  2. Here's what I'm drawing up on the whiteboard during this TO: "LZip just posted 'This team sucks!' Are you going to take that?!?"

  3. Just watched Florida State beat Duke. Right after the game, ESPN showed basketball highlights and the first game was the Zips comeback tonight and highlighted the Zips win and that they scored the last 11 points.

  4. Our blue and gold colors are fantastic. A fan can buy a piece of merchandise and it will look good with whatever else they are wearing. I prefer the Z logo. If your name is Zips, own it.

  5. Tavari Johnson update: Glenbard West Hilltoppers are #1 in Illinois crushing opponents by more than 25 points per game. Glenbard has 4 D1 college commits led by 6-9 forward and Gonzaga commit Braden Huff. In a big 32-team holiday tournament Glenbard was looking forward to playing Bolingbrook in the championship game. But behind Tavari's 28 points his Lyons team upset Bolingbrook. Glenbard overwhelmed Lyons in the championship game as Tavari is the only D1 commit on an otherwise mid-pack HS team. Led by Tavari Lyons is now 16-3 with 2 of those losses to #1 Glenbard West. Lyons is currently ranked #10 in Illinois despite limited talent behind Tavari.

  6. This is what I've been told by athletics admin. I'm concerned because so often, brand new logos can be disappointing. Plus, everyone's gear will be outdated AGAIN. I like that social media accounts have been using the Fear The Roo head, hopefully that becomes the secondary logo. Should be interesting to see how this shapes out.

  8. Any one day in this conference and any team can beat you. There is far more parody now especially since the transfer window and extra Covid-19 year of eligibility redistributes talent across teams and across seasons. Give them their do WMU played well and if they shoot 58% behind the arch they can win in March as much as anyone. We have to win by playing harder stronger and more efficiently than the other team every night. We might have stolen this one but we still have the have a team that scored the last 11, played solid D in that final 4 minutes, and put up big points under pressure very quickly to steal it. The upside is this team can be scarey good if they put it together. I haven't seen all the bobcat games. But I don't believe too many in our conference had them or will have them by a point with 3 minutes to go. I don't care if it looks pretty or not, if this team fights for it a full 40 minutes and wins on hustle, determination and effort they can go further than any of our past teams were able to manage. There is a huge upside, they just have to go take it every minute every day. And we can't be surprised when there are others who are out there to take it from us, the conference is full of talent.

  10. Hopefully that's a wake up call and the experience they needed to learn the intensity required for all 40 minutes. Fingers crossed it's a springboard to bigger and better things

  11. Radio post-game comments: Ali Ali- knew he didn't have to rush; trusted his teammates and the spacing; play call was to go to him; Zips need to locate shooters on defense better, impose their will more. Groce- thanks to the fans, students were awesome; credit to WMU, guard combo is strong, just haven't been able to play together; WMU outplayed them for most of second half; WMU great shot making, some great shooting some from Zips D; took TO at 4:03 to get rest for same kids to finish; press worked well late; against OU Ali showed courage to try at the end but took bad shots but learned from the experience and had more composure here as a result; Tribble unreal on defense late and in talking up the team in late huddles; stole one tonight; poise and composure at end made the difference; Aziz has not scratched the surface in games that's he's been in practice.

  12. I actually feel a little bad for WMU. They played great & I don’t feel like we deserved that win at all. Not that I won’t take the W πŸ˜‚

  16. That's too bad. I really liked AJ. But I'd have to think that any players entering the TP now have either seen the writing on the wall or the coaches have had a heart-to-heart with them. None the less, he was one of my favorite players.

  22. LoyalZIP Transfer Portal Radarβ„’ Advisory: Garvin Clarke Watch: NONE Warning: Wynn This is what I'm feeling now. If Akron doesn't get anything from more than like 3-4 guys a night, March could be ugly especially if it's a cold shooting night like last Friday. Clarke has so much potential. He's a good ball handler and a good passer, sometimes the moment just seems too big for him. He's shown he can shoot well and finish but he's so hit-or-miss. It's strange. I still trust Trimble to take any open three or mid-ranger. I wasn't upset with him last night because he took good shots and made his first 3-ball. Groce managed his minutes well, with the quick turnaround too. Dawson was also much better, and he will be very important over the next few weeks with games just about every other day. Nobody can shoot a right-wing transition three as well as he does, he plays such hard D and can get runs started when there's seemingly no life. Ultimately, this is shaping up to be Ali and X's team. It seems that Groce trusts them the most and they tend to make the biggest plays and show the most leadership. Tribble has quickly risen to being a second tier leader, if you will. Groce was praising him quite a bit for his vocal leadership yesterday late in the second half before the run. He will never be a great 3-point shooter but if he can shoot a percentage around 30% kind of like Cheese did taking a couple open ones per game, I will take it. Would love to see him get back to the line like he was earlier though. He and Ali were on that championship team two years ago and played some meaningful minutes then. I want to see that leadership come out so this group can build up chemistry like that team had. Is it too late? Probably. But at this point, it's just a fight to get to Cleveland. No game against any of the top 8 will be easy. I just want to see a 40-minute game at both ends before anything.

  23. I’m late but isn’t this a UA message board lol are you guys fans or what it got pretty negative and dark in here have some faith in your team they found a way to win. That’s what helps in March, a team that never throws in the towel.

  24. Awhile back @Blue & Gold pointed out that Sekou Kalle is wasting a year of eligibility. At this point I have to agree. He's not seeing the court at all. I can imagine he is stuck behind a couple of young projects already in Freeman and Aziz, but why was he not redshirted? Does anyone have any insight into his situation and progress?

  25. There is going to he a committee formed to decide what our branding should look like. It will consist of a mixture of UA staff, long time season ticket holders and other marketing experts. Everything is on the table.

  26. Before that happened, Akron had an 18-3 offensive rebound advantage!

  27. This pic of one of our commits got me thinking.....what about starting a campaign within the community to pick the primary logo for UA's sports team. In this pic Coach JoMo has script, Dijon has Z, the other coach has the FTRoo 😠. Through the media, present some awesome logos, let the community create some too. If someone creates the winner, give them some $$. Create an event! Have a reveal on a specific date similar to what the WFT is doing on 2/2/22 WFT Reveal. Build excitement around our new coach, new team, new identity! You now have buy in from the community!

  28. AMAZING. INCREDIBLE. WHAT A DAY TO BE AN AKRON STUDENT. I don’t care what anyone says. This team has stolen some games. What a hysterical way to blow that lead. When this team wants to play they are MAC contenders. Lets get behind the boys Saturday!

  38. Largest collection of individuals with average talent. I see very little 'teamism' watching these guys. Seems as though Groce has a 'dud' on his hands this year. Glad Groce chose not to burn any red shirts although we probably could have used one of them. Agree with others that this particular team probably isn't going to do much in March. Who knows ... maybe we'll all be surprised!
