I suspect that the same attitude that allows you to be taken away from the team by Groce is the same attitude that won't allow you to take responsibility, buck up and earn your way back.  I really hope I am wrong on the inner workings of what went down and that this is a situation of a good kid losing his self-confidence and that this is all a part of his process of a successful rehabilitation of that confidence.

Time will tell, but the results on the floor tell us what's best for the team right now.  I also think that we may be giving his absence a little too much credit for the Zips recent success.  There's more to it than that.

Watching the first half since I missed it last night.

Props to Dawson for really stepping his game up and seizing this opportunity.

Not enough good things can be said about Freeman.

Ali, as long as his attitude remains positive like these last couple of games, can stay a Zip. Looks like he has found his fit without Trimble.

Tribble has also found his role too.

This team is going to be a force these next 2 years.

My question to everyone here is if you were Groce, would you consider letting him come back at this point If he agreed to a lesser role and bought into the new team chemistry? Does the risk outweigh the possible benefit? Any thoughts?

Thanks guys, great answers. I was just really curious where everyone's attitude fell on the subject.

A great question @Illini Zip. I will also go with no. While the idea of a 3-point specialist even coming off of the bench for 10-15 minutes sounds like a great idea, I would hate to see it throw off the current chemistry and flow. Trimble is the forbidden fruit, tempting yet dangerous.

Utomi was supposed to be the 3 point specialist off the bench. I think Tommy Schmock does that role fairly well for the Bobcats.

Three point shooters have generally driven ZipsNation nuts.  Josh Williams...Kwan Cheatham...Xeyrius...Trimble...

Some of those guys though, like X and Kwan, had other ways to contribute when their shot was off.  Trimble does not.

After mentioning Kwan, I looked him up and he is playing in Madrid in the top league in Spain and is their 3rd leading scorer and 2nd leading rebounder.  Glad to see a former Zip doing well.   Does his home arena that seats 5400 remind anyone of the Jar?

It needs a track and some glass rails.  Those upper seats are way too close.

not to digress the thread but when was Kwan's 3 point shooting ever on? (edit: apart from a rare occasion)

The crowd at the JAR usually sceamed "Don't Shoot" whenever he had the ball on the perimeter.

I remember him being on one night when LeBron was at the game.  A (3rd-consecutive?) Kwan 3 forced the other team into a time out & LeBron was celebration dancing out on the floor. If it had been anyone else the refs would have probably given the Zips a T.

Also add to that granite hard bench seating for GA's.

Was that against Buffalo a few years back?  I remember him sitting on the floor for a game.  Just trying remember if that was the team.

I can't remember, but yes, LBJ was sitting court side w/ his wife.  I just remember him getting excited.  It was definitely one of Kwan's better games, IIRC.

Heck, those are a treat compared to the old fiberglass bleachers at the Rubber Bowl that would make your keester itch for a couple days!

I remember Lebron being at a Buffalo game for 2 reasons.  One, a Buffalo player dove for a ball and ended up on Lebron and he helped him up.  Probably the highlight of that guy's college career.  Second, Bobby Hurley was their coach and went crazy after a call and the ref gave him a T.  Lebron almost fell down laughing at Hurley's antics.  Always fun to watch Hurley going crazy.

About a week ago, I questioned if this team had hit it's ceiling. Today it feels like the ship's course has been corrected and moving forward again. Maybe a single player hit his own personal ceiling and effected the greater team.

Trimble has made contributions this season and should be recognized for that. But as others have pointed out we are doing fine in his absence. That said, unless Trimble is a complete locker room cancer, he could still add value to a short bench. These would be my caveats. Positive energy is non-negotiable. He would likely be coming off the bench. The ball can't stick in his hands and he has to move without the ball. And he would have to commit to playing his best defense possible. However, he is limited to who he can guard effectively and should only play when contributing something on the court. If this arrangement offends him in some manner we are better off parting ways. This situation for all I know could be finalized already.

Groce gave Maishe Daily the longest of long leashes to get on track last season. Towards year's end, he cut his minutes.

Same thing with Trimble this year. He's had an incredibly long leash for his incredibly subpar 3-point shooting year. And he brings nothing else to the table aside from his erratic, freakish 3-point potential.

I remember a quote from Danny Ainge a few years back. I always felt it was one of the simplest, truest statements regarding players and playing time - "It’s not a coach’s job to give opportunities for everybody. To me, it’s a player’s job to make that coach feel like he needs you on the court to win — because every coach wants to win.”

End-of-February/March is winning time. The time to ride out a player's season-long slump has expired. Dawson and Tribble give the Zips the best chance to win.

While it is where flushes go, the accoutrements are too nice to be the MACC.
