Oh hell, I'm just gonna say it, Give the ball to Lingard and good things happen. Why does it feel like the staff has to relearn this every game?!?! 😡5 points

The final score is misleading. That is a good team we just beat. Go Zips!!4 points

It'll cost me approximately $4. It's a chance to work on things for the team. I don't like these games but every team has them and it's a chance for a small school to play on a bigger stage (and Cedarville wasn't available). I think it is a positive in some regard as the Zips are on the other end with football where their top competition asks "why are we playing this team?"3 points

I vote Nate Johnson just keeps doing the things he did tonight. Most of the guys, as a matter of fact, should keep doing what they did. Turnovers could continue to be an issue, but we’ve got quality depth. Through 2 games, I think these guys still have a long way to go. But they are way ahead of schedule compared to this point last year.3 points

Marketing and social media has done a nice job with the team this year I think. We bash them a lot, so credit where it's due. No clips that look like they're screen grabbed from a RAZR last night2 points

Congrats to coach Groce on his 300th win. Admittedly up until this point, I've also more so associated his identity with Ohio (much like most would with KD and Akron), but the reality is he spent 4 years at OU, 5 years at Illinois, and is now in his 7th(!) year at Akron. Time sure does fly. We are lucky to have his coach and staff. Great representatives of the University whose teams conduct themselves the right way (and have been really fun to watch).2 points

Groce said on the post game he and Kamali elected to redshirt. He offered them limited minutes if they wanted them, but presented them the opportunity to redshirt. He left the decision to them, and they consulted Nate and made the decision.2 points

For some reason I thought Chris Payton Jr was a senior last season. I'm really irritated we have to see his stupid face for another season. At least Carry is gone.2 points

Yes, I am looking forward to watching this team play basketball. I thoroughly enjoyed watching their enormous road win over South Dakota State, their exciting win over USM, and I feel privileged to have the opportunity to watch them play again in just a few days. I’m not gonna whine and be bitter for no reason. Any other questions?2 points

Two games in and he's already doubled his 3-point count from last year!🤯 🤯😂 But seriously, wouldn't it be great if his defender had to respect his 3-point shot? That'd open a whole new world for Greg.2 points

Idk about you guys but after that zips win im pumped for 11 hours of MACtion today. Miami OH kicks it off at 11 but im most excited to see Toledo and ball state perform2 points

As much as that game will be a buzz kill, I think the staff planned something light between these two tough match ups and a trip to Cayman where they will play 3 tough teams in 3 days.2 points

USM was one helluva streaky team. #22 fouled out and that was game, set, match. Zips ran over them after that.2 points

Didn't know where to put this, but wanted to share discounted tickets for Akron vs St. B at RM Fieldhouse on 12/30. LINK: https://www.rocketmortgagefieldhouse.com/group/detail/fieldhouseplus CODE: RIZZO2 points

The JAR has the worst concessions experience out of infocision and Cub Cadet. If they can afford to open 5 different stands for a football game with maybe double the amount of people here tonight, they should at least be able to open a third window when the line is back to the doors in the lobby2 points

Took a small group with one newbie to the Southern Miss game last night. His very first comment after we survived the perilous climb up the rickety bleachers was, "This isn't a very nice arena." 😑1 point

After last night, the Zips are up to 80 in KenPom. Still nearly in the season obviously, but they’ve already climbed 24 spots this year. This is the highest they’ve been rated since the end of the 2019-2020 season.1 point

I was thinking the same thing, that I couldn't recall seeing Lyles and the box score confirmed my memory. He was in during a period of the SDSU game, and it was full of flaws. Not sure the speed is quite there, whether it's an athleticism issue, game speed issue, or both. I expect him and Prather to play 39 minutes vs. Heidelberg.1 point

Anyone have any idea what's up with Darrion Baker? I really think he could give us some productive big man minutes. Sammy's just not physical enough to defend true big men.1 point

That’s fine. I just wish Zips fans would have a little perspective is all. Every quality team in the country has a couple of teams like this on the schedule. It’s just how it works when trying to fill out a 13-game nonconference schedule. And there may be a time in a few years when we aren’t fortunate enough to be winning championships regularly and we beg to see the team win. Or we walk out of the JAR one Friday night not knowing we just watched the best Akron team we’ve ever seen play for the last time. Enjoy what we have while we have it. What I would give to watch the 19-20 team play Heidelberg right now…1 point

Not whining and not bitter. Just stating my opinion. I am a long time season ticket holder and have probably watched 50 of these games against division 2 or 3 teams especially under KD. My preference as a fan is to watch better competition than Heidelberg. If you disagree, so be it. With regard to scheduling, Groce is a great coach and obviously feels like this matchup helps the team. As stated in my post, I just don't know how a team progresses when the level of competition is far below what you will be facing the following week.1 point

