YIKES

I think it's probably a culmination of many things that is effecting these players emotionally. But as to the fouling, as bad as Toledo is they're not even the worst offender. If the MAC really, truly wanted to get control of the rediculous fouling issue (I'm all for strong, straight-up physical defense) they would foul guys out regardless of circumstance early into conference play each and every year. Even if it's the first half and a team's best player, it shouldn't matter. Send him to the bench early. The coaches and players will be forced to adjust their approach. But I think the MAC likes the bumping and hacking because it allows the bottom half of the league to stay in games with the top half. If these games were called even close to legitimately I believe Akron blows some teams out by 30-40 points and we have a much better NET ranking. The crap that really bothers me is when the officials in a sense "move the strike zone" mid-game. You play the first 30 minutes of the game with a loose whistle and then out of nowhere they call fouls for breathing on a guy. You can say that the Zips were soft and careless with the ball against the Buffalo press late in that game. Groce believed so. But I'm watching foul after foul by Buffalo not being called as well. We say at times that "the refs have lost control of a game". Watching this video I have to wonder if the refs are losing control of the league.

Edit: One can say "who cares" because we are still winning games. But remember that margin of victory affects NET rankings and NET rankings affect seeding in the NCAA Tournament. And I'm tired of getting crushed by the likes of Arizona in the first round.

Bobcat Attack's game thread today for Toledo barely has 2 posts on the second page. Apathy is setting in for the Athens crowd. They also can't stand Hadaway so for him to whine like this is hilarious.

Boals will likely not survive this season if he doesn't cut down the nets in Cleveland.

It seems like a foregone conclusion that Boals, barring a miracle, is canned at seasons end.

I peaked at UMass message board and it seems they want Frank canned as well. The problem is they can't fire him because his contract is fully guaranteed through 2028-2029 with a reported $6-$8M buyout. Between giving out that large of a guaranteed contract and the performance of the football team that AD needs fired.

Can anyone imagine being mediocre to bad at their job but having almost infinite security through a contract and a buyout/salary in the $6-8 million range?! What a dream life...I shoulda gone into coaching.

He should be thanking Jason Preston for their one fluke good season

I sit behind the opposing teams bench and Frank Martin was verbally abusive to his players.  Now these are division 1 athletes and not high school kids who can take the abuse but it made me wonder if this is the best coaching style and at some point in time do the players just tune him out.  Ironically, the only time I saw Frank smile was when he bursted out laughing while talking to one of the Akron fans after complaining about the refs .  The next game I asked the fan what he had said to Frank.  He told Frank that he agreed the refs suck but look at the bright side, he is being paid a million bucks to watch them work tonight and the Akron fans have to pay good money to watch this sh_t show of a reffing crew.

Yes he's a moron and a big part of Boals' difficulties this year. Bad locker room chemistry. I'd say it's 50/50 Boals gets canned this year. If not, he'll be forced to start over with an entirely new staff and roster. It ain't working.

I'm not sure if we're in a good place to judge. I didn't fact check it, but someone on the Miami board said we drew ~5k for the Kent game, but our next highest home attendance was ~2,500.

Is it our fault the MAC office didn’t want its top teams playing each the twice?

So we're getting 50% attendance for opponents who give 50% effort for building a solid basketball program. Math checks out.

Per Google, Miami's 5 year average prior to this year was 1500-2600 in a 10k arena. The sweaters should really be careful about throwing stones in a $281M glass house.

They still had over 6,400 people in attendance for a mostly meaningless game. Miami at home next Friday should be crazy.

Because what else is there to do in Athens? Going to the basketball game gives them an excuse to drink, and the state of the team is their excuse for drinking more.

I wonder if we get a vote or two today. A lot of teams 20-30 lost last week.

In a typical year without Miami doing what they are doing, we usually get a little consideration at this point. 15-1 in the conference is pretty damn good

Ignorant post. It was a beautiful, sunny day. Athens offers outstanding parks and other amenities. Lots of things to do.
