Make that 4x if you count football. Basketball coaches who have suffered three losses in the same year by their team and have a winless football season should not get into Twitter fights with other school. Miami didn't really take any shots at Kent other than pointing out they beat them three times.2 points

This is one I thought was coming. He dominated at JUCO this past season. 42 total tackles and 5 sacks. Really agile for a guy his size and has been well coached. Not sure why he didn’t have more offers.2 points

Although this is the first meeting between Arizona and Akron, Here is a surprising stat that bodes well in our favor: • Arizona is 5-5 all-time against Mid-American Conference opponents Time to make it 5-62 points

I know I am in the minority but a Kent win is good vibes for the MAC and a Zip win on Friday.2 points

If you guys are going to make snarky comments, you should at least know what your talking about. Considering the amount of injuries and other issues with players, this year's team still competed every night. You know that Bud Wentz also runs a NIL program for the womens team? We have some pretty good freshmen and will pick up a couple more players from the portal. Shelbee Brown will be back and those injured players will return too. Gensler is a good coach. Eventually things will start to go our way.2 points

KenPom ranks Akron’s roster as the 4th-smallest in the country, with most of the contributors no taller than 6-foot-3. How will it be able to match up with Arizona’s rotation where everyone is at least 6-3? “Not good. Akron has been a program that has struggled with size the last couple of seasons. It caused fits for them last season in a first-round game against a tall Creighton team, losing by 17.” I think this is a bad take. We struggled against Creighton because they had shooters and we didn't. We had actually had the lead late in the first half before we went cold and they started not missing. Freeman had 20+ vs. Kalkbrenner. The only team we've truly struggled against with size was Saint Mary's, and they're an anomaly with 3 guys at least 7 feet tall. Yale had size but that wasn't the reason for the blowout; not making our shots was the cause. If size was everything, Purdue would've won 4 straight national titles with Edey. March is dominated by guards, specifically with shot-making ability. Nick Lorensen, the guy who answered these questions, isn't exactly the brightest crayon in the box when it comes to CBB. It took him a very long time to include Akron in his Mid Major Top 25, and his Top 25s are suspect at best. He has several answers in the article posted above that are very shallow and lack any sort of true understanding of Groce/Akron.1 point

Does any of that fall on the shoulders of the head coach and his staff - IMO it can’t all be blamed on bad luck. Lack of depth going in had to contribute to some extent, no?1 point

-If we apparently have a NIL program for the women’s team, what the hell is it going toward? What’s our portal plan? -Did anyone even try to talk to Reagan last off-season before she walked? No, they did not. -There’s no pressure on Gensler? I would certainly hope there is right? Halfway through his contract, has a new boss, and MOST IMPORTANTLY is: 21-39 overall, 10-26 in conference. -Charles is gone now guys, you don’t have to defend his “culture changing” hires anymore.1 point

I know. I was just piggy backing off my other reply. I could have done a better job of differentiating the comments.1 point

I'm not saying they did, and the truth is probably somewhere around there that neither team really deserved it. However, the NIT has reduced itself to a garbage postseason tournament, and in doing so was forced to deviate from their original "standards". Once they did that, Miami OH had an argument. For as simplistic as RPI was (I encourage all who haven't yet to go look at the realtimeRPI rankings and see how much more fun the NCAA tournament field would've been based on those), NET is overly complicated and arguably crooked. Anyways, go Stanford. I hope the poverty community college in Portage County is enjoying shelling out all these travel expenses for meaningless postseason basketball.1 point

The same could be said for the Miami coaches as well. There were worst teams that made the field than Kent (using NET & Kenpom rankings). Miami coaches should have been asking why the MAC didn't get multiple bids. Not taking shots at Kent.1 point

We are back with another year of the ZipsNation Bracket Challenge, yet again featuring the Zips in the bracket. If you have participated in the past, I just sent out an alert that the group is now active, so feel free to create your bracket. For those who are new, click here to join. It is 100% free. The only thing we play for is pride. The scoring is Standard Points + Seed. Each round is worth X number of points, and picking the correct winner in that round results in a final point total of that team's seed + round points. i.e. Sweet Sixteen is 4 points, so if you have a 4 seed winning in the Sweet Sixteen, it's 4+4=8 total points (Kent fans had to use their toes for that one). Never forget: no matter how bad your bracket turns out, you'll still never be as big a failure as a Kent fan. Good luck & Go Zips!1 point

Two things that stood out to me - Alex Adam’s is giving it another go. Spring game on Friday night?1 point

Heard spring practice starts this week and absolutely nothing from media or the school/athletic department. How hard would it be to put an iPhone in Joe’s face and just get a couple comments about the start of camp? They haven’t even announced practice dates or spring game have they?1 point

Why? Puerto Rico is a country and only a US possession...one of which we provide little care and representation. Ofc, lots of that going around unless you're a billionaire who bought a piece of our government.1 point

If I was a coach, I don't know that I'd leave the door open for a kid to return after he entered the portal. I'd recruit a kid once, with the rare exception of a kid like Ali who found the grass wasn't greener and wanted to return. Craft is likely seeing what the market is for his services. I don't think it is at a higher level than where he is at Miami but we'll see.1 point

At least go back to where they have to sit a year or show hardship after the first or even second transfer. Four schools in four years is bad for the game and the players.1 point

The NBA is better now than what it was 5-10 years ago. You used to know exactly which 2-3 teams were the real contenders before the season even started, which made the regular season irrelevant as all the other teams were competing for 4th or 5th place. I remember penciling in Cavs-Warriors finals for 3 straight years, which proved to be true. At least now you don't have the same teams making the Finals every year. I still much prefer the college game, but even that is fading. I used to be a fan of college basketball as a whole and watch other games throughout the season. NIL has kind of destroyed my love for the game. I'm more just an Akron fan these days as I quit watching the random games.1 point

After rewatching the final, I know you can say this about a lot of players who play well, But the Zips do not win that game without Amani Lyles. He was so clutch in so many ways, he must have been watching Enrique because 14 rebounds in 26 minutes is dog work. Six of them were offensive rebounds, which is the same number as the rest of the team had and only one less than Miami had. Plus obviously his clutch rebound at the end with that fantastic outlet pass. But he was also the guy boxing out Miami when Nate Johnson made his game tying shot near the end. Just an amazing game for him for somebody you just never thought was going to be that kind of a contributor last year. The Cavs had the Block, the 3 and the D, the Zips had the D, the Outlet and the Euro. 😊1 point

Let's check in on where our transfers came from and how their team did this season. Isiah Gray - Cornell lost in the Ivy Finals, season over. Seth Wilson & Josiah Harris - WVU got hosed by the selection committee Bowen Hardman - OSU missed the tourney, declined the NIT and headed to Vegas James Okonkwo - UNC should have missed the tourney, but luckily their AD was committee chair. Definitely looks like good recruiting ammo for Groce next season. "We have kids transfer from Ohio State because they actually want to play in March Madness."1 point
