Parking in the deck is free. The athletic department made a deal with the parking company. It's been that way for the last 2 seasons.

Although my memory sucks, I am 99% sure last year they charged for parking in the deck and I had to show my season holder parking pass to get into the deck.  I was surprised this year that they were not charging for the deck.  If it was free why did the U send me parking passes for lot 1 as part of my season tickets?  I think they made it free after they sent out the season tickets.

I must have been wrong about last season.

Last night they honored the student athletes who made the honor role at halftime with about 150 students being honored.  After they were honored, about 95% left.  I was disgusted by their choice to leave.  It showed zero school spirit and I thought was disrespectful to the basketball team who has the nation's longest winning streak.  They use the basketball crowd to honor the students and the students dishonor their fellow athletes by leaving ASAP. The school does this every year during a basketball game as long as I can remember.  Am I the only one that feels that way?

If they force a basketball player to attend a softball game for recognition, how long would he stick around after?

Does that make it right?  I have gone to many functions, business and non business activities because it was the right thing to do and I did not leave early because it would have been disrespectful to the host.  If the University is training these student athletes for life and a business career, should they not learn respect for others?  If I was the U I would make it mandatory that the coaches escort the teams on the floor and that the coaches and teams stay till the end of the game and cheer on the Zips any time a student athlete is honored during a sporting event.

They do it every year. It’s such a waste of time. Students athletes  don’t care about being there and hide in a corner until they get their name called and then book it home cause they’d rather do anything else

👍 Happens at men's soccer games, too.

Ohio State has a large under grad population, and the majority are there because Ohio State is cool and attending games is a social status boost.

Akron has a dwindling under grad population, the majority are there to focus on their sport or education, Akron isn't cool, and attending games doesn't boost their social status.

Until someone figures out how to make Akron cool, these kids are going to struggle to find the motivation to support athletics.

I completely agree. I know you already have the answer, but I will say it anyway. A 2 or 3 win run in the NCAAT will get the attention of every sports-minded person in NEOhio. Do it twice and you’re all of a sudden cool and filling the JAR.

Which is why I think Bud Wentz is shelling out so much $$$ for basketball. The numbers consistently show an uptick in enrollment/support for schools following a March Madness run.

I have some other ideas in the interim, but that's the end-all-be-all solution.

My experience in life is being "right" is little more than the boobie prize. It's a lesson I learned long ago from a building contractor. People go broke all the time trying to be right about things that don't matter.

I’m surprised Red Panda from all accounts only charges $5K a performance. That is well within the $100K BW generously contributed to UA for BB marketing this season!

I think UA should establish a Red Panda residency like the Vegas venues do with the big stars!

Considering our budget restrictions, is there an off-brand Red Panda...maybe a Pink Koala? On a tricycle, with paper plates?

Could we get the Blatz Light Daredevils to perform some antics on pogo sticks?

I have a scooter and some circa 1980 Corell plates and would do it for $50 a show.
