I forget. Late game loss in the Championship?

Still hands-down the toughest loss of my life of sports fandom, especially since Cedrick Middleton is perhaps my alltime favorite Zip.

Clock didn't start on time, then this. Heartbreaking.

Cedric spent every day in the gym shooting free throws after this game.

Yeah, that’s brutal.

As an extra FU, the NIT selection show the next day on ESPNU went to their first commercial saying, "Coming up, find out who ABC U, XYZ State, and AKRON will be playing in the NIT (little Akron highlight montage plays)!"

And then we weren't selected at all. Anyone else remember that? 26-7 and no post-season.

For any newer fans or young'uns....besides Middleton, that team was lead by Romeo Travis and Dru Joyce III, two local Akron kids (high school teammates of LeBron) that were charismatic, likeable and so, so, so good. This was before the CBI and other smaller post-season tourneys existed.  I haven't loved a Zip team as much as I loved that one.

And now Travis Steele and Kam Craft must pay for Doug Pennos sins

Only good thing is he is now 17 years closer to death. 🤣

And they also showed that shot and Akron in the leadup to the NIT selection show.   I remember watching that show and being disappointed that they did not get an invite.  The team later had a picture signing for that team.  A person in my office gave me a picture of the team.  As a result of Akron not getting selected, the NIT made a new rule that conference champions would get an automatic invite to the NIT.  And last year they tossed that rule.

Quick, what section are the Akron tickets in for tomorrow? I want to buy next to it instead of the $50 through the ticket office.

I believe Zips are in section 105, 106, 107 & 108

Anyone having trouble accessing their tickets purchased thru Gozips.com. I have a receipt from the site but do not see where I can go to see the tickets. Supposedly they are sent electronically, but I have yet to see them in my email or in my Seat Geek account. Are they being sent tomorrow?  Any help would be appreciated. Go Zips!

You will get them via email around noon tomorrow.

Sullinger, Davis, Hornbeak, and Bekelja all participated in Senior Night, so they're gone. I'm assuming Safford and Barnett have eligibility left. But either way, they're losing a lot.

What is the "new look" he speaks of?

The new look is probably losing by less than 27. From what I've seen, they haven't changed much. Their semifinal game vs Kent was pretty much what they've been doing all season. They shot just well enough and Kent shot just poorly enough.  They need to shoot the ball extremely well and have Akron be off to have a shot. Speaking of new look, since the last time Miami played Akron, we've spent a month in Groce boot camp learning a whole new non-3 pointer based offense. That's not something Miami saw as much of and I'm curious to see how quickly we deploy it to get some of their guys in foul trouble.

Tonight will be the 12th time in the last 18 seasons (minus 2020) that Akron will play in the MAC Championship game. We've been fortunate to have great coaches and players to make it all possible.

No big mystery here. Miami shoots almost 40% as a team from 3. Gotta make them put it on the floor. Zips need to play smart and use their athletic advantage. Bring it home!

Mr. Pinky really has his work ahead of him putting together a squad for next year with the losses of Sullinger and Davis.  I root against them but those kids are quality players and among the MAC's best.
