Well, Enrique is now a bit of a question mark.

He’ll be back. I don’t think he’ll like the feedback he’s gonna get. NBA nowadays is all about spacing and shooting. To me Rique is an undersized true back to the basket 5. I don’t see him being able to match up with the Jokers and Embiid’s of the world those guys are 7ft can play make and shoot it! I also don’t see him transitioning to a wing anytime soon. Said all that to say I think we’re safe.

I agree w/ everyone here. IMHO Enrique is the best post I've ever seen play for the Zips. I'm even putting him ahead of Jeremiah Wood - possibly my all-time favorite Zip. On my short list he's also ahead of Romeo Travis, Zeke Marshall, and Tree Treadwell.  Enrique will make good money playing professional ball... just not in the NBA.  He'd have an excellent shot at the NBA if he played in the 80's, but not nowadays. He's simply not big enough. In today's NBA, at Enrique's size, you've got to be able to stroke 3's from 10 feet behind the line.  Today's NBA players are just insanely talented.

Have to say I am a little suprised to see this commitment ( no disrespect). Assuming it may be a walk on scenario similar to Evan Wilson, not sure however. I have seen Zach play multiple times throughout the season. He Is a scrappy and energetic defender with some good 3 point shooting. He held his own defensively against Darryn Peterson this season (Peterson a 5 star class of 2025).

Good description of Zach's play. Very, very good high school baller but I was also surprised to see this as I'm not sure Zach's athleticism is at this level. Very similar to Evan. So I'm guessing this is also a walk-on opportunity. Both players could do well at a lower level but they want to test themselves against the best. I love it. At the worst Zach will be a fantastic practice player as he's intelligent, big-bodied, and always gives 100%. Someone you want on your team for the culture.

And you would have said the same thing about Freeman 5 years ago.   I am glad the young man chose Akron and hope he develops into a player that will play some meaningful minutes during his career.  The article indicates he is a bright guy with a great work ethic that would be an asset to any program.

To clarify, I did say that about Freeman!

I wish the kid the best of luck.

Zips Nation kicked some ass! Over $200k collectively for all of the programs.

Crazy to see Swimming and Diving, and Baseball out-pace Football donations? Thankfully Matt Kaulig stepped up with a 10k donation. I guess there are other avenues to donate, so Football is getting some money elsewhere?

Basketball only made it 1/2 way?

Kudos to the Soccer donors! And to everyone who donated...for a MAC Athletic Dept, $211,000 is nothing to sneeze at!

I gasped when I saw the Kaulig donation pop up. Really cool. I think yesterday showed how much support a lot of these more niche programs get. A lot of former athletes and former families hang on more than you may think. Specifically coach Peresie, he is a different kind of coach. Locked in with motivation and he gets a ton out of those swimmers. I would imagine he has to get a lot of his budget from donations, so that’s something he focuses on.

Football, on the other hand, doesn’t rely as much on donations as it does the Kaulig name (technically donations I guess), TV contract, Gate revenue (though small), and other revenue streams.

Basketball—Wentz Financial Group

All in all though, I don’t think UA has come close to hitting its goal the last few years. But it looks like the donors were energized this year for some reason. Awesome to see.

"Halligan enjoyed a standout senior basketball season at Walsh Jesuit and has committed to play at the University of Akron as a walk-on player who will have an academic scholarship."

Uh Oh, another Academic Scholarship Walk-on. The MAC is not ready!

The support of Giving Day has been remarkable and the totals are not yet complete. One thing that stands out to me is that the two programs that have built the strongest culture, men's soccer and women's swimming and diving, are the two that have done the best. You would think that football, with over 100 athletes in the program each year, would have had far more donors and donations than any other program. Obviously that is not the case. It makes me wonder how grateful they are to have been a student athlete at UA. In life it's not what you get, but what you give back.
