clarkwgriswold
At the end of the day, I judge Guthrie on where the athletic program is compared to where it was when he came in. I see no progress. 2

Zipmeister
Given the recent history of the Zips sports programs, I'm going to be suspicious of anyone who takes on the AD position at Akron.

Like it or not, it needs to stay It's perfectly okay to evolve and expand the brand. Secondary logos, fonts, wordmark, uniforms. But UA needs to embrace the current A logo. The best, most iconic college logos are simple and recognizable. OSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oregon, etc. The new A is unique enough and is already recognized as "Akron." It needs to stay for the foreseeable future.

Who was the driving force behind the basketball practice facility? Who is making sure Groce gets paid? It makes complete sense that Guthrie would leave. He and Miller were attached at the hip. Miller brought him over from Green Bay. Once Miller stepped aside, this was just a matter of time. I do give him credit for finally ditching Adidas for Nike. At least we have that...

Why does football have $0 NIL? Kaulig and Wenz were around long before Guthrie, and will be around long after. I don't see giving Charles any credit for not offending them over the past three years. 3

Donors typically don't fund general operations. They fund projects like a basketball practice facility or upgrades to a baseball field. You know that. Absent the AD making a deliberate attempt to run them off they were always going to be there. In fact, they could likely run an AD off quicker than an AD could run them off. We started Guthrie's tenure with good basketball, soccer, track and field, swimming and diving, rifle...and awful football, maybe the highest profile sport. None of that changed. One way to get the current A embraced would be to get it out into stores like Walmart and Meijer. What is available out there is very limited. I'm still looking for a hat ot two at either place. I have plenty of older hats from Walmart that are just fine. And put Akron and/or Zips below it. I also don't know how anyone can get excited by that merchandise with the bland block type.

It happened, we have the A, but it's worthless if you don't get it on the bodies of the masses in the greater Akron area. Somebody should host a charity event where people bring in their gear from other colleges - mainly Ohio State - and trade it in for a Zips shirt/hat. Donate the Ohio State gear to Africa to get it out of the country, and get the Akron gear to the masses.

The reality of today's NCAA environment is that ADs MUST spend most of their time on budgetary, compliance and policy issues. Those things are for wonks, not folks who just love being involved in collegiate athletics. He'd be a fish out of water. Given the new Prez's background, the next AD will be a CFO/COO type. I bet you were one of the folks who didn't want Jim Tressel here too

Captain Kangaroo
The Infocision team shop didn’t open until 30 minutes before game time for the homecoming game. There were 10,000 fans there, and the tailgate crowds arrived early. Lots of alumni were looking to buy gear, and the shop was closed. Ditto the last home game, with a lesser crowd. The bad news is the Arby’s A is lame. The good news is the team shop is never open so nobody can buy the items. 1

But hey, if you can find a parking space near the student center during the week, you can find overpriced stuff in the bookstore. I don't need a fitted hat, but would buy a gold hat with the new A that had Akron or Zips on it too. (They did have a blue and a white(?) version though). Hilltopper
I know this seems crazy, but the athletic department has no say in how the team shop and bookstore operate or what items they sell. One of the many frustrating aspects of the administration at UA. Hopefully RJ can change this. 2
Reslife4Life
I was just at Marshalls in Brimfield last night and they have oodles and oodles of Ohio State stuff there, not much of a surprise to me. But something I did find interesting was they had Kent State blankets. I have never seen any Akron gear ever in a store like that

There has to be a way to modify that at some point, right? It's crazy to give that much control to a 3rd party.
