Congratulations Mr. Guthrie and Dr. Miller for hiring Coach Joe Moorhead. You have renewed my faith in the program and I cannot wait to see the results. Please change all of our sports back to the "Z" Logo. When we had them they were considered one of the best and unique uniforms in the NCAA. Hopefully this post will get enough likes to show you it is what the fans want.3 points

From reading all of the posts in this thread I can see one problem- there have been too many damn logos. The school needs to pick something and stick with it for a little while. Part of branding is recognition and that's lost when you are always switching things up.3 points

Btw, this thread is evidence why the U made the correct decision in building Info & investing in football. Look at the excitement this thread has generated. Akron is smack dab in the middle of NEO, the football capital of the world. I like me some basketball too, I really do. And I daydream about one day making the Sweet Sixteen & having a new downtown arena. But like most other area people, football is king... by a mile... by two miles... by three miles.3 points

The “Z” is cool and has style. Script Akron is lame, unimaginative…it has all the sex appeal of The Turnover Pencil.3 points

In my 50 plus years as a Zips sports fan I have never seen the stars aligned so perfectly as they are now. We have a university president that the complete support of the board of trustees and is not afraid to make the bold decisions needed to reposition the university. We also have his hand picked AD who is cut from the same cloth.3 points

We need "Basketball Grandma" to explain to us about how Groce has his favorites and only they get the playing time. 😇2 points

This is a friendly warning, If you’re not interested in a topic, simply ignore it. There is no need to insult fellow Zips fans.2 points

The entire football office got let go. A GA or two could be retained, but that will be up to JoMo. I would be shocked if anyone of any significance is brought back. The program was just as much a mess on the inside as it was on the field. Moorhead would likely not have a hard time filling spots with far more experienced and competent people, and if it costs a couple of players not wanting to stay, they know where the door is.2 points

We should tip our hats to our AD for executing on what looks be a good hire. Anyone who thinks Akron isn't a great coaching opportunity is nuts. If you aim high, you hit high. If you aim low, you hit low. Guthrie aimed high. Hiring a good coach just takes a little more imagination than Ianello and Arth. Good grief.1 point

The currently 2-4 Rattlers of Florida A & M come to the JAR next Sunday at 2:00. The Rattlers come north with wins over LeMoyone- Owen College and Fort Valley State and losses to Kansas State, Miami, UC- Riverside and UTEP. 6-4 senior guard MJ Randolph leads the Rattlers at 18.5 ppg and is second in rebounding at 6.2 rpg. 6-5 grad student Bryce Moragne leads rebounding at 7 rpg while scoring 9 ppg scoring. On a positive note, the game will give us a distraction from the Browns. The game is the first part of a doubleheader with the women playing Cleveland State at 5:00.1 point

Just a thought. The Browns bye was today, a Sunday. Seems like a great time for a Sunday game.1 point

Gift? You're talking to someone who has given maybe 100k to this university and after 30+ years of sports-related horrors I'll bitch and complain about whatever I want!!!!1 point

Opinions are like assholes, of course, so it's a matter of taste. All I can say as someone that doesn't get to see UA very often that when I saw the script "Akron", I instantly liked it. There's only a few schools that have that and the name fits it well. But, as I said, everyone's got one... just so glad for this hire1 point

College football fan forums never cease to amaze me. You got a great new coach, but are focused on a secondary logo. Take the weekend and enjoy the gift you just got.1 point

For the first time, a G5 team is in the college football playoffs. Granted, soon Cincinnati will be a P5 school, but today they are G5. What do you want to happen in their game against Alabama? My opinion is this. I hope Alabama beats them 100-0. Cincinnati is the best G5 team I can remember and I'm pretty convinced they will be destroyed. If the game is respectable, it will confuse those who believe there is no difference between G5 and P5. It will slow down the inevitable which is the separation of the two groups into separate divisions. If Cincinnati gets destroyed, it will speed up the inevitable. The best thing to happen for G5 will be the separation of the groups.1 point
-
There will never be a compete separation. The P5 need the G5 schools to pad their win totals. Against non-P5 schools Maryland was 3-6, but because they were able to pad their win total against "inferior" competition they can sell their fan base on a bowl appearance. With a closed division Maryland would be at the bottom of the food chain and their fanbase will die off as I'm sure many Akron fans can attest winning 0-4 games a year year over year is no fun.1 point

