Unbelievable get. I hope Joe Mo's contract included funding for his statue. Something special is being built at Akron. Who is this mystery 4*?!3 points

That final experienced OL we want just may have entered the portal and is local. Kevin Toth out of Hudson spent last year at Rutgers and is now looking for a new home. Perhaps a little less experience than preferred as he'll be a Redshirt Freshman, but I think his talent + a year in the B1G would allow him to come in here and contribute right away. Joel Rodriguez (OL) and Blake Kucinski (Recruiting Assistant) are already following him on twitter, so the wheels will at least be kicked. This staff so far just seems to get it. https://247sports.com/Player/Kevin-Toth-Jr-46100137/2 points

We go as Trimble goes. The last good team we played was Kent...and we were run off the floor. Trimble was 1-9 from behind the arc (2-12 overall). If we omit the statistical anomaly of the 10-14 BG game, in his other 5 most-recent games he's a combined 5-39 from 3-point land. That's 13% over 5 games!? Even if you include that 10-14 performance against BG, he's still only 28% from three over 6 games. For the volume he shoots, that's a killer. Our rebounding suffers when balls are careening off the iron from 25 feet away. The Zips are good enough to eek out games against lower competition when Trimble is off. But if he hangs another 1-9 game against Toledo, we'll get smoked. Prediction: If Trimble hits 5+ 3's, we win. Anything less and the bus ride home ain't no fun.2 points

this is a tremendous article on DeAndre I wish the best for this thoughtful, mature young man https://www.espn.com/soccer/united-states-usa/story/4578970/why-deandre-yedlinusmnt-staris-happy-about-mls-return-after-seven-years-in-europe2 points

Kalle and Williams is not a comparison that’s ever came to my mind, but I hope you’re right! I’ve always seen him as a traditional 5. I would think Deng Riak more realistic.1 point

I would say Ali, Trimble or Castaneda could carry the team on any given night against most competition. Tonight we might need a couple of them to have good shooting performances with the regular support from Freeman, etc. I also agree with @1981 grad that Trimble needs to continue to be multi-faceted with his mid-range game. That's how he stays in the starting line-up while being streaky from deep. And @Blue & Gold and others have pointed out Trimble's liability at the defensive end. Trimble should be guarding the opponents wing. If he can't stay in front of his guy, please coach, bring in Dawson. I also need to see Clarke continue to grow. He is really picking up his defense nicely and has hit a couple of shots, but has yet to show that he can break down the defense off the dribble or pick and roll. I have him and Tavari Johnson penciled in at the PG spot next year with Castaneda splitting his time between the two guard spots. And Tribble backing up at the shooting guard spot. But Clarke is just not there yet. Plenty of basketball yet to play though. Come on Clarke, you got this. Finally, even though I have seen limited video of Sekou Sada Kalle, I have hopes he will become the next Xeyrius Williams. He is a big 6-10" forward who moves very well and is strong at the hoop. But even though his highlight videos show limited shooting from range, he has a nice release and can hit from the top of the key and beyond the arc. Hello, Stretch Four anybody. I would like to think he is progressing in practice and we might get to see him yet this year.1 point

I won't be as pessimistic as 1981, but I am realistic. The MAC is separating into 4 groups: 1. Toledo and Ohio 2. Akron, Buffalo, and Kent. 3. Ball State, Bowling Green, and Miami. 4. The directional schools. Difference between groups 1 and 2 is consistency. The Zips are consistently inconsistent which can be its own pattern I guess. But Toledo's talent and also being at home, the Zips are no match unless Toledo goes cold and the Zips get hot. My prediction is Toledo gets out to a good lead and nurses it for the rest of the game. I think it will be like the Ohio game without Ohio's late game brain freeze.1 point

As I read these posts, I agree with everybody. We need to play our best game and we are dependent on Trimble to shoot well from 3 when he has been terrible in 5 of his last 6 games. I liked his game against Western Michigan where he stopped shooting the 3 and was 5 of 6 from the field and driving to the hoop and taking short jumpers. However, he keeps going back to the 3 ball. Also, in the last game he could not get by the screens and he really hurt us on defense. If the Zips play with energy, rebound well and shoot better than 40%, I think this could be a competitive game. Otherwise, I believe we will see a double digit loss or maybe a loss by more than 20. My problem is if the Zips could not get up for the game against Kent only 20 minutes away, what makes me think they will get up for this game 2 hours away.1 point

Oof. Did not know that. Should have known you're on top of it! Based on your list, there are quite a few missing - P, DE, DL, DB.1 point

I agree. I researched Banes and he was very hyped up out of High School and didn’t pan out at Houston. Have to see what happens. All I know is the key to success is OL/DL.1 point

Thank you. I was so wrong. When I looked at 247, I saw he was committed to Akron and had no interest in the other schools. After seeing your correction, I drilled down and saw all of the offers like you posted. Now I am convinced we got 3 stud freshman offensive linemen. Thanks again for the update and correction. I am so looking forward to the late signing day. In Joe We Trust!!!1 point

AKA, early bettors are hammering the Zips, dropping the spread to Toledo -8, which I find very surprising.1 point

Certainly against Buffalo during their Top 20 year. Of course, in the last 5 games, Akron's been way off the spread (if that's the term for it)1 point

You've caught some flak for saying that, but I agree. It's rare a true freshman comes in & can immediately hang in the trenches.1 point

When the Zips women's team won the MAC tournament, they had players hitting 90+% from the FT line. I mentioned to someone that the women should be teaching the men's team on FT shooting. That someone then told me ... you know they play with a smaller basketball? A part of me died.1 point

I disagree, Dawson brings more with more energy & he should be rewarded bc of it. Trimble can still go 0-8 from the bench. The role of a coach isn't to be the good guy, it's to win! One good game paired with several abysmal ones doesn't warrant a spot in the starting lineup. Negative minutes = slow start.1 point

It's not gridiron. So, you can't expect much out of season from the SID or the ABJ. Loved the recent ABJ article about the draft where GT basically took the GoZips.com release, added a few words, perhaps a sentence, and slapped his name on it. 🙄0 points
