  1. Thank you to the 7 seniors.......that left everything out on the pitch today and all year. Malik Henry Dyson Clapier Emil Jaaskelainen Beto Ydrach Jonas Buechte Wan Kuzri Wan Kamal Victor Gaulmin They were ironmen all year......They were rarely subbed off the zips that were on the team for several years.....all improved very much during their time at the U. 2. It will be interesting to watch the transfers as the season unfolds. So far, it's been mixed results. Okonkwo looks more like a rotational big than a difference maker. Wilson has been really underwhelming and barely played today. Hardman looked the best he has so far today. Same with Gray. Harris looked like our best player in the first two games and hasn't played as well the last 2. It's very early and they need time, so I'm hoping to see them all continue to settle in as the season progresses and they get more. Rebounding/interior defense is going to be a problem against team with any kind of size, which I think may ultimately limit this team's ceiling, but hopefully I'm wrong.

  3. Ewbroo - I will be the third to say it was dirty. I don't know if the intent was to necessarily make contact with Mitch, but he certainly chose to dive. He had a bad touch that put the ball too far forward, and instead of conceding and jumping over the goalie at the top of the box, he chose to flop, and threw himself towards the ball. Mitch was already on it, and the IU player landed directly into his shoulder. If the refs had cajones, they would've told IU to cut the 💩 early with the flopping. Ended up hurting Akron - literally - and of course altered the game completely. The goal by IU was more of an inexperienced freshman mistake than anything, one that I don't think Mitch would've made. The ball was played over the top, the IU player corraled it pretty well which I think surprised Kaminsky a bit who was already 3/4 of the way to the ball. He became indecisive and tried to retreat but the lob was already played.

  4. Like or dislike the schedule, the other three teams in this tournament would all compete in the MAC. This three days have been good for the Zips' growth.

  5. Looked like either a broken collarbone or separated shoulder. Had control of a through ball and IU attacker launched into him. At best careless play, but dirty play in my opinion.

  6. I see this team improving already in 6 games.

  7. IU is dirty. Theyre frustrated and cheap.

  8. Hopefully, the Indiana community will be too upset at their football loss to pay much attention to this one. Indiana has a stronger history,a winning record against the Zips, the Zips have never won in Bloomington and none of that matters today.

  11. I’m pretty happy with our showing this weekend. Not only undefeated, but feels like we’re gelling. Excited for the rest of the season.

  12. Will follow their progress all season. I like that team and their staff. So different from the whiny b+%$tches in the MAC.

  15. Alabama State has some players. Every team this weekend has had guys that would easily compete for 1st/2nd Team All MAC. Great competition.

  16. The blessing of lack of injuries through the season caught up with the Zips today. They were remarkably fortunate to have very little missed time from injuries. Those starters are beat to hell and just ran out of gas, not to mention losing Budler. Kaminski battled in a tough spot.

  17. We need to win this in the run of play. PK's would not bode well for us.

  19. Indiana still does not have a shot on goal. I would be fine if the game finished that way. 😊

  20. Like seeing the early subs. I felt it cost the Zips in the Big East semi-final. Give some guys some rest.

  23. A win last night in basketball and the streak continues. Today is the big day. Zips need a win in Indiana in soccer and a win against Alabama State who also won their first 2 games. Will watch soccer and then head over to basketball. Hoping the Zips win in regulation so that I can hopefully see the tipoff in basketball. Great day to be a Zips fan. Go Zips!!!

  24. Alabama State beats Lamar tonight 77-75. At home, the Zips should beat ASU tomorrow. No excuses.

  25. Yes, the future looks promising and bright. Yes, this still looks like an elite MAC team. But let's not fool ourselves about who the Zips are playing. Understand, according to Kenpom, the best team in this tournament after the Zips is Alabama State, currently No. 229 Kenpom. Zips move up the ladder a bit after that with future games against No. 193 Northern Kentucky, No. 179 Milwaukee then a real tester vs. No. 84 Yale. Understand, best I can tell, the MAC overall has just one Top 100 victory, and that was by BG over George Mason ... and BG just lost to a team, Bellarmine, with a Kenpom rank below No. 300. All other MAC games vs. Top 100 teams, I believe, have all been 20-point losses. Akron, BTW is currently Kenpom ranked No. 150 with an offense ranked No. 115 and a defense ranked No. 240. All of this is not to rain on the parade ... just letting folks know what the weather is like.

