Game 4- OSU

By popular demand I am forced to predict the OSU/Akron score.

Our defensive line has no hope to slow down OSU.

Our offensive line has no chance to slow down OSU

OSU is primed to show they don't suck as bad as their fans think they do.

OSU 63 - Akron 10

The Zips best chance to make me look bad - Irons needs to build off last week.

He played well at Auburn, then took a step or two backwards against Temple. Last week he saved the team from a supreme embarrassment with a Herculean effort. The only difference between Gardner-Webb 2010 and Bryant 2021 was Nicely vs. Irons.

Irons runs with a purpose, and his long stride covers a lot of ground quickly. When given time, he does a nice job of hitting open receivers (not a given for many recent Zips QB's). But if he runs as frequently as he did against Bryant, he'll get pummeled and we'll probably be seeing Gibson behind center against OU. We don't want that.

Could he and Mathison go "Tim Rattay / Troy Brown / Nebraska" and run up some big numbers on OSU's 2021 secondary? Probably not, but it would be fun to see Arth try it.

Best case scenario - Keep Irons healthy. Get through the game with minimal injuries. Keep the clock running. On to OU.🐈

What does a "successful" game for Akron look like tomorrow? That's what I've been trying to figure out this week. Is it covering? No, not necessarily. Is it keeping it close? Yes, but I don't see that as a remote possibility. After thinking it through, I just want to see competence by both sides of the ball to make plays that Division I FBS football players make. Defensively, Ohio State will get open and they'll break tackles and out run you. But I don't want to watch a repeat of the Auburn game where every play seemed to be 25+ yards with open receivers down field. A few deflections and maybe, by miracle, a turnover would be nice to see. Force maybe 2 punts before the fourth quarter. Make at least one tackle in the backfield before the fourth quarter. All of that could end up resulting in 63 points for Ohio State, but at this point, the defensive leadership is so pathetic that's where I have to put the bar at this point.

Offensively? Move the ball a little bit. Get a first down or 2 on each drive. In 2007 in this game, JD Brookhart sent out Jon Stec to punt 14 times. If Slike is sent out fewer times than that, I will be surprised. As other posters have said, keep the clock running and get out of there if that's what you need to do. Irons will be under a lot of pressure so I am hoping that when he does tuck it and run, he's a lot more careful about taking hits. He's been leaving it all out there, don't get me wrong I love the effort, but him going down would officially end any hope this team has.

I don't expect this game to be pretty at all. Just get it over with and don't get hurt. This isn't the year for this game.

I expect them to get throttled as they are clearly overmatched.  OSU is just bigger, stronger, faster and more experienced.

What I hope to see is decent fundamentals and players at least in the position to make plays.  With Auburn, there were way to many instances of defenders not being in the same zip code as Auburn players running free.  Don't turn the ball over, be in position to make plays and don't make stupid mistakes.  If they get outrun, out jumped or taken out with a block, so be it, but handle your assignments.   This goes not only to the coaching but the self discipline of the players.

I think this team has matured some, and will not allow a repeat embarrassment.  When an opponent disrespects you so much that they put their 3rd and 4th string QB's in to reserve their #1 for emergencies, the coach won't need any magic to motivate the team.  We will clearly be out matched, but drive can narrow the gap.  The team with the most TO's will win.  Capt K has been spot on this year, but I would not bet the spread this week.  I hope the Zips don't play it safe and just try to survive, but lay it all on the line!

Go Zips!

We play OSU closer than we played TTUN in 2013

The uncalled PI/Defensive Holding in the endzone on that final play is one of the biggest screw jobs I've ever witnessed in sports.

May I ask a silly question? Why, as a university with all sorts of financial trouble, do we eat into the budget by going down to CBus a night early for a 7:30pm game on Saturday?

When you’re getting paid 1.8 million.. I think it’s okay to send the team there the day before. Most teams place their team in hotel night before game regardless if it’s home or away.

This game should pee off you and all other Zip fans. I was at the game and we got screwed royally by the officials. They wasted nearly 25 seconds spotting the ball when Akron was ready to snap it. That cost us possibly two plays. Michigan was on their heals and had no answer. They did not stop us, we ran out of time. Even Michigan fans told me as we left the stadium that we were hosed by the officials.

GAME DAY!  I haven't been this excited since my last anesthesia free colonoscopy!

To quote Carl Spackler... "Don't mind this. This is doctor's orders."

Just read a scouting report on Kyle McCord. He's a pro-style QB like Joe Burrow. When he transfers out of the QB-killer OSUcks program before winning a National Title with a SEC school and getting drafted #1 overall, we can proudly say we were his first ass-whooping.

Bowling Green is up 14-10 against Minnesota with 7:30 left in the game.. their team was terrible last year. How did they turn it around so quickly? Competing with Big 10 teams??

Congrats to BG on keeping the years with a MAC win over a B1G team streak alive. I only watched the end, but it appeared to be a sloppy game where the defense made some plays to give them chances.

Calling it "so much faster" let alone "turned around" is a bit premature, however. We'll see how the rest of their season plays out.
