I also saw a couple of non Akron fan tweets suggesting that Bowden should have won coach of the year for getting a team who shouldn't be going to the conference championship there by winning a couple of huge games. This case could be stronger if the Zips pull off the win.3 points

I don't know if anyone mentioned this already or not because I haven't read every post, but we are winning games pretty much the opposite of the way we used to. We actually have a higher free throw percentage than our opponents, we seem to out-rebound our opponents and when some one has the hot hand, coach Groce actually lets them dominate. The change in philosophy is very refreshing!3 points

This is a fun team to watch. Movement off the ball, crashing the boards.. I'm not ready to say we're better than the typical Zips team at this point in the year, but the rumors of our demise have been greatly exaggerated. We're going to be just fine.3 points

And just the opposite for Treon Sibley of Coventry..... listed as a DB commit and received 1st team All-Ohio Division III as a WR Other Zips Commits who made All-Ohio: Division II: 1st team OL- RJ Kelly from Hoban Honorable mention - Vincent Fonte OL from Copley Division III: 2nd team RB - Devanier Floyd from East 3rd team DB - Daishawn Brimage from East2 points

For those traveling to Louisville, we are being joined by the goal scorer from that significant victory vs Louisville. Zips Men's Soccer and University of Akron Alumnus, Scott Caldwell, and his father plan to be in attendance Friday night.2 points

I realize we are shorthanded this season, but it's fun to see the team's best player(s) on the floor for 30+ minutes a night.2 points
-
Yep. I actually forgot that Star came against Louisville. Makes it that much sweeter. Let's stay a thorn in Lolla's side, and knock them out on Friday.2 points

I'm not saying KD held players back, but it seemed like there was never a breakout star during his era. Yeah, guys like Zeke we're fun to watch. But nobody was that 20+ consistent scoring threat. Hopefully Utomi can be that guy!2 points

Man if Utomi can keep developing on that inside game and banging like that, I'm not sure who in the MAC is going to slow him down, let alone stop him.2 points

Numbers are GOLD trimmed in blue and Akron is blue letters trimmed in GOLD. Finally after at least six years we have a uniform with both school colors!2 points

At the age of nine, Zakuani attracted interest from West Ham United's youth program. He later tried out for the youth team of Queens Park Rangers, and in 1997, he joined the Arsenal Academy. Zakuani became cocky and brash while not focusing on schoolwork and was released. His off-the-field issues culminated in serious injuries when he was involved in a crash while riding on a moped that one of his friends had stolen. Zakuani was unable to play for 18 months. After losing interest in soccer and renewing his efforts in school, his teacher and mentor Paul Goodison took him to watch motivational speaker and evangelist Myles Munroe. This inspired Zakuani to renew his commitment to becoming a professional player and, although unsuccessful, he tried out for the senior teams of Queens Park Rangers, Wigan Athletic, AZ Alkmaar, and Real Valladolid.[1]1 point

Brandon Council, who is a R-Fr has done a really nice job and Kyle Ritz, who probably leads the OL will be back. I think Richie Kallay and Hunter Corne also show some promise.1 point

You know, our defense is really young in that we'll return a lot of key starters on that side of the ball. The Zips' ability to win some games people discounted them is a direct result of this defense really holding up their end of the bargain. Sure, as fans we want to see 40+ points by a prolific offense because it's exciting but I would think going into next year the defense will be one of the better units in the MAC - '85 Bears!! Offensively, it really hurt us to lose Ball early and our running game wasn't nearly as dynamic as everyone expected it to be with him carrying the load but the other guys have stepped in admirably and effectively by committee. I think we've found some young guys to contribute on offense too and going into next year, I'm very excited about the makeup of this team. I really think they can make some serious noise next year if we get a few pieces figured out on offense and some of the young guys can step up. OL is probably the position groups where we lose the most starters without having seen some of the younger guys and what they can do. WR I would have said coming into the year would be a challenge for next year, but we've seen some young guys get playing time and play well with limited opportunities. I can't imagine any 2018 OL guys would be ready to play as true freshmen, but we did have some 2017 OL guys that looked impressive. Can it just be #ZipsGameDay already??1 point

