I really don't understand what you all are hoping for (those wanting JoeMo gone). Everyone in the country knows this is a s%#t job. Pay is not good, you won't be able to staff, no NIL, horrible attendance, school with debt and bad reputation, bad weather, empty stadium, no training table. But somehow you think we are going to do better than JoeMo.12 points

I didn't notice this before, but Akron is the highest rated team in the state of Ohio. Below is where the traditional contenders for that title are currently ranked. Ohio State - 63 Dayton -88 Xavier - 102 Cincinnati - 1546 points

I had to scroll to the top of the thread to make sure I had hadn't inadvertently fallen into the football forum. LOL.5 points

Serious question for all the Joe haters, if joe leaves what are your expectations? for the first three to four years you can't possibly expect to win more than two or three games a season and how much time are you going to give the new coach before you start calling for his removal? The issue with Zips football is not coaching it is not being able to compete financially with other institutions. Football players at akron get 91$ a month, big 10 football freshman players 35k a year. how do u compete with that? i watched a segment on lane kiffin. supposedly LSU is giving him a 25 million dollar war chest just for football. Kansas just got a huge donation from a hedge fund guy named booth for football and they named the stadium after him so now they have a huge war chest for football. the elevators at akron don't work in the dorms, don't work in the parking garages and they get 91$ a month. there are bigger issues than coaching. but honestly, how long do u give a new coach with a new staff and most likely a huge turnover of players because it wont be "his team" for four years of his players?3 points

Congratulations to Remi Agunbiade and Jack Roman for making the team of the week. The leader,,,,,the Captain....Daragh ...was honorable mention. (come on, top drawer soccer !!!....no shots on goal !!!!.....the whole Akron back 4 defensemen need to be recognized) https://www.topdrawersoccer.com/college-soccer-articles/mens-team-of-the-week:-dec-2_aid55426 F: Remi Agunbiade, Akron(m) - The Canadian sophomore saved the best performance of his career for when it mattered most, scoring both goals to defeat Duke and move on to the Elite Eight. M: Jack Roman, Akron(m) - Roman was a headache for Duke as he assisted one and played all 90 minutes in the 2-0 victory.3 points

We'll never know but it remains a bad look that the Zips were the only one. It was also time to stand up when it came down rather than essentially concede and push it back a year.2 points

Akron improves to #40 in NET. I imagine a lot of that was driven because of Iona moving from #168 yesterday to #138 today after their 23 point win over Delaware. BGSU improved dramatically and now sits at #63 after their upset against Kansas State.2 points

Thanks @TennZip for posting the Duke student newspaper article. Refreshing to read observations about the conditions and crowd and not just AI-generated information about stats.2 points

Kiffin looks out for Kiffin. Always looking for the bigger, better deal. Ole Miss was willing to match the 13 million a year salary, but what they couldnāt do is match the promised 25-30 million player payroll that LSU was offering. Kiffin felt, right or wrong that winning a couple of games in the playoffs was going to be the ceiling at Ole Miss. Because he wouldnāt have the depth to compete against Georgia, Alabama or Ohio State. Also, last year Ohio State won the Championship with a running back they poached from Ole Miss, Quinshon Judkins. That had to sting. All while Kiffin is trying to piece a team together with transfers. Bottomline, if you canāt win a Championship in Oxford, Miss (SEC), then college football is in a worse place than college basketball. And thatās saying something.2 points

Article from the Duke Student newspaper.... (I like the vivid description....of what the restless Akron fans were wearing š).....(ps...did anyone get a photo of Fknbuflobo in his pom-pom hat? š) https://www.dukechronicle.com/article/duke-mens-soccer-ncaa-tournament-akron-zips-ncaa-quarterfinal-john-kerr-acc-mac-ulfur-bjornsson-championship-20251201 āThey had a lot of great weapons,ā Duke head coach John Kerr said. āThey had determination. They were strong in the backfield and on our heels throughout the match.ā The restless Zips fans ā bundled in puffy coats and pom-pom hats to fend off the below-freezing temperatures ā leapt to their feet to celebrate the score. Thick snow gloves diluted their clapping, so they took to stomping on the metal bleachers to show support.2 points

It's a 4 year rolling average. I read up on it awhile ago and shared links to the website that lists all the APR scores when the news first broke. One of the years was laughably low and would make it near impossible to be compliant next season. I think that's the score that disappears at the end of next year.1 point

S/o Vandy!! They deserve to be in the playoffs. My wife's alma mater and our cities home team.1 point

Thought he showed potential, but it seemed clear he was on the staffās bad side for reasons I am sure were legitimate. Think heāll end up transferring down.1 point
-
I thought he was done, but maybe not. Either way it's time to let him go with no chance of return. We need players who want to be here.1 point
-
Iām pretty sure that was my takeaway when the news/numbers first came out. I believe they use some sort of rolling average and my thought at the time was we could get it up for next season, but weād need close to a miracle. Understand we have money concerns, but I agree with Clark the time to fight it would be been when it was first announced. One less practice a week is a big deal, especially when we might be looking at dealing with it for 3 years (last year, this year, and next year). Thatās a lot of lost development.1 point

They didn't qualify for a bowl because we were the only team in the country sanctioned due to a low multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) score.1 point

š We are no longer in the MAC? Since when? They kicked us out?š1 point

Absolutely. The 2025 tournament has a particularly high PK rate so far - looks like 20% of results (8/40) were decided by PKs. I counted only 5 last year (and only 4 in 2023) and one was the semi between Denver and Vermont. Let's hope that PKs have had their moment and will now hibernate for the rest of winter.1 point

@MangoZip hit on some of the possible reasons. Iām no longer involved in the recruiting scene, but if I had to guess, itās probably either grades or that most of those offers arenāt actually on the table anymore. He also may have had someone in his ear telling him to go somewhere he can play early and be developed. Honestly, thatās some of the best advice a high school recruit can get in todayās setup if they arenāt already in line to receive a decent NIL package. Regardless, he looks like a playmaker and could see the field with some refinement. I also suspect heās not really 185 lbs.1 point
-
Shout-out to VB for all the hard work and being in the thick of things down the stretch. Sounds like we have a good foundation going forward.1 point
-
Agree, he had to have very limited options when he committed to Akron. Those big offers likely came very early in the recruiting process and are non existent today. Many possible reasons - poor camp performance, high school film wasnāt as good as expected, grades, getting in trouble, coaching changes, etc., all possible reasons. Bottom line is that no kid is going to Akron if they had committable offers at Penn State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Miami, Georgia etc etc. It just doesnāt happen.1 point

Troy lost to West Georgia last night, dropping Kent's NET down to 165. Bowling Green is up to 63 in NET, putting them one spot behind Ohio State for the 2nd highest ranked school in Ohio.1 point
-
I have to believe that's the MO for a lot of sub 4- or 5-star HS seniors. P5 programs are loading up on established transfers and stealing seasoned guys from G5's, so 3-star incoming Fr.'s need to go to the minor leagues for a year or two if they want to see the field (rather than redshirt, or see spot duty). Then they can ditch us.1 point

Come on I was waiting for someone else to praise Bassitt. Another scoreless inning (has given up one hit in the postseason) with two strikeouts. Would have been the winning pitcher had Toronto been able to complete their comeback (runners on 2nd and 3rd with none out and score no runs is pretty rough) to be the pitcher that got the win in the clinching World series game. Darn it.1 point
