I suspect it has something to do with a team's height in comparison to rebounds. A high jumping group of midgets who could box out would dominate this stat.2 points

The majority of signings across college football already happened on the first signing day. Only a handful of signees were announced by the MAC schools that did announce new additions. The majority of our additions from here will come from the portal and JUCO. A number of JUCOs will sign in May/June as they finish up their degrees.2 points

I dunno…I thought something was fishy when the Tennessee Chattanooga fans and Administrators were doing cartwheels through town the day Williams announced he was paying them money to take Arth (a whopping 9-13 in 2 years for the Mocs) off their hands.2 points

One of the world's most arrogant men is 2-22. They even lost to "Nowhere U."1 point

It is game day and I am expecting a half empty jar even though Akron has the longest winning streak in the country. I could sense Groce's frustration on the post game last Tuesday where he encouraged Zip fans to show up and support our team. Unfortunately, if you are listening to the post game you are already a Zip fan and Groce is preaching to the choir. For those that are going tonight, we may be few but lets be loud!!!!!! (and not just when Evan Wilson gets into the game)1 point

200 is the cut-off for Q3 on a neutral site. Technically, Q3 could be as low as 240 on the road. There are currently 4 teams over 300 NET in the MAC, with EMU flirting at 292. Last year, there were 2 over 300, but NIU (298) and WMU (292) flirted with 300+. It also needs pointed out that the MAC has a higher number of members than many mid major conferences, and that is working against us this year. For example, the WAC is ranked the 15th best conference according to Warren Nolan. They have 9 members and their highest ranked team is Grand Canyon at 93. They have 4 teams in the top 200, 2 over 300, and another at 282. They are very similar to the MAC without the extra boat anchors. My point is, the MAC may be ranked the 23rd in the country (according to Warren Nolan), but there are metrics that give legitimacy to our undefeated conference record and winning streak. This is a damn good team regardless of conference.1 point

I feel Arth created a lot of problems for himself as well. He decided to bring in his equally, perhaps even more, inexperienced cronies. You had the blind leading the blind. If you're going to bring in an inexperienced FBS coach, you should at least pair him with a long-time FBS coordinator. Perhaps a guy that had a coaching stint of his own and can at least offer guidance on what not to do.1 point

A sad result of a state, regional and national problem: our culture is producing fewer and fewer high school graduates willing and capable of pursuing difficult fields of study in engineering and science. This hasn't manifested itself yet on the campuses of "flagship" universities like Ohio State or nationally and globally recognized universities like Stanford or MIT; however, the problem is serious for our national economy. I am not a UA insider, but I suppose part of the problem is that UA simply has limited resources to promote this fine program nationally and globally.1 point

Will be very interesting to see how much the MAC shifts upward with UMass replacing NIU next year.1 point

While I feel George is a fine person who no doubts loves UA I have a huge concern regarding an ability to hire coaches. George and Williams made the hire of Arth. That should tell us a lot. When they were a few weeks from announcing their hire I asked him what are you looking for? He said they wanted someone who would energize the community and someone who would bring excitement to the program. I asked how about someone who had a track record of success and experience. He said their choice would have all that. We all know what we got.1 point

I’m surprised that our road win at Kent State (5-5 in the MAC) is now a Quad 2 win.1 point

I was thinking about this thread as I watched the success of the Zips basketball team. I'm really proud of their accomplishments in the face of a lot of institutional head winds. What would it say about career athletic directors if Akron can maintain a top level basketball team while at same time getting the football program turned around? I know Ohio U has a graduate degree in sports management. What if we are creating a group of "experts" in college athletics who are little more than mental midgets bankrupting every institution they touch? What if we could have a good mac athletic department with a professor heading up the department part time as long as the subordinates were competent? Just sort of thinking out loud.1 point

GVH would be a good choice. He already knows all the donors and the community. He would hit the ground running.0 points