"Akron is, no matter how you look at it, not a “great” football team. A win Saturday pushes the imagination to conjure up what exactly a great Akron team might be capable of." I like that observation.1 point

I always hit the Fourth Street Live area, a couple of city blocks blocked off from traffic, with about 6 great restaurants and another 10 great bars, and live music out the ying-yang. Jim Beam Urban Stillhouse has about 60 bourbons that you can try as flights, Guy Fieri has a great restaurant there...1 point

I did. Figured why not. Still not sure I see the value in $35 for a 1.5 hour "party" where alcohol isn't included....but oh well!1 point

5 hour drive to get to Louisville, and another 5-hour drive from Louisville to Detroit. Hopefully one awesome weekend trip for whoever can make both games.1 point

@LZIp - I called Monday and they said that they'd be emailing with info but I haven't received anything yet. The rep stated that they would have their allotment of tickets and then the seating assignments based on Z-Fund points by Thursday and would then have the tickets at InfoCision. I told them I would not be able to pick them up on campus as I live out of state and they told me that any tickets not picked up would be available at the Ford Field Will-Call on Saturday morning.1 point

I think it really is a shame that Penn State lost to the Suckeyes, by 1 point, in their stadium, in a near-miracle comeback.....and that is supposedly the NEGATIVE that's keeping Penn State out of the conversation? I think that should be a POSITIVE in their favor. But regardless, it does come down to Alabama. They've been the top team in the country for 3 months, and just lost ONE game, on the ROAD, to the team who the committee now feels is the 2nd best team in the country. No way in hell can anyone bend their mind far enough to justify them not claiming any of the available spots that might open up next Saturday. And it would be the ultimate hypocrisy if they allow the two-blowout-loser Suckeyes in under the same criteria that they used last year to eliminate Penn State.1 point

@UAZipster0305, your scenario would be great for getting some geographic sense back into conference affiliation that got destroyed by realignment.1 point

I really HATED the all black with the Z. And we always seemed to lose when we wore them. These gray ones are modern and have our colors. Thumbs up.1 point

100% agree. Every year there's some egregious omission...this year Kyron is the lucky recipient. Hope he uses the Toledo game to show the voters the error of their ways...1 point

I actually really like the gray uniforms. Probably because they actually have some gold on them. Now if only there was some gold on the navy and whites...maybe next year.1 point

Scotty Caldwell in the house!!!! Do. Not. miss this one. You will regret it if you do. Get your seats in Section 112. See you in Louisville. I believe that we will win! Go Zips!1 point

The term "Moc" is short for "Mockingbird." Mockingbirds are fiercely territorial creatures which protect their homes with courage, determination and skill. Those attributes reflect the intellect, spirit and character of UTC student-athletes and alumni. A Moc is a champion on the playing surface, in the classroom and, most importantly, in life. http://www.gomocs.com/sports/2015/4/22/GEN_2014010154.aspx1 point

March Madness is the largest moneymaker for the NCAA. The cinderella effect and office pool is what makes it what it is. They aren't going to change the format to exclude mid-majors anytime soon. The reason the MAC hasn't been getting at-large bids is because for the most part they haven't done enough to deserve one. The MAC's last at-large was 1999 and since then you could really only make an argument we "deserved" and at-large 1-2 of those times since. The MAC was getting at-large bids in the 80's and 90's because it had better teams at the top of the conference. Between 1988 and 1999, I'm counting 11 players drafted in the 1st or 2nd round. That breaks our to ~1 per year. Over the last 11 years (same time frame) the MAC has had a whopping 2 players drafted. If the MAC can get back to recruiting and developing talent like it did in the 80s and 90s, the at-large bids will follow.1 point

I'll make that designation with my next donation. Maybe I can make it enough so that the facility will forever be referred to as First Energy Stadium, Cub Cadet Field, and the Skip-Zip Audio System.1 point
