If Thornton wouldn’t have transferred, they probably have been 10-18/4-11 this season.4 points

During the pregame interview Groce confirmed Dawson's intention to return next year so he will not be honored tonight.2 points

4-2-3-1 Borneo #12 and Bartels #15 are as good as advertised in offensive MF. The pleasant surprise is Ydrach #8 at CB. This enables Buechte to play defensive MF instead of CB. Malik Henry was very sharp today at his usual RB. His goal was a thing of beauty.2 points

I have friends who have attended all of these schools and received quality educations. As a graduate of UA, I wish the education I received was substantially better but there's really little or no objective evidence to support this conclusion. Where there are areas where a school is better than the others, it is program specific (e.g. Akron and engineering) as opposed to across the board quality of education. These schools need not merge but need to look to areas of consolidation and cooperation where they can save money, such as supplies, human resources...2 points

What a progression of wrong information on this string. 1. This is an NIL deal. 2. UA has no active sales opportunity to sell merchandise that features one of their athletes with out signing an NIL deal with the student. All ZIP merchandise sales are though Barnes & Nobles who doesn't participate in NIL deals. 3. An athlete must consent for the university to use their likeness in social media posts and advertising. personally I don't know how this works. 4. An athlete can use their image even if it includes a UA logo. UA provided the jersey to the student. This is the essence of NIL. Enrique's "likeness" is a product of is his position as a UA athlete wearing a jersey. No one gives a SH_T about Enrique wearing a business suit. He doesn't own UA anything for this deal.2 points

I also believe everyone above LCJ played 4 years here while he played 3.2 points

LCJ was 70 pts away from being the 5th all time scorer in Akron history, and he was robbed of most likely 3 games in Cleveland and potentially 1-2 games in the Big Dance. That's criminal. Also pretty wild that in 7 years, Groce has produced 2 of the top 7 scorers in Akron history.2 points

At the moment I think I prefer him coming off the bench and leading the 2nd unit. I always felt the 5 you finish the game with is more meaningful than the 5 you start the game with.2 points

Probably lucky to be down only three. Hopefully, Northern (Coit) cools off in the second half.1 point

Does UMASS coming to the MAC mean we get an upgraded officiating pool? Frank Martin's $1.6M salary won't stand for MAC officiating.1 point

Prather is heating up offensively and getting more comfortable. He has one more week to get it going, and if he does, he and Nate Johnson would be like 2 big time trade deadline acquisitions for Cleveland.1 point

I’m not going to post every offer like I have the past two years, but will update occasionally. Here are two recent QB offers made by our new QB coach. Chris Denson (FL) HUDL FILM Charlie Johnston (AL) HUDL FILM1 point

KJ Walton what a guy. It was his 7th year in college basketball when he was at Akron. After a few games here, he just didn’t love playing basketball anymore1 point

Will somebody please tell Groce to stop recruiting from Northern Illinois. First, Trendon Hankerson and now Thornton. My apologies on Hankerson. He was a solid player for the Zips. I was thinking of another player that I believe transferred from Northern Illinois (maybe it was another school) that left the team in the middle of the season. He was a good guard that liked to drive to the basket and never shot a three ball. I cannot remember his name but turned out to be a fifth year transfer that just decided to quit.1 point
-
The Zips were spoiled by bringing in LCJ and X through the transfer portal. I think that skewed some of the expectations of their successors. At the end of the day, you brin in kids who can contribute to the team. Thornton has done that. In a mere 16.4 minutes a game he leads the team in assists and and is second in steals.1 point

I agree that Groce has recruited top notch student athletes and that should be his number one priority1 point

I've heard of the Barnes & Noble contract before and have heard some chatter that it really holds back Athletics from selling certain gear. Wonder when it expires and if they'd look for something different. Our gear has always been lacking compared to other schools. Honestly, Rally House has better stuff than anything you'd find on campus.1 point

In 2023, both MAC tournament championship game participants featured a player from a terrible 2022 Ball State team. All 3 top seeds in 2023 featured old MAC West transfers. This year, the clubhouse leader in the MAC after 15 games features an Old MAC West transfer who is top 10 in the MAC in assist and steal rate as a backup PG a season after leading the league in steals and assists as a starter. I wonder if Groce went after Kevin Miller and Payton Sparks, or even Jarron Coleman. Surely they would have been happy to come off the bench at Akron.1 point

The games haven't been made insufferably long enough. We need a two minute warning! https://awfulannouncing.com/college-football/two-minite-warning-rules-committee-proposal.html Someone explain to me exactly what problem this solves other than how TV networks can make fans attending games more miserable while selling more advertising time.1 point

I have a friend who works in higher ed transfers, formerly at Akron but now at one of those nine colleges. He said Akron is accepting those kids, but they never take the time to be proactive enough to get onto those press releases. That is an issue in its own right.1 point

https://signalakron.org/wonder-bread-building-university-akron-demolished/ I thought this was an interesting article. UA is demolishing the old Akron Baking/Wonder Bread building. It is also planning on demolishing other buildings and selling off ones that can be salvaged. The article specifically says UA is trying to sell Quaker Square (which is not unexpected). A preservationist is quoted in the article saying that preserving Quaker Square, the Central Hower Auditorium, and the Martin building are his priorities.1 point