  26. The Zips get 9 days off before the Norse of Northern Kentucky come to the JAR on December 3rd. The Norse currently stand at 1-4 but have games against Bellarmine and College of Charleston before they head to Akron. The Norse record is deceiving as their 3 of their 4 losses are to Purdue, Cincinnati and Florida State. The Norse were predicted to finish 3rd in the Horizon League in the pre-season poll. 6'7" graduate student guard Trey Robinson and 6'5" senior guard Sam Vinson were naked to the Horizon pre-season first team. This far, 6'4 grad student Josh Dilling leads the Norse in scoring at 12 ppg. Vinson is scoring 10 ppg while Robinson, who was the Horizon DPOY last year, scores * per game while leading the team in rebounding at 6.8 rpg.

  28. Before the broadcast ended, Amani was seen walking out on his own power in the boot to accept his tournament award. Good sign. Noticed this. Scary how well we played with only 9 guys, in this style/system, in the 3rd game in as many days. We just proved in November we have the ability to win in Cleveland in March. That's something we haven't seen since... 2019-20?

  33. Budler coming off holding his arm at a 90 to keep the pull off his shoulder. Oh man. Worst part is, the IU player seemed to attempt a flop that caused all this. Turd.

  34. This game was great with lots of offense and some great blocks and great passing. We really had problems on defense keeping guys in front of us and we were outmuscled in the block several times. We also had the problem of getting around screens. Kevin Johnson had some outstanding moves around the basket. Tavari finally found the 3 ball and had some great passes with 9 great assists. Okonkwo was good on the boards and made a couple of shots around the basket. I thought Grey had his best game making some tough shot muscling his way to the basket. Reminds me of Jamie Bosley, a smaller guy who just seem to be able to play big and get to the hoop. Lyles was good offensively but I wish we had a big guy who could clog up the middle. Hardman was 4 of 10 from three and had some wide open looks. Zips continually pass the ball well and seem to create openings on their offensive set. Harris, Wilson and Scott were really not big factors. I hope we can repeat this offense Sunday with better defense.

  35. With today's game against Omaha in the books, the Zips currently rank 23rd in the country in possessions per game. Every single one of their games has hit the over. The offense is on a torrid pace, and will only get more efficient as the chemistry & confidence builds. Groce maintained the barn that housed our Thoroughbred these last few years, but seems to have found a more full stable of horses this year.

  36. If Tavari is gonna set the record for blocked layups, Nate is in a similar track for missed dunks.

  37. I think these tournament help prepare us for the MAC tournament in march. This gave me the vibe of a Saturday semifinal game. our defense was terrible, but man did we shoot good, will be interesting to see if we can keep that up throughout the season and make improvement on the defensive side of the ball. I love Nate but can we have a honest discussion about how he needs to just dunk… not throw the house down! lol

  38. I was away most of the day so I was unable to watch most of the game. Looking at the boxscore I was quick to notice that we struggled to secure rebounds on the defensive end. Omaha had 11 offensive boards and we had 13 defensive rebounds. It's going to come back and bite us against better teams if we can't rebound better.

  41. With Bowling Green beating Ball State it put the Zips into a tie for eighth. Progress 😊 it also means the winner of Bowling Green-Miami will make the title game. Ohio will also make it with a win over Ball State. If they lose and Buffalo beats Kent (a virtual certainty), there will be a three-way tie between the loser of Bowling Green-Miami, Ohio and Buffalo. Since they did not all play each other, it will come down to records against common opponents and I am too lazy to figure that out right now.

  44. To ensure good attendance at both games I think they need to play the Zips game at 4pm, then at halftime play the first half of the second game. After halftime, finish game #1. Then finish game #2. For non-Akron games the UA cheerleaders and band need to split up and support the other teams evenly. Ater the games are over, hold a ceremony to hang a golden microphone for Steve French in the rafters. I’d stick around for that.

  45. Am I dreaming, please pinch me as it is a great week to be Zip fan. Tuesday we beat Kent in football, Thursday we won our first NCAA soccer game in 6 years by beating Princeton, and Friday we beat powerhouse Lamar in basketball. (And our corporate partner, the Browns also beat the Steelers on Thursday) Lets keep this party rolling with victories in basketball on Sat. and Sunday, a win in Indiana in soccer on Sunday, and a beat down of Toledo in football in Tuesday. Do you believe in Miracles? Lets run the table.
