This on/off, players in/players out has to be a very tough environment in which to coach. It has to be difficult to get in any rhythm. The team should be settling into rotations and roles now but that has to be tough when you don't know who you're playing, who will be available or when and where you're playing.2 points

I think it's pretty obvious that stars matter. The predictive power of Stars vs No-Stars is obviously seen in some of the posts above of the top "stars" teams. However the individual categories of 5-Stars vs. 3-Stars probably have less predictive power overall. Players probably don't live up to their Star-Rating at similar % across all the categories, and lower the Star-categories the more likely they are to outperform their ranking (because 5-stars can only go "down" in perception, and 1-stars can only go "up" in perception). Wasn't Tra'von Chapman a 4-star recruit that transferred here? When WMU was the top of the MAC it had the highest Star rated recruiting classes for a couple of years, if memory serves me correct. Pulling in a few 3-star recruits more than most other MAC programs. It DEFINITELY matters.2 points

Noonan on Hallenberger… “Josh is a very active attacking winger and is a player who we have had on our radar for a long time. He was a highly sought-after player and someone we are excited to have contributed to our team.” YEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSS!!!!!!2 points

Max Banes, OL, 6-5, 310, University of Houston transfer with, I believe, 2 years of eligibility remaining. Coming out of HS he was ranked the #79 OT in the nation by ESPN.1 point

I dunno...no mention of this veteran staff having any experience at Ahola Solutions ... just marquee P5 football programs. Meh.1 point

Which way is the "IN" and "OUT"? The 3 star for example. Is it we had 2 go in the portal and 6 come out or is is we had 2 come in the door while 6 went out the door?1 point

I'm not normally a sucker for the BS "by the numbers" graphics that the media likes to fling around like food in a middle school cafeteria food fight, but DAMN are those impressive numbers. What. A. Hire. 6-0 in rivalry games. @seanlewis đź‘€1 point

It is just incredible to me how Joe is methodically filling our talent gap. He's just begun and there is joy returning to the faithful. I can't wait to see what the talent looks like when they report August 1. Joe's competence and professionalism serves to remind me that we should never accept crap when our eyes tell us otherwise. The debacle of the Arth years lasted one year too long in my mind. I hold no malice toward him and his staff. I wish them well, but they were not good for us in any way, shape or form. Williams deserves all the criticism for the hire and his cowardly exit before the season.1 point

I watched Shocky a lot over the past few years. He was a big recruit but never really seemed to improve in his tenure. He's still pretty good, has speed, a little size. I think he'll be good in the MAC, I think he'll thrive with slightly worse competition and being the top dog. He was behind some really good guys there (Addison won the Biletnikoff) so he never really was getting tons of targets.1 point

Josh H. started 4 games last year for the national champion Clemson Tigers He played 500 minutes...while playing in 14 games for the national champs. this is a very good addition for the zips. Welcome Josh !!!1 point

Have you ever wondered about other MAC teams use of the transfer portal? Well, fasten your seat belts Bunky. Here's the latest from 247sports. It may not be completely accurate because there is a lag in them posting new info, or 247 not being informed about every situation. The info below, however, is based on what 247 had posted as of 5 minutes ago. Enjoy.1 point

When I saw the offer the other day I checked out his hudl and I was impressed. I wonder if sitting out approximately half of the games for half the seasons as a result of blowouts affected interest. I also saw some Ivy league offers as well. Our last RB from St. X, Conor Hundley was pretty solid.1 point

We are a young team who didn't lose much to graduation and as far as we know so far, hasn't really lost a ton of players with the coaching change. We are ultimately looking at I think as little as 17 scholarships available and as much as 32 (with the new transfer portal rules) to get to the 85 limit. Not very helpful I'm sure, but It'll all depend on how many players actually end up staying - whether its by their choice or the new staff's. The roster for next year won't likely be finalized until fall camp as I'm sure spring ball will be telling for both the coaches and players in terms of talent and projected playing time and some additional spots will open up. The good news is, even if there happens to be a dozen or so players we don't know about no longer on the team next season, we still have the opportunity to be at 85 scholarship players. Thats something that was never done in the Arth era.1 point

6'1" CB. Offers from UNLV, Buffalo, Colorado State, and UMASS. 6'0" DB. Offers from Eastern Illinois (makes sense given the recent coaching hire from here), Grambling State (Hue Jackson), Nevada, Texas State, and NMSU. 6'4" 270-300 lbs OT out of Ben Davis HS in Indy. Big time offer list. Balls, Boston College, Cincy, Indiana, Kentucky, Purdue, Toledo, and WVU.1 point

You guys better watch out; you are going to bring the "stars don't matter" folks out of the wood work with all kinds of exceptions to the rule. An interesting survey, just to gauge the feeling of the zips nation room, would call for a simple yes/no answer to the question "in college football are stars and talent positively related?" My guess would be "yes" will win.1 point

The point of my comment is that the bar is being raised. It appears the players we are targeting and picking up are much higher rated than what we have been able to sign in the past - I view this as a positive. If you get one 3 star player every 3-4 years, the chances of them failing are pretty high, especially with bad coaching. A 5 star QB is not going to live up to his potential throwing to 1 star receivers and 1 star OCs. A 5 star QB is not going to live up to his potential behind a bunch of 1 star OL. I guarantee if you look at the recruiting ratings in college and the MAC there is a correlation to top recruiting ratings and championships.1 point

3* QB 6-0, 180, Reynoldsburg HS, Reynoldsburg, OH. Has an offer from Kentucky & a handful of MAC schools. Apparently he was 2nd Team D-1 All-Ohio.1 point

I'll say thank you. This is important. Again...we are dealing with a brand new virus that has been clearly linked to cardiovascular and nervous system issues that is infecting vast majorities of the population. I see people with mild to moderate symptoms joking about how they've lost sense of taste and smell. Guess what? That means the virus is in your brain. What does that mean down the road? We're a long way away from fully understanding the repercussions of this pandemic. Will everyone, at some point, be infected with some version of this virus? Probably. But resigning ourselves to that fate is a dangerous move. These conversations are necessary, even here. I find those that become defensive and turn to insults in these situations tend to be the ones that believe they know better than experts with years of education, experience and expertise. “Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'” ― Isaac Asimov1 point
