Believe it or not the over under is 47/5 or 48 depending.... Maybe the Zips offense will break out... Honestly, I hope that something positive can come out of the game for them to build on. If the Zips can go 2-2 the first four games then I would still consider that a success heading into conference play.3 points

Quick look showed that Bryan McCoy had 14 tackles (6 solo and 8 assisted) and 1 qbh Bryan is listed as a starter.... Nunnally had 1 tackle for Purdue ( he is now listed at 265, he was not that big as a Zip last year) CJ listed as second string LDE and Marcus Moore had zero stats.. Listed as fourth string nose tackle I don't know how many snaps they played to go along with the stats....2 points

The Missouri Valley Conference has a separate website for their football conference and the rest of their sports Missouri Valley Football Conference website Missouri Valley Conference main(?) website Missouri Valley Football Conference Illinois State Indiana State Murray State North Dakota North Dakota State Northern Iowa (UNI) South Dakota South Dakota State Southern Illinois Youngstown State That's a solid football conference which we wouldn't win right now. NDSU would name their score on us. Missouri Valley basketball schools: Belmont Bradley Drake Evansville UIC Illinois State Indiana State Murray State Northern Iowa (UNI) Southern Illinois Valparaiso For 30 years I've been absolutely dead set against dropping down but I've been kicked in the balls so often as a Zips football fan that I've broken and would absolutely give this move serious consideration... were it offered.2 points

Zips have transferred in quality CBs recently. Matt Paiva makes in three good ones in a row.1 point

Past the midway point of the first half, Zips employed a good old fashioned 4-4-2. This totally took Vikings by surprise. Remi and Farrell were the two Forwards and they immediately terrorized the CSU back line. Unfortunately, Farrell soon caught a silly yellow card, and staff removed him (and this formation). I want Zips to spring this 4-4-2 formation once again. It probably should never be our base system but it can be a real shock to the opposition. We should try it again.1 point

That would be nice. See how easy it is. There are ten other easy things they could do.1 point

Zips up to 11th in the coaches poll. Ohio State is not even receiving votes going into the big matchup on Friday. Looking ahead to next week, Vermont is currently 9th. https://unitedsoccercoaches.org/rankings/college-rankings/ncaa-di-men/1 point

One championship last year, since 1968, and OU is the premium football program in the MAC? 😳 And under the rules of division winners the prior year, they wouldn’t have even qualified for the title game last year.1 point

And by making that point, you exactly prove my point. This whole charade has to stop, and people need to start calling it out.1 point

Not all 1 bid conferences are the same. It's true the MVC typically gets 1 bid, but they are seeded better than the MAC. Below are the seeds by years. 2025 - Drake 10th (2 bids was likely had Drake lost in conference tournament) 2024 - Drake 12th 2023 - Drake 12th 2022 - Loyola Chicago 10th (Had path to at-large had they lost conference tournament) 2021 - Drake (at-large 11th), Loyola Chicago 8th As you can see in the last 5 years years the MVC had 1 at-large and their teams were seeded 8, 10, 10, 11, 12, 12. There is also a pathway for an at-large, but only if the top team from the regular season loses in the conference tournament. The MAC doesn't have that luxury. Also, your odds of winning a tournament game an 8-10 seed are far greater than as a 13 or 14, which is what the MAC typically gets seeded. Besides all of this, I'm not just an Akron Zips fan. I actually enjoy watching quality college basketball. Looking at our MAC schedule there are only a handful of games that I'm excited for. The majority are against cupcakes. Akron would be more battle tested come tournament time as they would be playing a higher level of competition. I understand joining the MVC is likely never going to happen. I'm more just sharing my thoughts out loud.1 point

About as dominate as a 1-0 game can be right? Would’ve loved another goal but it wasn’t like didn’t have a bunch of chances. Onto the next one1 point

Agreed, and that's where the MAC is getting it as wrong as the University of Akron. Emphasizing an overly expensive sport that in which they have no chance of success on a national level.1 point

Yup, and without looking at ESPN stats would have zero clue they've had any success over the past decade. Why? Because every major game they get blown out. Why? Because they can't compete with the big boys.1 point

The simple answer is schools like Akron aren't expected to compete. There are even schools in the P4 (Northwestern, Vanderbilt, half the ACC, etc. that aren't expected to compete. Programs like Akron exist because someone needs to be at the bottom of the food chain to prop others up. The P4 isn't going to go away because there is no way the NFL can replicate a farm league that would generate the revenue that the top ~30 FBS programs do. There have been how many spring leagues over the years that have failed? There is no market for minor league NFL. College football thrives off tradition and millions of people feeling connected to schools they didn't even attend.1 point

Good questions. If there are 85 current scholarships, reduce the total number of players to around 60, no scholarships. Reducing the administrative staff will be a savings as it will involve the deprofessionalizarion of college athletics. There are millions of dollars spent on administrative staff that can easily be reduced. The money is all there, just not in the hands of those who need it. Do they really need as many assistant coaches as they have? The bloat in college athletics is enormous. Cap head coaches salaries. The elimination of spring practice and summer jobs lend themselves to more time for a part time job. Spring practice is a joke so use that time in a less joke like manner. If a kid is so poor that he needs a full time job to earn a living, that's where the needs based financial support comes in. The one thing we all have to keep in mind is playing college athletics just because you were good at sports in high school isn't a right. In addition, just because someone earns a masters degree in Sports Management doesn't give them a right to a job where the taxpayers support their desires. There is no magic pool of money.1 point

That would be awesome. My question is, what would that framework be? What if the framework was this simple below the P4 level. 1. Eliminate scholarships for college athletes. We are the only country bankrupting universities with athletic departments. 2. Allow college athletes to earn a living. This is America. 3. Restrict transferring to one time. Eliminate the obnoxious. 4. Academic standards that require movement towards a degree. This is actually helpful to kids. 5. Better regionalized conferences. Better rivalries. 6. Needs based financial support for athletes who cannot otherwise afford college. Help those who need help. 7. Schools agree to not charge out of state tuition for varsity athletes. Stop the shell game.1 point

What could go wrong with the P4 deciding our fate? https://frontofficesports.com/charlie-baker-power-conferences-will-enforce-house-settlement-not-the-ncaa/ I've been saying it for years. Schools like Akron need to separate from the P4 and chart a better course for ourselves.1 point

Jordon Simmons left the Zips this summer for the greener pastures of Georgia State. Six RBs had rushing attempts in the Panthers 63-7 loss to Ole Miss. Jordon wasn't one of them. He did have 1 reception for -2 yards. Definitely would have been nice to have him splitting the load with Patrick last Thursday.0 points

The other QBs probably need to consider entering the portal because they are clearly D3 level guys if they can't play over Finley.0 points
