in there to show Enrique all of the love he deserves.

  10. Maybe in 5 or 10 years that piece you're hoping for will be written. Right now everyone seems on board with the move. To me NIU kind of always was like that relative that never quite fit in with the family. I'm not bothered by their loss like I would be a Toledo, Ohio, Miami etc.

  12. I’ve updated this thread with what’s still needed. One more scholarship WR, unless the staff decides to shift the numbers elsewhere. Defense still needs work.

  13. For a non-student night, the crowd was having a good time. Not much to say other than we need to buckle up and accept it's live and die by the 3 for this season.

  14. Great game. I was afraid to say anything during the game. I didn’t want to jinx the good shooting night. Go Zips!!

  17. With the other sports move to something like the Horizon League, their net travel probably decreases by a fair margin even though football jumps.

  20. Seth Wilson is shooting it well tonight. Love it! Decent first half. Defense needs some tweaking but I like where we're at!

  21. Excited for the game tonight!! I think CMU has one of the better rosters in the very down-bad MAC but I like Akron at -8.5

  23. I think it's way too early to crown a MAC regular season champion. All the teams are very flawed and will have head scratching losses. I wouldn't be surprised if 11-7 wins the MAC this year.

  24. But the MAC doesn't exist for you and me. It exists so that Execs, University Presidents and University Athletic Dept heads can pad their resumes to move onto something else and get paid six-figures salaries while doing it. We don't live in a meritocracy. We live in a plutocracy where a select few do what they want at the expense of the rest of us.

  25. Oh, Lou..... The current era in CFB is undesirable and disappointing in many ways, but Holtz can't/shouldn't romanticize the past either. It was never clean and never about academics no matter how we choose to remember it. Teamwork and character? Booster payments, academic fraud, racking up hundreds of victories in a century against teams that were either helpless or underfunded. So what's really changed?