Reed Green Coliseum at Southern Miss is a 1965, concrete, perfectly round arena. 5 wood chair back sections. About 70% of the seating is wood benches. Seating capacity is 8,000. Can you find the main scoreboard in the pictures?1 point

SOOOOOO glad Michael Beaven now seems to be covering the Zips. That indicates the ABJ is taking UA athletics much more seriously. Hope they never send GT back.1 point

A couple of my friends went to buy concessions & 10 minutes later came back to the seats empty handed complaining that there was nothing but beer on the 2nd floor & down in the lobby the lines were 25 ppl deep w/ ppl cutting in line to boot. pee poor job. What's up with that? It's like we realized 5 minutes before opening the JAR doors that, 'Oops, I guess we'll maybe need a concessions stand open tonight?'1 point

Wait, you’re telling me we decided against being the only good team in the country to not schedule a couple cupcakes?? Who is this Groce guy anyway. Weak schedules every year! Team never ready for March!1 point

Great matchup. Great game. Man, they were long and athletic. And threw some challenging defenses at Akron. Imagine the nonconference crowds we could get if more of the opponents were like that. Zips came out a little sluggish and didn’t look ready for what USM threw at them defensively. Again, a great test. I was concerned about the comeback there, but not as much as I usually am in those situations. A couple of the shots were rushed, but none of them were shots I’d be unhappy with any of those guys taking. It’s great to weather the storm like they did. And what a finish. Holy smokes. That was insane. Locked down on D and rebounded and great things happened. Had no doubt the Tribble 3 was going down. Go Zips! (trap game Tuesday?)1 point

the other day, fknbuflobo directed the group to read Gaucho Dan's Analysis on Big Soccer.com Gaucho Dan is the great Cal Santa Barbara fan...that created a real time RPI measurement page....that soccer fans from all colleges use.... Gaucho Dan has forgotten more about Soccer than I will ever know Gaucho Dan did a great post this morning....showing that the cut line....is currently at 36.....and he also shows the finals that could lower the cut line... he mentions Akron a few times in his post TennZip update to his post...only 1 game completed so far today...Yale won its Ivy league semifinal game. As I predicted on Monday, that helped Yale move up in RPI Yale moves up from 49 to 44.....This causes Akron to drop from 44 to 45 this would mean that Akron is the 6th team out of the mix....if there are no more upsets , Penn wins the Ivy League and if the committee strictly follows RPI Gaucho Dan post on big soccer.com Friday morning update Syracuse (rpi 28, 8-4-7) -- lost in ACC semifinals Oregon State (29, 7-5-5) -- will finish 2nd in Pac-12 Denver (rpi 30, 11-2-5) -- lost in Summit semifinals Pittsburgh (rpi 32, 6-6-4) -- lost in ACC 1st round San Diego (rpi 33, 10-4-3) -- host Gonzaga, tied for WCC lead UIC (rpi 34, 11-5-3) -- lost in MVC semifinals Kentucky (rpi 35, 7-7-4) -- lost in SBC semifinals Saint Louis (rpi 36, 7-4-5) -- lost in A10 1st quarterfinals James Madison (rpi 37, 8-4-5) -- lost in SBC quarterfinals California (rpi 38, 7-5-5) -- visit Stanford, will finish 3rd or 4th in Pac-12 Xavier (rpi 39, 9-3-5) -- meet Georgetown in BEC championship Penn State (rpi 42, 10-3-5) -- meet Indiana in B10 championship Akron (rpi 44, 9-2-7) -- lost in BEC quarterfinals Fordham (rpi 46, 6-4-7) -- lost in A10 quarterfinals Loyola Chicago (rpi 48, 8-2-5) -- lost in A10 quarterfinals Yale (49, 8-5-3) -- meet Harvard in Ivy semifinals For every team below the cut line, a team above the cut line must be dropped. So if you believe Akron, for instance, deserves to be in the NCAA Tournament, make a case for someone else NOT to make the Tournament. I think Saint Louis will probably get bypassed. Kentucky is probably in based on their October play and significant wins vs. SBC powers. UIC is really good, but they may not have the resume of the others. USD can win its way into the field, but that just pushes sure-thing Portland onto this list. Pitt could be snubbed...they played a tough schedule but performed poorly against it. Denver, OSU and Syracuse are in. Below the line, Cal, Xavier, Penn State and Yale still have opportunities to improve their fate and/or grab their conference's auto bid. James Madison has a strong conference resume but questionable out-of-conference defeats. Akron chose to play a weak non-conference schedule this season and it may cost them an at-large bid. Fordham and Loyola Chicago will not move up after losing in the A10 quarters. There are still 3 potential bid stealers out there, all in conference championship matches: A10: Dayton (69) at VCU (25) CAA: Monmouth (61) at Hofstra (9) OVC: UIW (165) at SIUE (41)1 point
