Week # 3 - Colgate Fights Cavities, and the Zips @ 6 pm Saturday

Recommended Posts

In 1817, the Baptist Education Society of the State of New York was founded by thirteen men (six clergymen and seven laymen). Two years later, in 1819, the state granted the school's charter, and the school opened a year later, in 1820.[13] The first classes were held in a building in the town of Hamilton. Three years later, in 1823, the Baptist Theological Seminary at New York City incorporated with the Baptist Education Society and subsequently changed its name to the Hamilton Literary & Theological Institution.[14] Among the trustees was William Colgate, founder of the Colgate Company.[14]

17 members of Colgate's football squad this year are from Ohio.

So there is the possibility that there will be more Raider fans in the stands to watch the big contest than

Zip fans!

Heard a rumor that the urinals from the Rubber Bowl will be inducted into the Zips hall of fame at halftime.

If that doesn't draw in a pot load of Zip fans, I don't know what it will take.

We should control this game. I haven’t seen Colgate play, but going off of stats and PFF grades, they’ve struggled to run the ball and their OL has been below average. They do seem to be solid defensively.

Our defensive front should dominate this game and I’m anxious to see if Lavea and Moore can build off their performances from last week. We’ve struggled to create any kind of consistent pass rush thus far (it has been there in spurts). If we can’t put pressure on a struggling Colgate offense, I’ll be worried. Although, I suspect we’ll finish with multiple sacks and double digit hurries.

I want to see our pass blocking take a major step forward as well. Pass protection from the OL and RBs has not been close to acceptable. I realize the competition level we’ve played has been strong, but there’s far more talent and athleticism at these two positions than when JoeMo arrived. It’s time for that to start showing.

Maybe a new wide-screen video board will draw a few. I hear work has begun on it. Haven't heard if it will be ready in 4 days.

Sounds like the pregame preview for the 2022 game against St. Francis.

Fortunately Colgate isn’t rolling out any Sebastian Benjamins or Donnell Browns.

I was able to find the Villanova/Colgate matchup on ESPN+. Almost all of Colgate’s offense is RPOs and reads. The QB runs more than anyone on offense and many of those runs are designed runs. The QB isn’t necessarily quick, but does scoot well when he gets up to his full speed. WR #9 has some burst to him. I’m sure Colgate will have some explosive plays, but they have had a difficult time finishing drives.

The defense doesn’t have anyone I would consider explosive, but they are well coached. LB #43 is an excellent tackler.

The punter is pretty good and may give us a challenge with field position. The kicker is 1 of 2 on the year with both FG attempts between 30-39 yards. He hasn't flashed a big leg on kickoffs, so we should have some return opportunities.

They could induct the stall doors if there were any.

Possibly losing to Colgate

Would a loss to Colgate be the end of Moorehead?  From a financial point of view, UA can't fire another coach under contract... or can it? KSU losing to St. Francis looks like the essential end of Kenni Burns'; KSU can't afford to fire him, but I think the writing is on the wall that he's not the guy.  Same fate for Moorehead? His winning % is hardly better than Ionello's 2-22.
