The 2024-2025 regular season comes to an end Friday as the Buffalo Bulls come to the JAR to play the Zips.  The Bulls are 9-21/4-13 coming into the game.  The Zips beat the Bulls 90-58 at Buffalo in January 21st.

6'3" sophomore guard Ryan Sabol leads Buffalo in scoring at 14.4 ppg.  6'3" senior guard Tyson Dunn averages 12.2 ppg as the team's second leading scorer and is the team's facilitator leading in assists by nearly 100.  6'8" junior forward Noah Batchelor leads rebounding at 6.1 rpg.

How are we already at the end of the regular season?

If Akron wins, I believe it will be the program record for regular season wins.

If I recall, 26 is the most wins we have ever had in a season.

That said, games against non-D-1 competition should not count towards that total. I hate that we schedule unfair games against inferior competition.

Overall record is 27 wins, in 2016-2017. So how about a win over Buffalo and the MAC tournament for a nice even 30 going into the NCAA tournament?

Right these total wins, win streaks, and KDs infamous "20" win seasons are fuzzy math, garbage in/garbage out stuff.  Throw in some D3s, some low level MAC competition, etc. and next thing you know you have a record.  I'm not diminishing what this team or any other team did.  These #s are good for low-information fans and the media.  If I were to tell someone Akron set record for most wins in a season, the response back usually isn't "But SUNY Brockport."

Up until recently Buffalo was able to attract some real talent and had some nice teams.  I remember that Moss kid that won MAC POY 10 years ago.  He was their 3rd POY in 4 years.  He was a monster inside.  I believe he celebrated his award by stealing some electronics from other students and was promptly dispatched from the program.  Moss, McCrea, Massenburg, Watt....   A real string of some solid teams.

This is Senior Day for Evan, Seth and Isaiah. What is everyone’s thoughts on these guys and their contributions?

My thoughts on Evan from very far(no in person games).  He is supreme support for his teammates.  They all show how much they appreciate that when he does get a chance to get on the court.  His enthusiasm is contagious.  I expect that he will have a roll after graduation if not under JG some where.  I think he could do a wonderful job with the younger players.

Evan - Waved a great towel. Embraced his role as an energy guy on the bench. A very underrated shooter when given the chance. He'd have have seen PT in Groce's Akron Year #1 and acquitted himself well. Decent all around player for a walk on. Fun kid to root for.

Seth - Short, streaky, stocky 3-point specialist. Unwavering confidence in his shot. Not such a great defender. If the Zips were to get in the Big Dance, he'd need to go on a heater if we are to have any chance of winning a game. Good 1-year portal addition.

Isaiah - Good blue-collar player. Jack of all trades. Decent rebounder, decent 3-point shooter, decent ball handler. Confident, veteran presence. Good attitude. Gets into trouble driving the lane...not as good a ball handler as he thinks he is. Doesn't necessarily finish at the rim all that well. Never lacks effort. Never sulks.