I'd like a throwback uniform with a logo depicting a burning sofa on Kathryn Place.1 point

I happen to love the ARoo. Maybe not on the Helmets, but I love it as a rotational logo, a patch on the Logo.1 point

Seriously? "Skirt wearers"? I don't care how old you are. What a completely ignorant and unnecessary remark. I am not sure if you are calling the guys who work in design girls, or just trying to be patronizing towards women, but in either case, inappropriate.1 point

Clarke had the distinction of producing 4 fouls and 2 turnovers in 4 minutes of play against Southern! Yikes! If you have talent and aren't playing for Groce it is clearly an effort thing. As mentioned in here before, Groce sang Dawson's praises in the post-game last week talking about how he should be an example to all young players that scoring isn't the only way to get you on the floor. I suspect Wynn isn't getting that very message. It's too bad as they could use him to help in the rotation with Walton gone. On the topic of Walton, on the radio show the other night someone texted in a question as to what was up with KJ and Groce answered that he decided he didn't want to play basketball any more. I wonder if he decided he just didn't want to play or whether he didn't want to play Groce's way or in the role he had had been placed.1 point

I had a blast at the Suckeyes basketball game this year when their band played Hang on Sloopy I was surprised no one was doing O H I O so I did Z I P S at the same time and it was great. I think the whole arena could hear me as it was so quiet and I got a number of looks from the Suckeye fans around me.1 point

Please now fire women's soccer coach Noreen Herlihy in her 6th year, 3-15-1 record and 1-9-1 in MAC Herlihy needs to go1 point

I still don't understand why Wynn isn't in the rotation. Last year he provided a good presence on the floor, he definitely could provide some shooting if Ali doesn't find his stroke like last year1 point

Xavier mentioned in his post game interview that he met Groce while Groce was at Illinois and that's why he turned to Akron when UCF collapsed. That differentiates him from KJ.1 point

I'll even admit I didn't know much about Joe Moorhead until a week ago. I watch a decent amount of college football and remember a coordinator leaving PSU to coach MSU. But honestly couldn't tell you his name or what has happened to him since. Not saying it isn't a great hire for UA. But this isn't a household name coming in. On top of that if we reach the point we all hope to, how long will Moorhead be a Zip? How can you sit there and tell a 4-5* recruit to turn down P5 schools. Then join a MAC school that you are committed to turning around. Which, if that happens, means you'll be gone before he can graduate.1 point

Personally, I do not like the Roo. But in reality, I can live with anything. I will let all you hens on this forum talk about the uniforms and logos. I just want a smash mouth football team that wins the MAC and is competitive in OOC games. I feel like I am in high school with Suzy saying, did you see what Mary is wearing? C'mon, let's worry about football.1 point

I miss the Z. It was one of the coolest logos in all of sports. Additionally, our old football uniforms were the most beautiful football uniforms in the nation, regardless of level.1 point

As a Mississippi State alumnus, I have a lot of respect for Joe Moorhead as a man, doubt if there's a better one out there. Where he fell short at State was his lack of player discipline. He has a very good offensive mind as shown by his performance at Penn State as well as Oregon. He tried too hard to instill his offense at State without the players to execute it. Akron has hired a good man and possibly a good HC if he can find a hit man to enforce the disciplinary side of things. Congrats and good luck, Joe.1 point

Wentz had only one scholarship offer to an FBS school coming out of high school. That means pretty much everyone missed him. He went to NDSU because he didn't have many options. It happens, some guys get missed because they played at small schools or because things clicked late for them. Josh Allen went to Wyoming. Derek Carr went to Fresno State. Jimmy Garroppolo went to Eastern Illinois. This shows you not all QBs went to P5 programs. Some fall through the cracks. That is fact. To say you have a 0% chance of making it in the NFL if you go to a MAC school is perhaps the worst take I've heard on this forum. Is it a lower percentage than if you went to OSU or Alabama, definitely. But it's not 0%.1 point
