Brookhart brought a lot of good JUCO WR's to Akron during his first go-around. Deryn Bowser and Jeremy LaFrance come to mind. He also got David Harvey for 1 year (5-star Frosh. from Penn Hills with mad skills, and no desire to go to class). Worked with Antonio Bryant and Larry Fitzgerald at Pitt. Guy knows elite WR's.3 points

I'll never forget him hitting that 3 and skipping his way down the court like an idiot as they went to a commercial break. Kent was still losing at the time, he didn't score another point the rest of the game and only finished with 6.3 points

Can't wait for an upcoming The Athletic click bait: "JD Brookhart, who left Akron after a 3-9 season, and who's been out of coaching for 15 years, to be hired as Akron's next HC". Moorhead isn't going anywhere in 2024, but bloggers will tie his name to every available OC opening. And it works...I'm sure they are getting their precious clicks as people eagerly share their phony baloney speculation.2 points

It wasn't the last shot but: McNeese State being down 1 and missing both FTs. then the Corpus Christi guy making one of two to give them a 2 point lead and THEN the Corpus Christi guy, thinking they were up by 3, deliberately fouling McNeese guy and sending him to line for 2. The good FT shooter for McNeese makes one, misses the next, scramble for rebound and McNeese gets a hoop.2 points

Maybe Omega Upsilon Delta Sigma can win the Greek Night Philanthropy donation! @NWAkron and @csims0917 can rally the members.2 points

Brookhart gets an offer out to JUCO WR who looked like a man among boys at the JUCO level. We’re well behind the eight ball on this one though and probably no chance to land him unless an OV happens.2 points

They also offered some of us unwashed an opportunity to move down into the lower bowl tonight with the privileged folks. I turned it down when they said I couldn't sit behind NWAkron with my vuvuzela.1 point

FWIW, I went to the Zips official site today and tickets were listed as $15 for GA. On the Zips app, they're only $10 after fees.1 point

Generally, Ohio has either won by double figures, or lost close. While hurt and underperforming, guys like Jaylin Hunter and AJ Clayton can get hot and make things interesting. Freeman presents quite the mismatch for them so if he’s got to pass out of doubles tonight, the supporting cast needs to knock down some shots. If they can do that, this could be easy. I’d like to not see another slow start at the JAR tonight.1 point

At this point, I don't know if this possibility upsets me or gives me hope. On one hand, UA needs stability and the time to develop under Moorhead. On the other hand, Moorhead's 4-20 record is terrible. I'm just a fan - no college football experience, but I have yet to see any of Moorhead's supposed offensive mastery while at UA. I know this was a major rebuild, but the MAC is a landscape in which there usually is not a giant void between the successful programs and the bottom. A good coach can make a big difference in a short time. It seems that given the possibilities and peculiarities of MAC football, UA should be farther ahead than it is by year two. If he leaves, who is the next coach to lead the program? Is Brookhart promoted due to his experience? https://theathletic.com/5219845/2024/01/22/joe-moorhead-akron-nfl-offensive-coordinator/1 point

I think the writer is ignorant in that he doesn’t know Moorhead’s current situation. I’ve lost count how many writers have attached Moorhead’s job to OC vacancies already. This just seems like another example. If things don’t work out here, Moorhead will probably look to take an OC job somewhere. I suspect he’ll eventually angle to take another P5 head coaching gig if he can turn this thing around.1 point

Feels low considering the injury situation OU is dealing with according to @Rufus . Hope we are getting over this flu bug as a team and don't have a let down after the Can't game.1 point

He has an impressive offer list. Friday he has an ov with the Hurricanes. This one would be a steal.1 point

10-11 seed would place us ahead of multiple at-large teams. That's not going to happen. Realistically the best that we can expect is a 13 seed. The OOC schedule was solid, but we've lost to every quality opponent we faced. The bigger issue is the MAC is historically bad. The worst I've ever seen it. Using today's NET rankings, not a single MAC game that we have on our schedule would be classified as a Q1 or Q2 game. All 18 games would be Q3 & Q4. Historically speaking we're going to have a bad night and lose to one of these cupcakes. You have to go back 70+ years to find the last time a MAC team went undefeated during conference play.1 point

If anyone wants to watch an effed up ending to a basketball game, turn on espn+ and watch the last few minutes of McNeese State @ Texas AM Corpus Christi. I thought I had seen everything.1 point

With the announcement today he's now won 7 of 11 weeks. If only someone could figure out some sort of NIL tie-in here.1 point

Nothing to do with the MAC or CBB for this season per se, but in some of the least shocking news you'll ever see in your lifetime...1 point

At the beginning of practices for the 20-21 season it became obvious to those of us close to the program that Riq was going to take it to another level. When I posted here that he would be in the starting line up, more than a few of the regulars here scoffed. What made that starters spot possible is what still makes him the best player in the MAC, his relentless pursuit of excellence. He also benefitted from a great upbringing by his mom Tonya. He is just a great kid with a love for life.1 point

Now at 1526 for points and 1184 for rebounds. 51 behind Jimmal Ball and 61 behind LCJ for points for sixth place and 34 rebounds to move into 2nd place! all time. That's only about three more games for him. Amazing.1 point

One last note on this one: Pinky seems miserable. He never really got into it, and his body language didn’t exactly give off the most confident vibe. He sold his soul to the devil the last couple years and it’s showing. As great as Carry was, he never let Sendy coach him and Pinky was just along for the ride. Now, he’s miserable with the injuries on top of a flawed roster. In 2019, he had Jaylin Walker get in a bar fight and miss senior night, then still play him in the tournament the following week in which they were bounced by CMU in their first game. In 2020, they finished 6th. In 2021, Danny Pippen beat the s*** out of Justyn Hamilton at the end of the season, and they were blown out in their lone tournament game. In 2022, Carry, who called Pinky and asked to play at his girlfriend’s school, led an improbable run only to end in embarrassment with a 20-point loss to rival Akron in the championship game. In 2023, they finally break through and win the tournament, again with a best player that refused to be coached. This season, he re-tooled his roster the best he could. Then injuries mounted up and he needed to bank on Reggie Bass to come up big, only for him to sit the final 8-10 minutes of the game he was so horrible. Winningest coach in their history. Now 13-18 vs. Akron, including a 7-8 record vs. Groce since he arrived at Akron with 4 scholarship players.1 point

Groce would have gotten one himself late if the officiating crew wasn't aware of how terrible they were. The tall pretty boy who spent probably 2 hours on his hair, Luke Schumer, is a low tier Horizon League ref. Dreadful night for him, but he still gets the $2,500 game check plus expenses. Stupid game.1 point
